(Low bowing with arms outstretched) we’re not worthy! Sir I have learned more from you in your videos then I ever learned over at apple support - you are a magnificent Mac hacker and teacher and I come here to learn 1 things and find 6 more that I didn’t even know I needed to learn! What a great channel🎉

More than the iMovie steps I learned the art of presentation from this video. The pace, clarity, calm tone and articulation of the presenter are admirable. Kudos to the presenter.

Unfortunately, I don't appear to be smart enough to follow you directions. When I lay my circle mask made in Keynote on top of the video, it doesn't work. It is as if there is not mask. Maybe I turned the entire frame invisible in Keynote?

It can be a finicky procedure. Was your mask working in Keynote? Make sure you changed your slide background to "No Fill".

Michael, another fantastic hack using Keynote and iMovie. It would be impossible for me to count how many of your ideas I’ve used on my videos including using Keynote with iMovie you posted several years ago. I’m sure that this one will come in handy in the near future. As I finish up editing my latest one today I’m going to see if I can use this somewhere to add to the variety in the video so that I’m not just a talking head sitting at my desk. Thank you for all your videos and please keep them coming.

Hello Michael, Thank you again for the Q-Tip. I will now experiment to determine if this technique is effective with a variety of LiveStreaming applications. Initial applications include Zoom, eCamm, OBS, StreamYard, eWay, Presenter, and PP7.

Your iMovie tutorial is the best I've seen! You are very easy to understand and follow. And, the speed in which you make selections is easy to follow. Other tutorials I've watched required me to keep hitting the repeat button because the presenter was moving the pointer around too fast, and also speaking too fast. Awesome job!!!! I will now definitely check out your other videos!! Thank you, Michael!

I did the exact thing in less steps without the prerendering. Keynote: 1. Create a new project in the size of the video it should be in the end (usualy 16:9). 2. Create the green rectangle as you did, but 15pt bigger on each side, so that it overlaps the working area on each side. 3. Draw the white circle to the prefered size and position it, where the facevideo should ocur in the final video. 4. Than do the "Cutting" of the white circle (combining two forms to one single form) 5. Create a white "frame" to the rectangle as you prefer -> this will create a white frame around the cut of the circle, and the outer frame will not be visible, as it is outside of the working area. 6. Now drag the video of your face into your Keynote project, minimize it, so that it fits with the hight of the circle, and drag it over the circle. 7. Send the video to the back 8. You can adjust it a little bit, so that it fits perfect. 9. Export the whole video as a film out of keynote iMovie: 10. Open the project you want to include the face video into. 11. Drag the video you exported from Keynote into your project and place it over the actual clips you have in there. 12. Select the "Green-/Bluescreen" in the Pull down menue Done! So if you want to use that for further projects, save the keynote file and just change the face videos in the back of the green rectangle, and export it as a film. Than drag it into the iMovie project, do the green and ready. Thanks to Michael. While seeing your video, this solution above comes into my mind.

Lovin' these videos that show the power of the bundled software that comes with a new Mac. Keynote is a powerful application that has so many uses for graphics. There's a bug in the latest version though that on some Intel Macs that prevents videos embedded in slides for movie export being outputted properly. Soooo frustrating. Anyway, love these tutorials - superb.

Another awesome guide, can't wait to implement this. You da bomb Michael - Thanks again. Had a quick look, but do you (sure you will) have a guide in how to clip/cut/edit 3 clips (2 movie and a sound file) in one? Main video, pic in pic plus audio from another source. I want to merge them (tie together) so any edit like speed up, and clips/crops made are to all 3 in one go.

hey 😀it looks like it's as easy as clicking the 3 of them with command and then command B to clip.

Wow, you've answered the question that puzzled me. Thank you! I'm wondering how to add animation to the circular border, similar to the videos of Ali Abdaal. He uses rectangles with rounded corners instead of a circle, but the border moves and changes its color.

Michael, a question: I’ve recently been wondering and this video makes it more so at what point is it better to learn FCP? My videos are simple enough but say for this effect would FCP do it with fewer steps and/or as easily? I too have used more of your teaching of the keynote-imovie than I can count.
@MacVideoMagic
@MacVideoMagic Жыл бұрын
What I show is simpler, conceptually, than in FCP. Creating this effect is faster in FCP, but requires multiple layers and more advance FCP features (stencil alpha, compound clips).

Hi Mike, You are amazing as always. Have a Q: I recently watched one of your Keynote Live Video tutorials using Keynote slides and doing a LiveVideo picture in picture. Is it possible to simply insert the video project clip into Keynote and then for the picture in picture add the circular Live Video element? Would that not eliminate the pre- render step?
@MacVideoMagic
@MacVideoMagic 9 ай бұрын
You can't add the circular Live Video element to a clip. Live Video elements needs to play through a camera/capture card. I remember trying Live Video in Keynote. It was possible, but added more convoluted steps, and there was an challenge with audio.

It was all working just fine until I got to the part where I had to set the opacity on the circle shape to zero. Instead of ending up with a black circle, it made the green background and the circle transparent so that I ended up back where I started with my frame image. Any suggestions?

Although, I have to ask... I saw that Keynote has a "Movie" export. Couldn't you just insert the original movie in the Keynote slide, then just position it where you want it, and finally just export it as a Movie? Seems like it might be much simpler than this.. Lol.

iMovie already has the "picture-in-picture" feature, but it's a rectangle instead of a circle. wonder why they haven't simply added a "circular" picture-in-picture option??

It's disgusting that Apple doesn't include a simpler mechanism to do this natively in iMovie without Prerenders. I'm guessing it's to encourage users to conduct extra purchases in the Apple ecosystem. Too bad is this much work, but Michael, AMAZING job finding this solution.
