Whenever I need a jolt of inspiration to work on a painting watching one or two of your videos always does the trick. I have learned many techniques from you that I use in my work. I'm even using bigger brushes - something I never thought I would be able to do. I love them! Thank you, Michael (and thank goodness for KZbin!) I have learned much more from you than I did taking college painting classes - and not a word spoken! Like many artists I'm sure - I am a visual learner and KZbin is the best especially when artists of your caliber post wonderful videos like you do.

You take the viewer on an adventure watching you work through your composition development then adornment with jewel like finishing touches. Very pleasing to watch you work. Inspires me to go to my canvas and lay down marks. One commenter asked if you gave verbal instructions while you work. Observing what you are doing informs me about your process. I find it refreshing not to hear the litany some artists think they need to explain their process while working.

I have been a loose realistic type of acrylic painter for the past nine years and would like to branch out into both watercolor and abstract. I'm taking a watercolor class tuesdays, starting this week. I guess my main question about abstract is, what is the thought process as you start and go forward? do you start with colors and textures that interest you, and then build contrast and movement within the painting as you go? Then add a complimentary color to add interest? I'm such a practical, realistic kind of painter I don't know the process of abstract, but want to know. I didn't start painting till I was 49 and want to learn everything I can!

I was wondering what is the ratio of medium to paint for your washes? I didn't want to use water cause of what you said about water & medium . Hi Michael, I've been a long-time admirer of your work. It's inspired my own work as a painter. I have a question regarding colors: Do you only use straight colors "out of the jar" or do you ever mix colors? By viewing your videos, I'd say you use straight colors and if there is any mixing going on, it's on the canvas. Thanks for your time and for sharing your talent. ~ David
