Been introducing my 6 year old to the toy characters I liked when I was a kid. Thanks for this great channel. I loved Bravestar watching the episodes after school. Amazing to see your collection and descriptions with cartoon references is really refreshing and takes me down an awesome memory lane. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the 80s Toy Museum episodes. Keep up the great work and collection too 👍🏽

As a Native American, I have to say how great it was to have the main character of Bravestar actually look like me (black hair, brown eyes) when I was little. He-man and Duke were both blond haired, as were most lead characters in the early 80s. I always looked forward to watching Bravestar on Saturday morning. It was a big part of my childhood.

Wonderful to see a fellow BraveStarr fan. Even better to hear your wonderful summation of all that was good, right and decent about the character, the show and the excellent morals it imparted. The Marshall was a huge influence on my life as well... one that continues to this day... and I truly love the way you've captured it all, with the obvious love you have for it. Thanks for another great video!

Thanks! I've been rewatching some episodes and am really enjoying the traditional moral lessons of every episode. I think that cartoon more than any other of the 80's was about teaching kids valuable life lessons rather than selling toys, probably because the toy line was already cancelled by the time the show aired. Amazing what free reign can do for the direction of a show in the hands of a good man like Lou Scheimer.

Bravestar! Another lost toy memory that’s come back thanks to you! I loooooved that gun! When I was watching part 2 I started thinking about all the random toys I had that I wish I could find the name of and that gun was one of them. And there it is. I can’t believe it.

One of my favourites for sure. Not just because it was a sci-fi western, but because of the amazingly positive messages in each episode. I think it was Filmation's opus.

That Bravestar section brought back memories when I was 5 and didn't really have any solid memories. I had the laser backpack one. It had a reflective target or something. Can't remember how it worked. You saying that they were expensive reminded me of even as a kid I felt like this was something I wouldn't normally get. My dad must have come into a little money. I'm calling him to tell him I love him as soon as I post this. Thanks again, man. Truly. Thank you.

Great job on these videos Michael, the way you have presented everything is very entertaining. It's been awesome learning about all these toys I got as a kid, luckily I still have most of them, and yes the cape on my bravestarr thunderstick is degrading just like yours. My son and I watch one of these parts each night and he enjoys them too.

I would just like to start off by saying that watching your videos gives me chills down my spine & butterflies in my stomach. Remembering my G.I.Joe & Star Wars action figures & the space ships & the vehicles for the Joes. I only wish that my story had an ending that I like. Anyway, I saw Star Wars when I was 6 years old in 1977. I remember my mom & dad came home & had the original set of figures for me. except the death star commander & jawa. Anyways fast forward to 1986/87. By now I had the gi joes / figures that they had out to then. Plus the vamp , mobat , motorcycle & jump platform. Various other things also. Memory isn't as good as it was . I had the falcon (with the box) some other ships & accesories. I had almost all of the action figures too. 1 day when I got home from school my brother & his friends where in the backyard laughing at something so I went out there. I noticed he had his pellet gun , was firing exploding pellets, not much of a bang to people but to the Star Wars figures along the cinderblock wall it was enough to blow them apart. That was the day that I gave all the gi joes their vehicles & the star wars ships I had to my best friends nephew. I was never the same after that day. I've still got my gi joe comics. well that's my story. Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far. Have a great day/nite.

Interesting story behind that from Buzz Dixon, GI Joe writer. He says "Cobra-La" was just a place-holder and never meant to be the actual name they were going to go with. Just something that sounded like "Shangri-La." He learned that you should be careful what ideas you throw out there, because they just might get used!

Awesome collection! My gi joe world was the marvel arah comics.. even at 7 years old i found the cartoon silly! My dad was a officer in the army and he schooled me that war had bad consequenses and people die.. in the cartoon thousands of rounds fired and no death.. so I liked the semi-realistic comics better and there Cobra was somewhat compitent!

'Strength...of the Bear...the Bear....THE BEAR!!!' (I think they had that echo effect in there, or it might just be the memory playing tricks, yes?). Bravestarr's one of my favourites too - always wondered if it took place in the same universe as its fellow awesome Space Western 80s cartoon, Galaxy Rangers? If not, then it's a rootin'-tootin' crossover waiting to happen! (By the way, one interesting Bravestarr episode had the Marshal meet up with a revived Sherlock Holmes...I think that it was sort of a potential backdoor pilot on Filmation's behalf, but another animation company got there first a few years later with the excellent 'Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century', which I highly recommend to all toon and Holmes buffs!).

I had 30-30 as a child, but strangely, didn't have Brave Starr himself. I still find pieces of 30-30's accessories lying around in various toy boxes in the attic, but not the actual horse which makes me sad. I always mean to get back into the TV Show so I really need to track down the DVD as it was one hell of show that I do remember enjoying - although, I recall that I preferred Galaxy Rangers, just. Both are equally immense cartoons for the space western feels. Also, I have to admit, I missed out on whole G I Joe, but judging from the clips you posted and the huge toyline, it's a series I need to retrospectively catch up on for sure - especially I as am getting a strong sense of M.A.S.K similarity (which is another show I adored)!

Cobraisland, haven't been to that website in a long time. Didn't they use to have Transformer parts back in the day? I'm not a huge Joe collector, but I think that's why I had it bookmarked. I mailed away for Cobra Commander and the Star Wars Emperor too. The Cobra Sea Ray, I played with that thing so much in the yard and filling the bathtub to have water battles. It has so many broken parts and is held together with super glue and tape. My favorite Cobra toy.

7:28 And knowing is half the battle. 12:14 So the story goes that Filmation was developing their "Ghostbusters" cartoon (you know, those "other" Ghostbusters, loosely based off of that old Filmation TV show). They were working on the rogue gallery of bad guys ---- they had a skeleton, a female vampire, etc., then they drew up a new character --- a zombie Wild West outlaw, but they then decided that he looked "so awesome", he deserved to be the "big bad" of his own cartoon, instead of being a minion to Prime Evil, so Filmation came up (eventually) with the "BraveStarr" cartoon.

What you point out with Bravestar and Optimus (other video) depicts the most profound aspect of the toys of yesteryear. The cartoons, figures and general stories convey wholesome aspect of morals, people, other cultures and especially the responsibility of being a man. As a father of boys, all I see in today’s children shows is disempowerment of men, self-centered ideals and a concept that there isn’t good and bad just do what is good for you. If you want to know the direction of culture and ideals of a generation- look at the toys.

Looking forward for the next entry! Great VFX on this one. I was also a huge fan of BraveStarr growing up; I used to argue a lot with a friend at school who hated BraveStarr because he thought he was just a blatant ripoff of He-Man. I only got the BraveStarr action figure and a lunch box back in the day; as you well put it, these figures were pricier than MOTU likely becuase of their size and detail. It's so awesome you also managed to get animation cells from the show.
@MichaelMercy

Thanks! Bravestarr is certainly not a rip-off of He-Man. I think He-Man is more of a prototype for the masterpiece that was Bravestarr. I'd love to hear what both He-Man and Bravestarr would say to that kid. "Relax, kid...you can choose to not enjoy something without having to be disrespectful." :D

I have to ask. Do you recall a robot that was taken off shelves because there was a button that shot missiles, I believe from the knees and kids were getting hit in the eyes. Also, it was a pretty tall robot and you could open up the chest, arms, and legs and the was a smaller robot inside of it and in the next robot was another and it went to about 3 maybe 4 of them maybe even more I can’t remember but in the last robot was a little rubber guy with I think a hello shirt. Anyone have any info on that?
