AUGUST 2023 UPDATE: Verizon 5G Home Internet now starts at $35/month with a phone line, not $25. The pricing for internet service only has not changed. My updated review is here: michaelsaves.com/internet/verizon-home-internet-review/

I recently got Verizon home internet and am still in my first month of service, but I have a question. Looking at the paper that came with my device I saws if says Contract term: 1 month(s) and then under that Early Term. Fee: up to $650. What does this mean? I thought that Verizon home internet was without a contract or termination fees.
@MichaelSaves7 ай бұрын
@@Mikeymikesyeah Without seeing the paperwork, I can’t say for sure. But one month is not a contract. It just means if you cancel you won’t get a refund for the month you paid. Not sure about early termination fee language. I know you may be responsible for equipment if you don’t return it. Maybe something to ask support about.

I’ve had Verizon 5G home since Halloween and couldn’t be happier. I was skeptical, big time, that it would even work so I kept my Spectrum internet account alive but modem unplugged while testing Verizon. I cancelled Spectrum a day before billing and have never looked back. I work from home and the family streams 4K Netflix way too much, zero issues. I’m pulling a consistent 300+MB down and 20MB up. Ping is a little slower than Spectrum but nothing to be concerned about. $25/mo is a bargain.

@@sickofthebs93 Oh, that’s terrible, sorry you are having such a rough go with it. Been almost 60 days here and surprisingly my speed has gotten better. The side benefit to this is Spectrum is now wooing me back with some pretty aggressive pricing. Unless Verizon starts getting weird I’ve no intention of going back.

Thank you very much for this review and everyone that commented. You all convinced me and picked one up today and am very satisfied. I went from an atrocious 3mb with frontier to over 200mb with Verizon. For those wondering why only 3mb. We just moved to a 3 bedroom mobile home. Everything is great about the home and the area but this is the gotcha part. Frontier made a deal with the management to be the sole provider for this mobile home park. They haven't updated to fiber in this area yet, so they're running on ancient dsl phone lines and are charging residents 50 bucks for 3mb. And no, it can't be upgraded. Yet. I was like hell to the nah. We're gonna figure something out and came across this video. So far running on wifi are 2 rokus, 3 tablets, 4 phones and a laptop. I hooked up my pc directly using ethernet cable. All running just fine and still getting over 200mb.

This is great to hear! I'm with AT&T and our area of town only has Internet Basic 5 available (even though the new subdivision behind us has fiber, we're still on the old wires stuck at 5mps!) and it's been increasingly obnoxious to work from home the last couple years, gettin anything downloaded can take hours, and streaming during peak night hours is a hassle. Had a salesman for Verizon come by today and pitch the 5G Home Internet with better speeds for the exact same price I'm paying now. I was skeptical at first. Your comment (and others) and this video have definitely helped me out in deciding to make the switch!

I live in a small town and they just added the 5g towers here. We decided to switch to Verizon Home Internet because we were getting better speeds just using our phones as a hot spot rather than our internet provider. We got about 12 mbs download and about .4 mbs upload with the internet provider, and we were paying $66 dollars a month. This is by far much better because we now get between 200-300 mbs download and 15-20 mbs upload. It is crazy how big of a difference it is.

I just got Verizon 5G home internet for our place in San Francisco, which is blanketed by 5G ultra wideband. They sent me a different slimmer device than the cube you have. It's probably 1/3 the size of that cube, and comes with a wall/window mount bracket that allows it to swivel, and the phone app has a live map of the 5G antennas in the area to show me where to aim the device. My speed tests have spiked at over 700mbs down, but typically range anywhere from 400 to 550 Mbps down, and 200 to 350 Mbps up. It's definitely faster than the cable based internet options I've tried. Using the autopay and visible discount, I'm paying $45/mo. T-Mobile home internet isn't an option in SF yet, but so far I'm very happy with Verizon.

@@H.avery355 If you're only getting 11 Mbps on a 200 Mbps plan, call customer support. It's rare for you to get the full 200 Mbps when connected to Wi-Fi, but 11 is quite low. I'm not sure how many people are in your home, but that does impact speeds. If Xfinity doesn't see anything on their end causing such a slow speed, you may want to upgrade to a faster plan. Excellent video Michael. I picked up the Verizon 5G Home Internet device recently and the service is very impressive. I don't think the speeds are as fast as the Comcast service I have, but everything is connecting without a problem. If I decide to keep KZbin TV after the trial, it will cost $54.99 per month for three months, then jump to $64.99 per month. The cost with Verizon 5G Home Internet will be $115 per month before taxes and fees. My most recent Comcast bill is $136 and will be going up another $6 per month on my next bill due to increases in the TV box and remote fee, along with increases to the Broadcast TV and Regional Sports fees, bringing my total to $142 per month. If the Verizon and KZbin TV cost $120 with taxes and fees, I will still be saving $22 per month.

So, just wanted to add a few things to what's said in the video as a 5G Home user: Hope this helps someone if they're curious about the service. FYI I live in the Dallas area. I signed up with Verizon home internet before they had the two tiers split. And upon signing up I got the stream tv deck as a bonus Availability: According to Verizon it says service isn't available at my address, yet I have the service. So that's odd. What I did was look at Verizon coverage map to see if they had any 5G Ultra Wideband( the faster speeds) service near me, and went from there with getting the service. Speed: I have had the service for a little over a year and the speeds has been consistent. I live close to the UW Band node and get speeds around 800-1300Mbps download(or 1 gig) and 115-230mbps upload. Which is comparable to fiber speeds. This however won't be for everyone. The speeds do change at night from my experience but not by much. Pricing: When I signed up it was $80 per month before autopay. The price has not changed since, but I have brought my cell service over to Verizon recently to take part in the discount. So seems like the price might be cheaper to join now. Issues/Concerns: I've only had two issues so far, the first issue was service interruption which was due to the 5G node on the tower malfunctioning. Verizon was pretty quick to get that issue taken care but it did annoy me for a few days. The second being that the unit will sometimes (though rarely) disconnect. Mostly when it does updates I find. There is a third issue but I feel this is more targeted at my computer rather the service itself. Overall: I'll keep the service going since I don't have much issues. I like that I can cancel at anytime, and there's no equipment charge which is good.

Thank you for all of this. When you said speeds change at night - faster or slower? And what time at night?

No problem at all. Yes, so I've noticed that the speeds would slow down abit. So during the day I'll get 800-1300mbps, but at night it'll go to like 500-800mbps. As far as what time I'd say it varies but around 1am-3am

Just switched to Verizon from Xfinity this week and so far, so good. With Xfinity, we had to pay $25 more per month (from the basic service) for the Blast service to prevent slow downs. This is not necessary with Verizon. VZ advised with Xfinity, we share the internet with the community, whereas with Verizon, it's ours and ours alone (no sharing). Wish I switched years ago. Also, Xfinity offered no price reductions over the last three years, only increases, but is now offering the moon, since we left. Bye, Felicia.

When I was looking to replace my AT&T home internet (ADSL), Verizon only offered 4G service in my area. I signed up. A month or two afterwards they started offering 5G. The box didn't need to be changed, although I think I had to reboot after signing up. I have a Verizon cell line that wasn't 5G, but with the half off deal for the internet service, it was worth it for me to switch to 5G for my phone (which is 5G capable). I'm consistently getting close to 300 Mb/sec download and 30 Mb/sec upload using WIFI from my phone or computer to the Verizon gateway. I haven't tried hard wiring with Ethernet, but suspect it would be better. 5G direct from my phone is about 200 Mb/sec better. Still, I'm very happy with consistent 300 Mb, and with the service overall. And as you said, it could not be easier to set up. Since I always change my network name and password, I simply installed the new Verizon service, changed my net name and password to that of my old network, and everything connected like I hadn't made any change at all.

@@timmyd463229 It isn't that hard if you have common sense(I say in a non sarcastic way). It's better because one unit is focused on being the modem, and the other unit is focused on being the wireless access point. Much like an HOV lane on a highway, it's dedicated for getting people where they need to be. Just log into the Verizon Home internet gateway, and turn off the WiFi radios, then using an ethernet cable from the Verizon Home internet gateway to the router of your choice. I would recommend a $140 router and up because it has a better processor and normally a dual band router. I constantly get 300 MBPS down, and 10-20 MBPS up. I also get superior range and speed all around my home. Even outside. Of course there are certain factors that can impact speed and range. I have a 1,600 SQFT home that is long in a subeurban neighborhood. Make sure that your 2.4GHZ is on a channel with less people, the same for 5GHZ. Most routers actually have a scanner that will optimize this for you. Placing the router and modem in a high location can help range and speed.

I have an Apple Mac mini for my desktop. How do I hook up the Verizon 5G home Internet to it?
@xtamberine Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video! I finally have it in my area and the offers are 25 and $35 with a free Xbox or $200 Home Depot card. I have home phone and internet with Spectrum and work from home so I guess my biggest concern is if I’ll have any issues. How can I figure out where a cell tower is located? Sometimes I wonder if this would be good to have as a backup in case my spectrum goes out. $25 isn’t really too bad. I guess if I really end up liking it I can stay in Verizon for good and save money! Glad to read the comments, they’re helpful!

Okay Michael I feel dumb but I have to ask. I have my own modem and I use Xfinity wifi/50 mo but that will be going up in new year. Will I get rid of my modem and use the Verizon gateway? I am older and used to a modem you have to have near you computer. I guess what I am asking is I will not need my modem(I own it) anymore? Thanks in advance! Merry Christmas!

You’ll use the one that Verizon sends you and place it near a window or exterior-facing wall. Merry Christmas!

I noticed when it gets bussy in my neighborhood during the weekend my t mobile internet slows down drastically. Is that because of ppl using t mobile cells?
@JJFlores197 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Cell towers have a set amount of capacity. If a lot of people in your area are using the service at once, it will slow down for everyone. It also doesn't help that T-Mobile puts the home internet service at a lower priority than other services.

As long as you are under a solid 5G coverage area this will work great. If you are in a marginal area that is another story and your up and download speeds will be affected greatly. This is not only true for the Verizon service but any of the other carriers that are getting into wireless home internet service.
@n3rdoutmedia Жыл бұрын
That's why I'm on the fence. I don't get solid cell reception in my house but Verizon is saying that it's now available for my address. That said, I live in a growing area and expect more apartments and houses. Which could add to the tower congestion.

so if you do the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), then would the bill be $0 or $5 then? or does it liminate that price and takes the $30 off from that $50 or $70 cost?

Question how long are we required to keep internet service in order not to be penalized and need to pay back $200 door dash gift card cause I had to move and they don’t cover my new residence I’m trying to figure out which I’m better off doing keep paying for no service or cancel and pay the penalty but I don’t remember the time frame needed to not be charged back…thank you
@Bamaboompa Жыл бұрын
@@justjess986 Interesting that you ask that today. I don’t know the answer to your specific question about the card. I did redeem an offer for a $200 Echo box that requires I keep service for 6 months. But also I’m in the process of moving which requires storing my furniture for several months. The movers packed my Verizon box in one of about 100 boxes and put it on the truck before I could stop them. It is NOT as simple as calling Verizon and getting a replacement. I’ve learned that a “lost” box - ANY situation where you cannot return it- will cost you $200. Plus my old and new address are “maxed out” with subscribers. So even though it’s a net zero increase, they would not let me have a replacement. Right now my solution is to “suspend” my service $10 per month for up to 3 months (instead of paying the $200) & hopefully I can get my hands on the box by then. But no service. I can get TMobile service for $50 per month to try out so it will actually be $10 cheaper than Verizon. One other thing-you said it’s “not available” at your new address. I assume you mean no new subscribers. If you plug your box in at your new location you PROBABLY will have service. What they don’t know..,

this service is off the chart. I had tmobile prior and every day it froze. did you hear what I said everyday it froze sometimes for hours. I'm currently in kind of a dead rural area. Literally 2000 feet from my property, I can pull 600mbps with T-mobile phone, but only 1-5mbps at my place. Normal Visible plan gives me 70-120mbps. I'm going to try ordering Verizon in a different address near me and see if it works at my place. I do have the "almighty savior of rural internet" Starlink full residential service and its overpriced garbage. $110 for 1tb cap, speeds mostly under 20mbps and down to 5mbps during peak hours. Im looking for alternatives because Starlink is way too expensive for the crap service they offer.

I'm having a issue with Verizon 5G home internet and that is returning it back. It's cool if you're not going to be gaming. At least in my area it hasn't worked well for me. It's been 20 days since I canceled it, five different reps have told me they're going to send me back a return box. I haven't received that box yet. And they charge me $60 when they say they weren't going to charge me. And if I don't send the Wi-Fi router back in 30 days are going to charge me 200 bucks. So if you're planning on testing it just be aware that you might be pushed around to get that return box.

5G and 5ghz are two different things. 5G is the signal the gateway is receiving. 2.4ghz and 5ghz is what is being broadcasted on WiFi. The Verizon 5G router has 2.4ghz but only supports ten devices on that frequency. Workaround would be to use one of the ethernet ports and plug in a separate dedicated router just for the smart devices. This is an extra cost but more secure way to run your lights and cameras anyway.

do you know a way to get a verizon plan even if your area isn't available? I know the question sounds stupid but I have a neighbor that took their hotspot with them when they moved and they say it works well despite our area not being covered by verizon. I checked the website and asked the chat representative for help but neither of them would let me get a plan if my area wasn't listed as available, would I be able to get a plan if I went to a physical verizon store?

Had to say something about Verizon. I went to a Verizon store to talk about internet. I was told there is no such thing as 2.4 G. Also the ad on TV about Comcast new 10 G that is being started doesn't exist. I argued for about an hour with the representative. He told me there is only 5 G. He also said Mbps speeds have nothing to do with 5G. I couldn't believe it. And I still don't Makes no sense at all. Even my own router modem combo unit has settings for 2.4G, and 5G. My tablet doesn't have 5G. It only works with 2.4G. I know there is so much misinformation and lies from both Comcast and Verizon. I wonder if anybody or many people are told these lies all the time also?? There were more lies he told me, but I don't want to really get into it.
