Never had a pleco get stuck in cholla wood, but I quit using it because it gets messy. I like a little mulm in my tanks but the cholla wood seems like it rapidly turns into mulm to the point I need to vacuum some out. And by that point the cholla has started falling apart and pieces get stuck in the siphon hose. Id recommend that if you use Cholla, you choose some thicker pieces that aren't gonna break apart as easily.... Also you can get cholla wood without the holes if you dont get it from a pet store... Pet stores only stock cholla with holes cause thats what sells as decorations the best.

Plecos right? I don’t pull the eggs, so I’m not really sure. As far as feeding them, I always have Mulm in my tank to help with that. But they will graze on kelp wafers, bug pro or anything you will feed the parents. I really like French cut green beans.
@mattjames81294 жыл бұрын
Michael's Fish Room yes plecos...I had loads of plecos in my last rendition of my 55 community tank. Not unwanted but didn’t plan on it and it got out of control. I just redid the 55 Into a betta sorority and my female laid 2 clutches! Which I pulled both out. Back to back days. I’d much rather have them in a grow out tank (where they are now) then in the community tank at that large number...plus I’m pretty sure the bettas will eat them pretty quick. How soon would you say the French cut green beans come into play?...thanks again.

Hi Michael, Great Tips thank you. QUESTION... what is the name of the grey tablet's you feed to your Pleco's? I have just thought of something that could be used for Pleco breeding caves! Have you tried the "CORRIGATED PIPE" that are on vacuum cleaners or can buy the black corrigated pipe that is used on pond filter systems. It comes in various widths about £6 or less per 3ft! 6x6" caves out of 3ft corrigated pipe = £1 per cave! Dirt cheap! They don't rot in water because they are designed for pond filter systems. You can cut to whatever size you need. All the pooh just drops into the corrigation of the pipe out of the way of the fish! Easy to cut with a STANLEY KNIFE or CRAFT BLADE! You might have already used the corrigated pipe if you have had fish ponds in the past! Take care my friend 👍😊👍 Would be a breath little easy project for one of your videos!

Do not feed your Bristlenose wafers that have both veg matter and meat. Get wafers that are 100% veg. Bristlenose need a diet of 85% plant matter and 10-15% animal protein. If your using wafers that contain both, make sure it’s only 10-15% of the diet! Your Bristlenose will live longer and breed more often! Better yet, go on Amazon and order some Agar-agar and some powdered Spirulina. Mix in some babyfood peas too! Make gell food like Repashy that’s 100% veg matter that’s far more healthy for your beloved Bristlenose plecos! Tip of the year right here!😃

What do you think of using bamboo for caves? I have access to a ton of bamboo that I can cut to size leaving the knuckle on one end. Do you think that would be OK as a natural type cave? Thanks for your tips.
@MichaelsFishRoom5 жыл бұрын
Hiya Debbie. I have never used Bamboo, but It may be OK. Is the inside smooth? If it is jagged it could hurt the pleco.
@ZYGTropicals2 жыл бұрын
Bamboo is great for making breeding caves!!! If it’s large enough! I breed plecos and whiptails in bamboo among other things! It sinks quite easily and holds up well! And don’t allow mulm build up, it’s an absolute fact that disease develops in mulm. Keep the mulm at bay. Will it kill your fish, maybe not, is it worth taking the chance, no! Keep your tanks clean! It’s not hard, I have 48 tanks and keep them all clean!
