After vanishing into the recesses of KZbin's own version of Ghostwood forest comes the return of Audrey Horne's Character Breakdown!
Audrey is one of my favorite characters on the show and I'm overjoyed to put a new version of my discussion about her up on this channel.

Honestly, one of my favorite Audrey moments is in season 2, when she’s talking to Cooper and Denise walks in. The first thing Audrey says is “There are women agents?!”. Not something condescending, like you’d expect from someone of a rich and sterile background interacting with a transgender woman. And she sees Denise so much as a woman, that she literally kisses Cooper in front of her out of jealousy, meaning she saw her as a rival to her infatuation with Cooper. At least that was my interpretation. Compared to the others, Audrey seemed to have the most relaxed reaction to seeing Denise, (about her gender, obviously, not the kiss) and that’s pleasantly surprising to see, even today in 2019.

Fun fact, Lynch's Mulholland Drive was originally conceived as a series that would've focused on Audrey Horne moving to Hollywood to become an actress (and, in Lynchian fashion, become a surreal mystery). This was then scrapped and Audrey became Betty Elms/Diane Selwyn. The pilot was never picked up though so it was turned into a movie. While I love Mulholland Drive, I still would've loved to have seen it as a series it was intended to be.

Her story and ending makes me so, so sad. I think, despite everything, she had a good heart. Misguided, but good. It should’ve been her and her special agent in the end.

The relationship between Audrey and Agent Cooper was scrapped because he was dating the actress that played Donna and she was jealous of the connection between the much more attractive Audrey and Cooper. Plus the onscreen relationship would have over shadowed her character. Donna and James were the two most annoying characters on the show. Especially James. He was a soy-boy before we'd heard of such things. Just awful.

I'm still not OK with what happened to Audrey in the third season. They did a major disservice to the character.

it may not have worked as you imagine, but if there is a 4th season, the way the timeline reset for her so dramatically it looks like she will be doing more.

Yes unfortunately that’s what happens. She’s been through so much trauma in the physical world and then to have been violated by a demon has got to mess you up.

Better than that apparently fatal explosion that marked her final appearance in the original series finale. And I loved that song Eddie Vedder is performing as she's arriving at the Roadhouse. The lyrics seem to be relevant in some way to the plot of season 3.

i think audrey is mostly about rebelling against her father. it's clear her father has ruined their homelife, which is why she is rebellious -- irritating his workers and wrecking his business deals. i think the reason why audrey takes to liking cooper is because he's the opposite of her father. later, when she discovers that she might be able to get her father in trouble because he might be involved in laura's murder, she of course jumps at the opportunity, since it would also ingratiate her to coop.

What?! If Dale kept thing up with her it would be called statutory rape? No. Him putting an end to their flirtation and both moving on is a very true to life occurrence.

I enjoy this. Thank you. I found it strange that in the roadhouse, Charlie and Audrey seem to be the same height when they're walking. I got the sense that Charlie is actually Audrey's therapist or Dr. in the mental health facility.

Audrey Horne is my favourite Twin Peaks character, but shipping her with quirky, but wholesome Cooper I feel would be very uncomfortable given Laura's tragic and horrifying story. You do, yourself, describe Audrey as both childish and a child. So given our modern sensibilities. I think that we should just be happy that there was put an end to the romance between the two. In my eyes ,Audrey's end was by far the most shocking and ungratifying part of the whole show! I think that we should direct our disappointment towards that! Giving Audrey a couple years to get a proper foothold would have made for an epic storyline if she and Cooper met again in show revisiting Twin Peaks. But by ending Audrey, they effectively ended the show's lifespan lots of love from Denmark

i think it wasn't about fixing the age issue in total i heard the actor who played cooper was uncomfortable with the age difference romance. so they were fine doing it with a different actor just not him.

SWR 360 nope. Cooper and Audrey didn’t get together on the show because Lara Flynn Boyle / Donna was actually dating Kyle MacLachlan / Cooper and she didn’t like the Cooper - Audrey romance for a few ridiculous reasons: 1. The Cooper/Audrey storyline was more popular and overshadowed the Donna - James romance. 2. She protested to David Lynch that she didn’t feel comfortable with the Cooper/Audrey romance because SHE was dating Kyle and threw nasty fits on-set and became increasingly more vocal and SHE was the one that said Cooper couldn’t date Audrey because of the age difference. . . But then in the second season Cooper dates Annie who is seemingly similar in age to Audrey. So the short version of that is - blame the axing of Cooper & Audrey solely on friggin Donna. Man she’s a piece of work. 😓

Tulpa Trouble if you believe everything you hear sure. Boyle has been outspoken about the abuse she suffered as an actress. Actors and actresses are very often thrown under the bus or outright killed. It's called a smear campaign And you bought into it
