I think there's two master lessons to take away from this. The first is to be mindful of who you select for your participants, and to make sure your instructions are clear. The second is how to recover and be gracious when an honest mistake occurs on the spectator's part. I never cease to be amazed at Michael's card-handling OR his people-handling skills. Bravo, sir.

Great routine, I see how you improvised on the second trick as a result of the spectator not understanding the instructions.
@KinnereyB4 жыл бұрын
That trick is called out of sight out of mind by Dai Vernon. He didn’t improvise. Didn’t need to bc Vernon is a genius - everyone will have a card thought of after showing nine. That trick is a blast to perform. Spidey has a tutorial for it on KZbin (only he shows 6 cards instead of 9), it’s in quite a few books, as well as Michael Ammar’s Easy To Master Card Miracles (which is where I learned it) if you’re interested. Have fun!

This guy is always reinventing himself -- I've seen a lot of his videos, all of which are top-notch, but these are all new to me. It's nice to see her isn't resting on his laurels and rehashing old tricks (although in his case, that's not a bad thing) -- the magician's magician, to be sure.

I know. This guy is one of the best living slight of hand artists and he’s practically unknown. I think it’s just because he’s really old school and doesn’t understand how to market himself using modern standards.

@@snorgonofborkkad Or he just prefers smaller venues. There have been numerous of excellent sleight of hand artists over the years who have deliberately avoided doing shows for larger stages, either because their particular style might not translate as well or because they just prefer the more intimate setting.

Michael, do you ever get annoyed at audience members like this who don't follow instructions? I know you wouldn't show it during the performance, but it would really bug me if someone ruined my routine cos they didn't follow instructions. Good improvisation!

It does piss me off but I do hold myself accountable simply because I asked him to join me at the table. Plus it forces me to look at my communication and see if my language is clear. In many cases it is.

@@MichaelVincentMagic I get the sense that there was a little language barrier that caused a little confusion. I feel like the guy spoke reasonable English, but his English skills were not quite good enough to clearly understand every instruction. Certainly not a criticism of him. You managed it very well though. I also found their "matching" outfits rather intriguing. Was it purely coincidence that they wore the same colours?

Paul Brashier in fact he was perfect. After the show he told me he was so nervous. He taught me a valuable lesson. So he wasn’t wrong all, I fact our audience is there to teach us. It would be a great world if every spectator could handle cards like we do and nothing goes wrong. Life doesn’t work like that. The guy clearly doesn’t speak fluent English and isn’t accustomed to British social cues. It wasn’t his fault. It was the fault of the person that let him go up there. I hope Michael gave a piece of his mind to whoever put him in that position.
