@@facterrific not sure this is Michael Vincent we are talking about here. He is on a completely different level than 99.9% of slight of hand guys. He probably just practiced getting 10 consistantly and getting how ten feel then added more till he was solid.

I've just reached the end of the video and it's remarkable to me how you described being intimidated with "the complete works of Derek dingle"...I remember being 17 and just about to be turned 18 years of age and wanting that book so badly. I would spend time with magic friends and other magicians I looked up to. Every once and a while I would see a spectacular routine or move performed. Such as "roll over aces", "color changing ace's" and others...I would always ask "may I ask where you learned that and how can I find the information to learn it"...they would bring up the name "Derek Dingle" and show me the basic work on the routines....and wow, some real knuckle busting stuff. Especially at the time and considering it being my early introduction into my magic journey. Some of it seemed impossible. Shortly there I received the complete works as a gift for my 18th birthday from my mother. ;-) she always knew what to get me lol....and I remember being very intimidated by the book. As you were describing in this video. Everything seemed so unreachable or impossible. or at least impossible to bring to live performance levels. So I actually didn't pick up the book and really try to understand everything within. So I could begin performing these miracles I've heard about, seen some masters perform with ease, and get some of these great reactions and receptions. Ironically, I learned most of the material in the book but do not perform those routines presently. It was more or less a great way for me to understand his thinking and construction of his routines. To be able to apply that knowledge for my current routines. If i needed a problem solved. Much like you do with Marlos work....anyway, sorry for the long comment. I just felt a great connection with your path of feeling intimidated by a book and most everything you talked about in the video....I had a question for you. Did any of John scarnes publications have a roll in your journey?

I’d like to personally thank Michael Vincent for directing me to this video. While I have a few of these books, learning Michael’s insights has only redoubled my interest in learning everything I possibly can and putting all of that together into my presentation and my style. I left one comment and as busy as I know Mr. Vincent is he could have easily just gone on about his day. But instead he left me a huge piece of advice in a few words and then pointed me to this video when I asked what other books a serious student should be reading apart from Erdnase (which I have recently begun to re read). I love this video so much and I love this channel. I could listen to Mr. Vincent talk all day. I have only started studying Magic and after watching this video and becoming deeply inspired and motivated to become a better magician I went and bought every book that’s mentioned here. I started back at square one and went from there and what a blessing this has been for me. The Magic Book is so good. Imagine a beginner's book that teaches retention vanishes- 3 of them- Han Ping Chien. With just these and the finger palm, miracles are taught in this book. Still one of my favorite books of all time. Speaking of the best of all time, I think that Stars of Magic is possibly the best book ever written on magic. All the tricks are amazing. You are so well spoken, love your work. Please post some new videos.

Maestro Vincent: That is an efficient list! I have read some of those books and many more. Nonetheless, after some years of studying this art, I have come to the following conclusion: If one wants to learn and to master moves, shuffles, sleights, transformations, and color changes, the best way to do so is by following a visual approach. In order to fulfil this objective, I suggest getting these two remarkable DVD tutorials: Daryl's Enciclopedia of Card Sleights (eight volumes) and Ben Salinas' Hot Shot and Card Stunts. Once one manages to control all those techniques on those DVDs, which takes years of practice by the way, one will have sufficient tools to design and to execute a huge repertoire of tricks and illusions. On the other hand, when it comes to learning about the theorical and aesthetic elements behind card magic, books are and will be the path to take. There are two card magic theory books which in my opinion are essential: La Magia de Ascanio - Volume 1 (written in spanish) and Darwin Ortiz's Strong Magic. Perusing those masterpieces did help me to perform and to comprehend card magic scientifically and artistically. What do you think? I hope my opinion helps.

I think it all depends on how one learns. I enjoy the books. Reading and analyzing with a deck of cards in my hand. Seeing what works for me and what doesn't. DVDs are indeed good but for me it is the printed word. However...if professor Vincent would release a how to dvd i would be 1st in line.

Michael Vincent - Thank you for this video! I’ve written down every book as this list seems like a lifetime of magic in one spot! Speaking of one spot, could you tell me the names of the steals, palms, and color changes you did for Penn & Teller in your first act esp in the sequence from 4:30-4:52? It’s when you’re changing the heart into the diamond then changing the diamond and Spade more than once. If I knew what book or tutorial to check out for those moves, I have an idea that utilizes those moves. I have some other changes I’m doing in that phase of my routine but what you’re doing looks more clean and less cluttered. I’m utilizing selections and want to briefly flash a surprise but put it out of their mind. The theme of the effect is transposing cards, and I have the beginning and end down. It’s just that portion that leads up to the end that I’m having trouble finding the proper moves. In your act I can definitely follow what was going on, but the specifics on grip, finger positioning, etc are only going to be found in books, a good or a very good instructional DVD or download, bc you’re so good even slowed down to 1/4 speed you can’t see how you did it! I would REALLY appreciate it if you would be able to tell me where I can find those moves. Bc I especially get confused when you’re changing the Aces on the face. Those changes aren’t all in Erdnase are they bc I’ve looked. And unless I’m illiterate, there aren’t instructions for a change like those. Perhaps Expert Card Technique? A multiple change is mentioned in that book, I’m just not sure that’s what you were doing. And a bonus question - did you really ring in a cooler? Bc I think that was the same deck! Just a side thought lol. It’s just if you didn’t do a deck switch then you didn’t you fool them? Whether you did or didn’t, it’s a 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 routine!

Unfortunately for me I think this is the closest I'm going to get to these books for now I went to my local library today they work with 42 other libraries they said they searched the database and they said they really didn't have anything for me which I honestly could not believe. This lecture is great, of course I want the books but listening to a master of vibrational frequency with cards take on such books imo is as equally as educational!
