Freddie’s “call & response” with the audience is legendary. For Live Aid, because it wasn’t a “Queen” audience, Brian and Roger thought that Freddie shouldn’t do the usual call & response, they didn’t think Freddie would get the participation he usually got. Freddie insisted to include it, and of course, Freddie was right. It’s one of the highlights of Queen’s performance at Live Aid.
@katrinacash6393 Жыл бұрын
Their 1985 Live Aid 20 minute set is considered one of the best live performances in rock. Queen was not scheduled to play amongst all the other great bands and performers for this charity concert that was broadcast worldwide but were a surprise last minute entry. They completely stole the show and the other artists backstage knew it. I highly recommend adding it to your reaction list! According to Freddie when asked what his favorite thing to play was he answered “The audience, darling”.

This is a stellar performance of this song. It is a collaboration between David Bowie and Queen. In this performance, Freddie sings David Bowie's part and Roger (drums) is singing Freddie's part. Freddie has an album called Barcelona where he sings opera with the then #1 soprano in the world, Montserrat Caballe. Her voice is unbelievable and she and Freddie play of of each other so beautifully.

This was Queen’s final tour with Freddie.. the touring process was becoming a challenge for him. Funny you say he could sing opera.. he did; he wrote music for an album with Montserrat Caballe, a Spanish Opera star, and sang it with her- it’s amazing. All four members of Queen wrote #1 hits (they’re all in the songwriters hall of fame). They all played multiple instruments, including Freddie. Drummer, Roger Taylor has released many albums on his own, as has Brian May the lead guitarist. It’s a deep, deep rabbit hole.. but one you’ll never regret exploring!!

I was lucky enough to see Queen live twice. This is from the ‘81 tour, I was at the Toronto show. I’ve seen many, many concerts, even worked for largest concert promoter in Canada in the ‘80s so seeing the show was part of my job. Queen & The Who are without question the two greatest live bands ever and Queen takes top spot. Freddie was pure magic & owned the audience. The Who were also masters of holding an audience. Top musicians live (I’ve seen hundreds of shows from 1980 to present) - Queen, The Who, U2 (up to Zoo TV tour, they lost themselves in the fame & the magic died), David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, Cher, Celine Dion, Guns ‘n Roses, The Beach Boys, Rush (and I don’t even like Rush), The Guess Who, Gordon Lightfoot, The Pretenders, Iggy Pop, Eurythmics, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, Marc Anthony and Heart.

This was originally a duet released by Queen, featuring David Bowie. The 2 got together in recording studio at Mercury’s request. They couldn’t quite nail anything down so planned to start again the next day. Bowie came back with the music and lyrics written out. Each performed it as solos live and had it on separately released albums, but radio stations and MTV only played the duet. It’s incredible!
