If only Ofra Haza’s voice and overall presence was still present throughout the War on Terror and much of the conflicts that happened in her region and still going on today. Feel like she would’ve made things easier to get through with her singing and would’ve used the fame she had to bring peace and calmness. She would’ve been great in helping us throughout this pandemic and so many of complicated aspects of life today. Rest In Peace beautiful Haza, your voice still lives with us and in our hearts!🇺🇸❤️🇾🇪🇮🇱

Ofra is not arab she's an Israeli jew, the term means a bimbo. During the 70s when this song came out the term could've been used by some Ashkenazi jews (who have their roots in europe) against Mizrahi jews (that have roots in the middle east, like Ofra) as part of racial tension that was going on at the time but it could've been also used against any bimbo regardless of anything. Ofra played a character which was a so-called bimbo in the movie "Schlager" which was a musical and that song was her character's introduction to the audience. It has nothing to do with arabs and is not against arabs. The reason it was banned from airing is because the term itself was derogatory although the meaning of the lyrics are being said in irony.

Ofra was born in Israel. She identified herself as a Hebrew Israeli Jew.

Ofra Haza was not Arab! I am an Israeli Jew of Yemeni origin like her and I am not Arab either. With all due respect, Jews are not Arabs.

I heard Ofra giving an interview about this song and she explained that 'frecha' literally meant 'chick' in Hebrew and tried to downplay (probably ironically) that the common usage of the word was 'bimbo'. The lyrics were controversial because of the words ' ba li bayamim, ba li balaylot' meaning, 'I want it by days and I want it by nights.' The word 'it' in the Hebrew is more implicit in the translation because in its most basic translation the words just mean 'I want by days, I want by nights'. There is a story that Ofra when offered the song initially refused it because it didn't fit the 'good girl' image that she kept up until the age of 40 which was the age she got married and caught Aids from her husband (he denied it claiming she caught Aids from a blood transfusion and he caught it from her). Until her marriage she was affectionately or mockingly referred to as 'Israel's eternal virgin' and a documentary on Ofra's family claims that her sisters were exasperated with her decision to refuse to enter into relationships with men until Mr Right turned up. She was apparently too real a person to want to mess about in fake relationships that did not involve deep connection. Michal is wrong in stating that she was using this song to turn round the insult of her being a bimbo, because her lifestyle did not reflect that in any way and in a small country like Israel one does not easily get away with living a double life, so to assume that her reputation and lifestyle were in sync is not to be naïve. I wish Michal would research her subjects better before stating things as facts. Also, I wish that her Hebrew was better as this would allow her to give a better introduction to Ofra's songs. For instance in introducing 'Kaddish' she could have said that it had a distinct Yemenite flavour and pronunciation which is very different to the Ashkenazic and Sefardic Kaddish and even some of the words are different. Also the song was about Kaddish not a recitation of Kaddish per se. It is not a prayer for the dead as Michal stated, it is a prayer that G-d's grandeur become imminently apparent in the world, with the implicit underlying meaning that we should be able to discern His divine and ultimate plan and be able to come to terms and make peace with all the difficulties in this world and to find meaning and ultimate solace on such reflection. I do like that Michal is obviously a wacky and spiritual being with a musician's soul.

Afraa Hazaa Evona Yemeni art was the first to bring the Yemeni heritage to the world with her distinguished voice, but death took her while she was still young and despite her young age when she died, she excelled in art in many languages without affecting Ed.
