Glad you selected this one. Of course, everybody has his own preferences, and your list of French songs is pretty eclectic. There are tons of great songs, in different styles. The lyrics are pretty important in French and make a lot of difference between a nice or average pop song and a true masterwork in songwriting. You should check "La nuit je mens" by Alain Bashung, the ultimate 90's song. Or current artists like Benjamin Biolay. Great songs, lyrics, orchestration... So many styles in his range : check "Négatif", "Padam", "Miss Miss"... If you're in vintage/eighties : Mobilis in Mobile by L'affaire Luis Trio, one of his (late) mentors and friends. "Qui de nous deux" by M (2003) could surprise you too...
@joffreypub1493 жыл бұрын
Ho yes he will probably love "M". It's funny because there is lot of songs that I don't like but thanks to Dereck I appreciate the quality and specificity of these songs and make me pround of our culture.

@ Le Basque et l'enclume Bonjour, Much of good suggestions here. thanks. I also wanted to speak about - M - (Aka Matthieu Chedid) with in more of "Qui de nous deux" he could react too on "Superchérie" (play of words between "super chérie" (super darling) and "supercherie" (deception, trickery), "Machistador" (concentration of words "macho", "conquistador", "matador" and of course also "adore" in only one word). But also "Mama Sam". But this last one in live is really very nice compared to what happens with the public, the sharing (available on " 100% Chanson Française" YT channel). For Bashung, I proposed him "La nuit je mens" longtime ago, but well ... I think "Ma petite entreprise" (with its very funny double way of lyrics) would be a good one for him musically. I propose an English translation, and just below translation, the explanations about the true meaning of the lyrics hidden under the first reading of the text on "Lyrics Translate": lyricstranslate.com/en/ma-petite-entreprise-my-small-company.html You have good tastes friend. :)

Le meilleur live video de Bashung, c'est Les Mots Bleus aux Musicales, guys. Let's not kid ourselves.

Masterpiece! Possibly Polnareff's most famous song, written as a love song to France while he was in exile (he was first in NYC, then moved to California; he changed the lyrics from "You're 6 hours away from me" to "9 hours" after he moved to California, in reference to the time difference). Absolutely gorgeous, masterful, haunting and beautiful. While it was written from the perspective of someone exiled away from France, it almost held a mirror to the often-conflicted emotions French people have about their country (a bit of a love-hate relationship at times). It calls to you, whether you are a French person in France or exiled in the US. The majestic music simply won't allow you to be indifferent. Love it or hate it, everyone has an opinion about this song. Thanks for the great reaction!
