FURTHER NOTES! Read through these comments and you'll definitely find the occasional rider who hates these Michelins. Why? I've been trying to find out. This is an FIM approved knobby, which means the knobs aren't as high. It has a very light flexible carcass. All this is great for hard enduro, maybe it's not so good for faster riding and/or high air pressures. My best guess? If you do a lot of faster riding with wheelspin, you'll probably want a non-FIM knobby with taller knobs. If you love technical terrain and running low air pressures, you'll probably love this Michelin... if you can get it at a reasonable price! Read the comments and see what you think.

Hey what's your thoughts on mix and matching tire brands? I am loving my shinko 705's front and rear but I want a more aggressive rear tire I am thinking keeping the 705 in front and put a 805 dakar TL on the back (890 adv) but there are a few brands I'd like to try out. I'm doing a second rear rim for context.

I've mixed tyres quite often. I particularly like having a slightly more dirt-oriented tyre up front as I'd prefer the rear to slide around than the front off-road.

I was surprised by this review. They came on my Sherco 21 300 sef. Maybe it is the rocky terrain I ride but these were the worst tires ever. They sit in my garage still looking brand new. Ve33 or m5b on the back and m59 or gt216 in the front for me. I hear they are good on electric bikes because they are lightweight.

Both my husqvarna enduro bikes came with these. Initially I looked at them and expected to take them off asap. One ride changed that opinion. They don't love wet conditions is my only gripe. I swapped the rear to a Pirelli scorpion xc mid soft which was clearly better in wet conditions, but maybe not so great on pumice/ rocks and roots. I then moved to mitas c18 yellow for dry conditions and xt754 for softer conditions. They have vastly superior traction in soft conditions, and they throw the worst roost my riding mates have ever experienced apparently. Great tires for my conditions. Tubliss front and rear, about 6psi on rear generally.

The rear helped me crawl up an extreme hill with ease today. The front not great on hard pack but my px was high and I feel they would be magic paired with mousses. Love their light weight compared to starcross 6. Racing, ill buy the rear, trail riding starcross 6 med hard front n rear.

Enduro medium (+ Mich bib) 90/100-21 front, starcross 5 soft terrain rear 100/100-18 inner tube (enduro medium 120 wouldn't fit w/ moose bib, didn't try with tube but will after starcross wears out). I've only ridden with the new tires once (see video), but they felt so good on sand, dirt and roots. No longer do I feel sketchy on the front tire in sand, but its planted and will make its own path instead.

It its the most used tire in my enduro club. Trial consists of rocks and water, slow speed. This is in Norway, and a rear 140/80-18 costs 180 aud (on sale)

Just installed second tire driving everything mixed from road to sand and between i must say that these are the best i have tried running with pretty low pressure on offroad and they do grip faster riding also.

Michy's are good but you're right on the price. I've always loved the Mitas "EF-07 MAJESTIC ENDURO" single green stripe for the rear. Even the Orange is good (Medium). They used to ~$140 but now a bit pricier. Still a great FIM gummy hard enduro tyre. Cheers

I find my 200 / 55 Michelin race slicks at 2 psi and 80 deg C superb on sandstone escarpments.

Michelin Enduro Medium is a great tire, but as you say, very expensive, even here in Europe - they go for almost 100€. If you are doing hard enduro but not climbing trees and extreme slippery stuff at a pro level, it works very well with a soft mousse like a Nitromousse, Mitas or X-GRIP. I have gone through many Mediums, and they lasted me an average of 60 hours, with tread still to ride. If you really want to know what traction is and need a FIM tire, the Michelin XTREM is surreal. It's so sticky if you lift your bike after having it on the side stand you can hear the rubber gripping the ground. I know it's not cheap and doesn't last very long, but for extreme races that would be my tire of choice, if I had the budget. Pair it with a soft mousse for the best results. Another cheap alternative is the Shinko 216. I currently have the MX version in 140, and the Medium beats it by a mile. Good for general enduro riding, but in technical and slippery terrain its a nightmare. The SX version on the otherhand is fantastic, very cheap, great traction, even with flat knobs. Just my 2 cents

Yep, the FIM style knobbies work great in a lot of conditions but not as good in soft mud, sand or loamy soil it seems. Taller knobs will be better.

recently put one on the rear for the Kozi Killer a while back. Blew me away for the grip and stability it provided compared to the previous 2 tires i tried. I luckily picked mine up where you guys got your bikes at for half price. Somebody bought a New bike but didn't want the FIM tires on the new bike!

@Cross Training Enduro im running tubeliss on the ktm. Usually around 3-6 psi. Even at low pressure it was surprisingly good on the local trail ride with high speed corners.

Try the Bridgestone E50 Extreme. Cost alot and can be tough to find but gets AWESOME traction!

I have a 22 sherco 300…love the bike! the stock Michelin front tire seems alright…the rear was crap (imho), switched to a shinko 525 rear tire, and seems to hook up much better. Also like a few of the IRC tires

I was loving these tyres with the tubliss at 5psi. However I sliced it open and was unable to be plugged. I had noticed it had minor cuts all over the tyre.

Trying the front tire out here in East Tennessee. Running UHD tube at 11 psi. Slow, tight singletrack with rocks, roots, and mud. Unpredictable handling to say the least. Traction here, front end slide there. Came across a 2” branch across the trail and the tire just slid sideways across it. Why oh why did Goldentyre discontinue the GT233?

My go to is a GT216AA for hard enduro and enduro. I’m in Pennsylvania, I don’t think I’ll ever run a different front tire. I hope they don’t discontinue it. Super predictable and lasts FOREVER. Can run it at whatever psi you desire.

I've tried the front on my dual sport. It excelled offroad and was a great tire! I found it a little soft and unpredictable for the highway though. When I was doing hard enduro all the time like you blokes ride my go to, cheap setup, was the shinko 216mx up front and 525 cheater in the rear running low psi's.

@@crosstrainingenduro It’s a “super gummy” with a stiffener in the sidewall. I have a durometer and it measures softer than the Shinko 505 and 525 tires on the main treads, but, and here’s why a lot of my crew runs it, the sidewall keeps it from feeling like a marshmallow when you’re doing any faster connecting trails. Then when you get it into the forest it’s grip city. I’ve run the 505,525, GT216 but I like the JX8 best for the forest. IRC also has the VE33S which measures as gummy as the 505 and 525, but again has a better sidewall feel in corners. No feeling like it’s rolling under. The VE33S is better for faster “hard enduro” and loose shale like hill climbs.

My go to front has been the Michelin enduro medium. Works well just about everywhere. I've never worn one out but I do find the edge knobs break off far too soon. Meh on the rear. A lot of the places I ride tend to have clay mud. I tried the 120 & 140 and gave up with it. Much prefer the mitas xt754 green stripe (red stripe really is only suited to mud). Better in mud but worse on rocks and life. But they've gone expensive like the mediums. Currently using Michelin trackers because the enduro mediums are so expensive. They're better than I thought they'd be. Acceptable in most places but awful on rocks.

It's weird how almost any brand will occasionally have the side knobs break off on the front.... including expensive Goldentyre. Manufacturing flaws? Occasional bad batch of rubber or silica?

Been riding Trackers front and rear and I can only say good things about those. They are cheap, grip well in any conditions and wear is very progressive so they last long. I suspect they use the same rubber as the Medium but since the knobs are bigger and taller you have more to wear. Sizing is a bit weird tho, I took a 120/90 same as the Medium but they size like the 140/90 Medium.

Yep, another viewer said even crap tyres become good if used with TUbliss at low pressure. I tend to agree. Possibly this Michelin works really well due to its light weight and thinner carcass. It just wraps around rocks and roots when used with TUbliss.

I run Michelin enduro mediums with proper size Michelin bibs. East coast USA hare scramble racing 50A(minus😂). Absolutely love them. Sometimes run m59 front as it takes same Michelin bib size. My 21 beta race edition came with Metzler extreme they were great too. Those are hard to get here so switched to Michelin.

I’m in PA. Do you find the lower knob height on the Michelin Medium makes them more stable going over rocks and roots? I’ve been running IRC JX8 110/100-18 which has tall knobs. I’ve been looking at what the Euro guys use and they seem to swear by 140/80-18 with the FIM knob sizes.

My 22 Sherco had these from factory as well and personally, I could not get any traction out of them for the life of me. Ended up switching to Michi Starcross 6s after about 3 rides and haven't looked back.

That could well be it. Higher knobs would probably be better in the loamy stuff. Could be riding style too? For faster riding with lots of wheelspin the FIM style may not work as well?

@@crosstrainingenduro think mainly type of terrarin. Faster trails you would want stiffer nob or carcus(normally tire pattern is good enough for what desgined for) but can easily fix with more air pressure give extra stability.

I've got 150hrs on my 2022 TE300 TPI and have only just swapped out the original rear Michelin Enduro Medium that is still incredibly grippy. I ride fast but snotty single track with about 8psi and handling is excellent. Unfortunately the $250 price tag is a bit hard to justify....but hey 150 hrs! Mmmmm?

@@crosstrainingenduro Boulders,roots, and really good loam if I’m lucky. I found the front to wash easily and the rear to struggle with roots and boulders. I ride with tubes and generally keep 8-12 psi in tires. Hard to beat the M59 or X31 front. There’s 3 gummy rears I love, and cycle between. VE33S is probably the best overall as it lasts awhile and is predictable. Everyone is very opinionated when it comes to tires though! I ride with people who I couldn’t keep up with if you paid me all the money in the world, and they always have completely worn tires. 80% rider sounds about right :)

I reviewed the Motoz Hybrid years ago which is similar to a trials tyre but longer lasting. As other guys say, no much chop when it comes to longevity, mud or faster cornering.

2psi with any tyre is going to give unbelievable traction. Do you run 2psi in the front too? When ever I try running less than 5 on the front it feels like I wack tree roots and rocks too hard… I suppose that’s not in first gear though…

This is using TUbliss though. It hold the tyre so firmly that it's like having about 3 psi in there already. So when we pump them up to 2psi it's effectively like 5psi. I think I run about the same front and rear. But if it was a faster ride I'd probably put in 6psi so I effectively had something like 9psi just to protect the rims and get better high speed handling.

Absolutely loved the set that came on my 300 SE for hard stuff. Such a light tyre and the traction with slow riding on hard terrain is insane. Coupled with the Sherco's ability to lug at really low revs, it's fantastic - a few times I was amazed how when I'd fuck up a hill climb but not stall and maintain traction to get up it. But yes AUD price is ridiculous so went to Goldentyre GT216 & 333 since, which suit make more sense since I ride fast more often than slow. If I'm riding only fast stuff I'll go with a Starcross rear with the GT216 front.

Mitas double green is really very good.Still - "Far superior" may be not adequate here, you compare a gummy compound to a durable medium/soft version. The gummy version of Michelin is what you should compare - and then Michelin will be more than equal (Michelin is choice of top riders for a reason)

But if you want to make it more fair you can compare the single green and even that I think is far superior. The Michelin is good when new but as it gets worn It loses a lot the mitas wears much nicely

I accidentally got a Dunlop 120 wide rear when my last 110 let go. Had to make some trailer adjustments but it's a bloody ripper. Side question, is there any tyre that works on slippery wet clay?

We don't encounter that slippery clay often, Kris. But I imagine a hard compound would work well so it didn't flex. High knobs spaced well apart to resist clogging up. And a good straight edge. E.g. once the knobs round off, reverse the tyre or use a knobby knife to get a straight edge again?

I’ve been running the Enduro Medium 90/100 with standard mousse since last year. It’s the first front tire setup I’ve done that feels good to me straight after a fresh tire and mousse. But they are $$$

My beta300 2020 come whit that tyres but to me isn't a good tyre for technical terrain and whit tubs is worst. I prefer use in front the muitas c19 super light 90/100-21 and on rear tubliss and use Kenda knarly 778 or shinko sx216. Just my opinion.

Amateur opinion based on decades of hooreing around irish enduro’s: These are a great tyre to benchmark against others. Pro’s; The grip is mega, due to the compound and soft carcass. The compound is so good, they continue to grip when they are well worn. With a mousse, they are the perfect allrounder. They are super light weight. Cons; They are bloody expensive. They are almost a mousse-only tyre, as they are super thin. These tires are by a fair bit thinner in the sidewall than most. In my experience, these aren’t great with tubliss as every ride you have to plug a hole or slit. I have found that if I want all these pros without the cons (Except for cost) -metzeler six days extreme. Similar properties, proper sidewall.

Confused: shouldn´t the Video title be starting "Michelin...", not "Motoz..." So many tyres - so little time.... The Michelin have replaced my standard tyre Metzeler "6days" as rear tyre. Because of softer compound and carcass. Bad performance on wet clay is typical for round knobbies+soft carcass+low-pressure - you need fresh rubber there and a bit more pressure imho. The Michelin have a rotation direction, but I found no disadvantage when turning the tyre rotation to get sharp edged knobbies again. Alternative: Metzeler 6days soft (not supersoft) are a bit similar to Michelin. And Mitas Terraforce green stripe also. With front tyre I am less picky, but prefer stiff pressure for predictable precise cornering on everything with more than slow speed. Still I find Michelin is great (a single complaint - edge knobs tend to break early unfortunately). Alternative e.g.: Bridgestone M59 or the new X31. Mousse by Michelin is also really great. Be aware the Michelins need larger mousse than most and their mousse is also large. The Michelin equipped with their mousses is my gold standard for allround riding with hard enduro included. I disagree on your take for tires. I’m a beginner rider and struggled until I changed those rock hard stock tires on my Beta. Once I had some softer rubber it felt like I was a much better rider. Tires are cheap in the US. Around $100 to get a new tire that can last all season.

If I successfully pull off a maneuver that looks both competent and stylish it is of course me. If I attempt to pull off a maneuver and crash and burn in epic fashion, it is of course the tires....

I cannot believe these tyres get good reviews. To me this video proves that low pressure is all you need to have good grip. I could not stand these tyres on my Sherco 300. Absolutely no grip when bike is leaned over any more than like 10 degrees, they have such unpredictable edge grip, especially on the front. The front reminds me very much of the D606 front; it gives way at any moment without warning. Also they've a pathetic amount of tread, I believe they are FIM approved which means a measly 13mm knob height. The knobs are so small and so far apart, I really dont understand why. I put on a pair of Starcross 5 mediums and they were 10 times better. They lasted quite well too. I then put the old Shinko 216 + 525 pair on and they also grip as good as the starcross (but not better), but the 525 seems to be wearing quickly. I think I'll be sticking with motocross tyres after this Shinko pair are done. I run 12psi + HD tubes because I cant justify the $400 AUD for tubliss, especially when the only guy in our group who runs tubliss has more trouble and punctures than the rest of us. We do a combination of slow hard enduro and fast open riding and any tyre gets sloppy handling below 10psi at speed anyway. Fun fact: the Michelin Enduro rear are labelled as 140 width, but measure about 10mm skinnier than the Michelin Starcross 5 which is labelled a 120. Measured either knob to knob or sidewall to sidewall. Riddle me that.

It's a strange situation, I think there have been four viewers now who said they didn't like the Michelin. Is it just different riding styles, terrain and air pressures? Who knows. Ditto for TUbliss, in my limited experience 95% of users are converts and love it. But then you get that occasional situation where there are endless issues. The manufacturer will usually say it's not following the instructions closely. But it could be the occasional manufacturing defect. Almost everyone is my broad riding group is on them now and no problems over about seven years....
