The Michelin Road 5 is the company’s newest implementation of technologies unveiled in the Power RS in a different category of motorcycle tire.
The Road 5 is intended for everyday riding - read commuting - in the wet and dry followed by weekend canyon carving. To improve the Road 5’s wet weather performance, Michelin’s engineers also updated the sipes that were used in the Pilot Road 4 sport touring tires.

I have Them on my GSX 1400 and my experience of them after one week on the road and a trainingday on a go-cart track is that this tires are the best i had on my Suzuki. Regards from Sweden.

Hello. The tires are fantastic. When I changed the tires I had them on for 8350 kilometers. I could probably reach 10000 kilometers with them, but I don’t like to ride on to old an outworn tires. Very safe and reliable and incredible contact with the road. I bought the Road 5 again. Good luck with your Bandit. 👍

i was stuck in virginia needing tires going home to new jersey on may 17th 2018, i ride a 2003 aprilia futura and i had always had pirelli angle gt on my bike, well the shop only had the pr5 tires, so not knowing anything about the pr tires, i had a 6 hour ride home in the rain! and did it rain, down pours, light rain, everything rain, highways, back roads, exit ramps, allot of traffic! these tires were the most amazing things! they stuck to the road like i was on a vacuum! i was so impressed with these tires and they my trip a safe trip! i hit almost every type of road surface with these tires and i will now be purchasing only pr5 in the future! so thank you to michelin!

I have them on my VFR 1200X and will go back to the road 4. Grip levels in wet on both 4 and 5 are equivalent. However I have a modified stiff suspension, adjusted for higher speeds. The road 4 has softer body, offers higher riding comfort at lower speeds and feels better in the corners. My impression is, that road 5 offers more, if you take it to the limits on a race track, while it has become slightly worse for the every day driving on the streets. I recommend everyone to try both.

I had a pair of PR4's on a Ninja 300 and they worked great in the wet, and even did well in 3 or 4 inches of snow. They were well worth the little bit extra in cost. Very interested in seeing how the R5's do for a sport touring on something like my ZX-14R.

a 300 and a zx14? did you keep your starter bike? i too own a kawasaki 300(a klx) in addition to my ducati but i never ride the 300 now that i have experienced the magic carpet like ride compare to my 300's pogostick handling...i only bought the 300 because my friend owned one and we rode offroad together and it was not much fun destroying him all the time with my xr600 so i picked up a cheap 300 and we had a blast racing each other

This felt more like an infomercial than an objective review. Every "review" I've seen confirms these are good tires, and I believe them. Would have preferred more objectivity and less Michelin video clips. Overall, this "review" is just OK for me.

Hi Greg. I can confirm these are great tires. 2012 Kawasaki Concours, coming across the north Cascades Hwy 20 from Winthrop to Sedro-Woolley. I got caught in the mother of all rain storms. Near the top of the pass the water was coming across the road like a river in many places and sometimes almost up to my footpegs. All of my high priced waterproof gear I was wearing eventually failed. Even the closed vents on my Shoei RF 1200 were leaking rain water to my head, but the Road 5’s never once slipped or made me feel insecure in any way. Yes a heavyish sport touring bike but these tires compared to the road 4’s and others proved to me that Michelin has truly done their homework.

They look superficially like they're giving up some of the PR4's epic wet handling to improve on their pretty mediocre dry handling (squirmy when pushed). That's fine I'm onboard with that - as long as the durability isn't changed... the 12k mile front/10k mile rear durability combined with good average wet/dry handling was why the PR4's were my go to touring tire (I run Angel GT's on the bike for sporty/around home day riding).

i have been running pilot power for almost three years now and they are an amazing tire to the point of relucltance to try anything else...in that time i have been caught in the rain twice (i know, its tucson) and the last time i was just trying to break the rear tire loose and the grip was like 96 percent of dry, i really couldn't break it loose, at least on the power and braking side...i wasn't willing to drop into any corners...i want the road 5 but im thinking i want to try the Q3

On the introduction... you wanted to say "Pilot" Road 5, didn't you? :-) My understanding is you got it right. Michelin dropped the word "Pilot", but it comes naturally to want to say it. I can't wait for the GT version for my heavy tourer. No road tire will beat the Pirelli Angel's in dry performance... but I'd like to try the Road 5's and see for myself.

I'm really pissed that Michelin is marketing this as a "Sport Touring" tire. I wanted a sticky canyon tire for my Z1000, but got the Power RS instead of this because I figured my bike is not a touring bike and doesn't weigh 600 pounds so this would not be appropriate. Now, after only 1800 miles my Power RS' are toasted at mid lean tread and I'm really kicking myself for not getting the Pilot Road 5 instead.

Evans, my favourite motorcycle.com journalist, still no critisism of a new touring tire. How does it compare to a pilot power 3 tire? What's the difference in the carcass shape! I like spiritited riding on a fast turning tire... Not sure if I should choose power3 or road5

I decided to get road5. It isn't as sharp turning as my previous pilot power 2ct. And front end feel on brakes is shit on road5. Nevertheless it is very good sporty and forgiving tire on rough roads and even on gravel. I would never get pp3 anymore. Road5 is alot better on rough road surfaces and if I only rode on smooth tarmac, I would get power rs.

its no brainer that mitchlin are gonna talk good about their new "improved" tyre but reality is that the road 4 perform better on the bends then road 5's reason is because of the slick side walls on the road 5's. my 1000 sports bike kick out 3 times both in wet and dry with road 5's on, so in less in 1k miles I put on road 4's and they are 100% more better than the road 5. the road 4 has more thread pattern than road 5 and this is was makes it grip. I also felt more grip with 4 than pr5.

Nothing fake about it. Michelin is written on everything. If the tester were attempting to hide the fact that he was there on Michelin's dime, then perhaps you would be on to something. Take it with a grain of salt and hear the pitch on the features and improvements. The idea there is any really means of evaluating a tire beyond someone documenting their experience over the course of the life of the tire, (which is still subjective)is simply not realistic. I'll try a set when my PR4 GTs wear out...I will like them or I won't....

What you say is true, but it is old news. Most informed viewers understand the uneasy alliance between journalists who ought to champion the consumer, and manufacturers with shareholders to placate. At the end of the day, Michelin is a world famous brand and keeps a leading position by making new tyres and inviting journalists to try them out. For most people, tyres are not the exciting thing about motorbikes.
@markjurczyk
@markjurczyk 6 жыл бұрын
This is happening everywere this days, cars , bikes, etc. We know what would happen if journalist would say , this car or bike or tire really sucks, they would never be invited for tests anymore ! There goes your free trip to France, Japan, Germany......! It's just fake news to me

Thanks for your response, interesting stuff! While I still run Pilot Power 2ct's on my sv650 k7, my father runs Roadtec 01's on his R1200R. I'm still impressed by the PP's in the rain, but sure it is an old model tyre. However, as you pointed out, I as well doubt the Road 5 will be as confidence inspiring in the wet as the Metzeler. I think the tread pattern of the Road 5 is just a bit too slick. I think I'll upgrade to Continental's Road Attack 3 because it also has great wet weather and cold weather performance while it is a bit sportier than the Metzeler. That said, I think the Roadtec 01 is the ultimate tyre for a BMW 1200 series
