Tsuta is one of Tokyo's most revered ramen shops. After gaining much acclaim locally for their shoyu and shio soups, they were awarded a Michelin Star, the first ramen shop in the world to do so.
Their popularity means that there is a special ticketing system in place. Come in the morning, get a ticket, and return during your ticket's time. Despite having to jump through these hoops, Tsuta is worth it.

What a beautiful bowl! It's nice that ramen is being recognized for the great cuisine that it is. As a base for other ingredients, or a comforting warm bowl of simply noodles and broth, ramen is an ultimate food!

To me, the first thing I tasted was fish stock which gradually took a back seat to the chicken stock, shoyu and red wine. Still thinking about it months later. Also, get the little bowl of pork and rice. Best $2.50 you will spend.

I visited Tsuta when I was in Tokyo last February, and was reserved for a 1pm meal. Killing time at a nearby Starbucks, struck up a conversation with an older man (late 60's / early 70's), local to Tokyo. I told him about my plans to eat at Tsuta. HIM: There's a lot of good ramen in Tokyo - but I haven't heard of Tsuta, so it can't be very good. ME: It has to be, because it has a Michelin Star. HIM: What's a Michelin Star? ME: It's a French based international award recognizing culinary excellence. HIM: So you're letting the French tell you what good ramen is? Well played, old man. Well played.

You sound like a kid whose only experience of japan is youtube and amime. I've lived for a few months as an exchange student, and it isn't as magical as it seems. All the kids there are addicted to anime and manga, the majority go home straight after school unless they have tutoring. Every adult male is working close to 24/7, a culture that promotes unpaid overtime and drinking long after work is done. Girls aren't as hot. Students and adults alike are extremely stressed. It is incredibly tough to get into uni, and failing means being jobless, as well, due to Japan's failing economy, most japanese people are overqualified and underpaid. Suicide rates are extremely high, highest in the world in fact. It was weird, almost every week some kid hung themselves or went missing, it was depressing.

Love Tsuta. I went there on my first Japan trip in Jan 2015, as I saw it on your website. And then went back again just 6 weeks ago and ordered the works for 1,250 yen with the 4 slices of Chashu... Not to be rude but, but it would be great to describe the food rather than saying "really-really" good then full stop. Example of how to describe it: from texture, taste, smell etc. Example for texture is the ramen springy? If yes springy like.. say Italian Pasta? Spongy like squid? Hows the salt level? Does the Ramen have a hint of herb or spice? Anyone else agree with me, please put a thumbs up on this comment.
