Another fine interpretive cover, including a "French" feel by including the accordion, clarinet, mandolin, etc., plus a brief, but nifty, jazzy cut-time solo. Not sure what the criticisms are all about, perhaps that Josh and company have spoiled us rotten with years of quality KZbin vids of acoustic splendor. Some people's brains are wired to notice what they think is "wrong". A strategy hopefully aimed towards improvement, but comes across as nit-picking. I enjoyed the heck out of this collaboration. Keep up the delightful work!

Personally I don't like this version. I don't doubt his ability. One of the best musicians around at the moment but I just don't like this version. We're all entitled to our opinions. Otherwise music would be boring. I don't expect everyone to love my music and I don't think many musicians would expect everyone to love theirs. Josh included. I'll just look forward to his next one.

I liked this and I think this is great. However, listening to it I think, if we are honest, if we compare this with the latest Josh Turner output he has come a long way since.

Just discovered Josh today, and am totally blown away by the musicianship, the combination of eclectic breadth of interest and great musical taste and discernment in choice of songs, and the egoless collaboration with a range of other great young talents (especially Carson- real magic there). Not only amazing instrumental proficiency, great pitch across a huge vocal range and flawless tempo, but something even rarer and more valuable, a fully formed soul and a passion that shine through in every performance I've seen so far. I see a huge change happening in how people relate to music- in some ways I think we've come full circle from the days prior to the advent of the 20th century music industry. For most of human history popular music was folk music, and musicians drew from and worked in a tradition that was largely regional and culturally specific. In the melting pot of America, music was commodified and industrialised even before the advent of recorded music- from the 1880s to the 1940s popular songs essentially all came from the publishing houses of tin pan alley. The Beatles were hugely instrumental in changes that revolutionised music in a number of ways- not only were they a key force in the transition from the tin pan alley model to recording artists who wrote their own material, but they also shattered the barriers between genres, drawing musical influences, techniques, arrangements and instrumentation from everything which had come before, and was available to them in the recorded media of the day. The Beatles treated all of musical history as the folk tradition they were drawing on- e.g. the Django Reinhart/ Hot club of Paris jazz feel of Michelle- you can see Josh channelling Django on that Gypsy guitar here, and in other songs like "Sleep". In a similar way, I see artists like Josh and his circle, along with contributors to things like Post-modern Jukebox, and a few others as pioneers of a whole new model for music in a post-record company age where influences from the best of every genre and time period are available on tap anywhere anytime, (along with resources like tab libraries for us less gifted mere mortals), and where new technology has lowered the barriers to entry and made it feasible and affordable to capture recordings of performances. This particular one might not actually be my favourite among Josh's performances- it's a very well done version, but there's a genuine quality and an immediacy to the contrapuntal interplay of musicians gathered around one or 2 mics creating in the moment (like Sleep) that is very hard to recreate in a layered multi track recording. That said, I am a skinflint cheap old fart (born a year or so before the Beatles first landed in the US). I am used to a bricks & mortar transactional kind of economy, and I have often perceived millenial snowflakes trying to monetize their vlogs and set themselves up as "media influencers" as just useless parasites. I think it says something about what Josh and his circle are creating that somebody like me is seriously making a patreon contribution for the first time. Just listening to "Martha my dear" in another window now as I finish typing this, and it's an excellent example of the contrapuntal interplay I was talking about earlier. Bravo!!

Much better Beatles adaptation, having fun with it is what is important, when you extend yourself and explore your resources you always come out on top. Trust yourself, just as Paul trusted himself! Well done both.

Wow, never thought I'd see the first instrument I had lessons on in one of your videos, Josh. I began accordion lessons at the age of 5 and took it for three years -- until the instructor moved out of town and we couldn't find another. Then I began on the piano -- and taught myself guitar but my fingers are not suited to that instrument -- too short. Kudos for this beautiful arrangement.
