Thankfully, they let her sing this "live," rather than lip syncing to a prerecorded studio version, as is usually done in movies and TV. The immediacy of the performance, the live timbre, and the genuine reaction of the other actors to her real performance made the scene incredibly affecting.

She sang at the 50th Anniversary of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London and has occasionally sung with Sadie and the Hotheads, a band formed by Elizabeth McGovern, who played her mother in Downton Abbey.[31] In February 2022, it was announced that Dockery and her Downton Abbey co-star Michael C. I am so glad she included the intro to the song-- I recorded SOTR a capella, 7 times, melody and 6 harmonies, and several people said they hadn't even known that the intro existed until they heard my version.

That was beautiful. I used to sing that song to my mother when I was taking care of her the last couple years of her life. We played a recording of Ella Fitzgerald singing Over the Rainbow at my mother's graveside service.
