Former first lady Michelle Obama has weighed in on the bombshell interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Oprah Winfrey, and some of her comments came during a conversation with TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager. “Race isn’t a new construct in the world for people of color, so it wasn’t a complete surprise to hear her feelings and to have them articulated,” Mrs. Obama said.

I watched this a few times and the first time I thought Mrs. Obama was going to say something in high support of Meghan. The next few times I watched it, I could see how measured and in the middle she was staying and making basically three statements, all of which are true: One, that racism has always been in the construct of people of color and as such Meghan should basically have expected it. Two, public service is about the others that are served, so Meghan should hopefully focus on these others. Three, first and foremost it should be about family. In other words, perhaps there was another way to voice unhappiness without outwardly attacking her own and her husband's family. Mrs. Obama never said anything critical, but rather, took a higher road approach.

(and I am, for the record. a huge fan of Michelle Obama who has always been a class act and a true inspiration to us all). Mrs.Obama says she hopes for healing, but not for a single second does she question if what Meghan says is actually true. Meghan may have felt that she was treated unjustly and with racism but that does not make it true, does it? I have no doubt so much of what really happened is that Meg didn’t want to do the work. What Michelle & the queen call a life of “service”. First of all, this woman did not really understand about royalty; and they knew this. They should have educated her and trained her to behave in the manner that the royal family would be pleased with her, she just had a baby, and was already post trauma in that aspect, instead of criticism her and helping her and guiding her to behave and under about her job position no one did that. She was already fragile. I just know she was not treated fairly. They did not give her the knowledge and training so she would understand what was acceptable behaviour and what was not, plus being a new mom with a new born baby. The thing that stands out to me about Meghan Markle is the disconnect between what she says and what she does. She has said serving others is her goal yet she has spent considerable time and energy since marrying Prince Harry telling us how difficult her life is. She is not actually serving others in any meaningful way.
