Selamat Hari Merdeka. For me it’s definitely Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) very beautiful film and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) Michelle Yeoh was on fire in that movie and one of the films that I really want to watch is Yes, Madam 1985.

That’s a difficult question to answer as she elevates everything she’s in. However I think as far as action goes for me it would be Yes Madam or Police Story 3. Thankfully here in the UK a few of her early movies such as these are being released on Blu-ray. When I here they’re being released I preorder.

When I saw her in SuperCop in America, I was like, "Who is this woman?". I was impressed with her just as much as I was with Jackie Chan, if not more. I was a fan immediately. I started to look for her movies like I did Jackie Chan. I was so excited to see her in Tomorrow Never Dies, and was thrilled that Crouching Tiger was a hit. I thought for sure she was going to be a superstar in America. But It didn't really happen until the last 5 years when people knew who I was talking about. I couldn't be happier that people are recognizing her now, better late than never. She is one of my favorite actors of all time, not just actresses. As an actor period, men and women. She is great.

The Oscars are not supposed to be compensatory. Performances must be anaylized independently. And I don't think she has been in EEAAO any better than Cate Blanchett or Ana De Armas. Being honest, I don't think she's top 10 of the year.

I can’t disagree. Personally, I think it’ll be difficult to beat Cate Blanchett but we’ll see what the SAG awards bring us. For her trailblazing work in the past 40 years, an Oscar would be a tremendous achievement

I think people don’t talk enough about Michelle Yeoh especially people in Malaysia. There are no interviews talks about her upcoming film or talks about her journey as an actress, action film star, her winning awards or maybe her charity works. I hope you have the opportunity to interview her someday like you got the opportunity to interview Edmund Yeo. I also would like to know her thoughts about our film industry, that would be an interesting question. Btw, thank you for making this video.

If you manage to interview her, I would think the focus is on her movie and career. Wouldn't think she want to share her love and personal life. She has been engaged with Jean Todt for 15 years, due to no suitable schedule for a wedding. She is now on fire, everyone wants to book her.

I knew Michelle was multi-talented - long before EEAAO. She always was mesmerizing - from her hilarious tofu tray fight in Wing Chun to her brilliant, but quiet, deep, nuanced portrayal of Yu Shu Lien, a lady bound by her era, to keep all her emotions + passions internal, in CTHD, for which Michelle should have received an Oscar nomination, besides her BAFTA one.

@@NicholasOon I truly believe Michelle deserves to get the next Best Actress Oscar; even if the time is right for her, we still need the element of luck, + have to overcome the bias in Hollywood. The Academy doesn't always acknowledge the "strongest performance" (no disrespect intended); I am still smoldering over Glenn Close being overlooked for Fatal Attraction, in favor of Cher in Moonstruck.

@@maggiechan33 I’m with you on the fact that the Academy doesn’t necessarily reward the best performance from a technical standpoint. At this moment I reckon it will take one hell of a marketing push to beat Cate Blanchett, so the next few months will be critical to shape the narrative

@@NicholasOon Yeah, I'm definitely in the minority on that one. @ Maximum Hype I think you misunderstood Michelle quote @ 6:59; Michelle was criticizing Hollywood for it's lack of substantial Asian roles - that Asian/Chinese actors only appear on the screen, if the venue was Chinatown. In the US, we "Chinatown types" are NOT soft spoken nor submissive. Also, we should not have to quote/reference Tarantino, whom was highly controversial with his treatment of Bruce Lee. We don't need him to validate how incredibly riveting + exciting Supercop + most Hong Kong action flicks are.
@NicholasOon
@NicholasOon Жыл бұрын
Interesting points! Can’t remember the full quote but you might be right. I didn’t see an issue with referencing Tarantino who I believe is a great filmmaker. You might disagree and that’s absolutely fine

It honestly doesn’t make too much sense on the surface level, but would have to read the actual article to properly say. I will say that 1) we were certainly slow to realize her talent, and 2) the film industry here is relatively restrictive and has increasingly stifled creative talent, so Tan Sri Michelle would likely have been better off overseas anyways.
