If you're talking about orbiting around the Earth, it's technically drifting away at the same speed you're attracted due to gravity. Once you get enough distance to any massive body, you're no longer falling, but everything will distance itself (technically it's the expansion of empty space, rather than physically moving iirc) from you in an ever increasing speed, until at one point it becomes physically impossible to get back, even with lightspeed (which ultimately causes the heat death of the universe). Well, that is how I understand relativity, which may be wrong. To clarify: As in I might not understand relativity correctly, not that relativity is wrong.
@ghostagent3552

But also falling doesn't really exist, the paths merely converge and bent to a point at the center of gravity. ScienceClic made a really good animation for spacetime curvature in proper 3d model (not bent 2d sheet)

@shingshongshamalama

That's not how anything works. We don't "mix colours." Our brains simply assign what we call colours to various different of the red, green, and blue wavelengths defined by what each of our different cone cells detect. When an object you're looking at has a mixture rather than just one, that's what you see. If a shrimp looked at something that stimulated multiple different colour receptors at once, it would still see a combination of those individual wavelengths as well.

I’m going to butcher this explanation but an example I learned about the fourth dimension was to imagine someone was trapped in a three dimensional cage, if the person was in the fourth dimension, they could simply move to a time where he is not in the cage just like how a three dimensional person can escape a two dimensional cage by moving to the third dimension

A study was actually published in 2014 debunking the mantis shrimp thing. Apparently the photoreceptors in human eyes are configured to make comparisons in the intensity of different light frequencies to blend colors, whereas the cones in the mantis shrimp's eyes rely on photoreceptors for individual colors, making them effectively worse at distinguishing different shades of color than humans.

a good analogy for geometric dimensionality could be to imagine you have a 3x3x3 cube in minecraft, in position 1x1x1 you place a white wool, in position 2x2x2 you place pink wool & in position 3x3x3 you place red wool and the rest black, but you have a mod that allows you to instantly tp the yourself and a guide overlay of the chunk you are in to the Nether with one click, to the End with a second click & back to the Overworld with a third click, now the Nether & End are a spectrum of dimensionality just like Left-Right, Up-Down, Forward-Backward, Future-Past, Anawise-Katawise. so we can now think of the first cube as 3x3x3x1 and make cubes in the same place as 3x3x3x2 & 3x3x3x3 each with a different coloured block in position 1x2x3x2 & 1x2x3x3 and by moving block between the three overlapped cubes you are doing something like a Rubik's cube in 4D. Geometric dimensionality & Lorentz equations, Minkowski spacetime & Einsteinian spacetime are different things. a geometric hypercube is as separate from time as the idea of a square but the parabolic trajectory of a physical thrown block is time dependent, but the mathematical abstract of calculating the parabola isn't. time certainly is a dimension in multiple fields of math but also might not be IRL according to some physics theories.

I like the logical conclusion of the Ship of Theseus: once everything is replaced, if you take the original parts and out them all together in the same original configuration...is that the Ship of Theseus? Is the new one? Are they BOTH?
@Feanor1988bis
@Feanor1988bis 7 ай бұрын
The trick to answering the question is to define his property rights, but while you'd find a technically correct answer that way, the philosophical dilemma of whether it's still the same ship would remain unsolved. Also I'm pretty sure you can't replace the keel, because removing it would basically require building the ship back up from zero, and at that point it becomes hard to argue it is the same one even if you use parts salvaged from the old.

But if you disassamble and reassemble a Pomni wodden string toy, piece by piece, seems like the same one unless changing the string that kept it together means it's a recycles thing, is the string the toy? Is the concept of toy the crossroad in wich matter and configuration meet? is the continuous existance of toy after it's first day of use just the human stubborness of wanting thing to persevere and remain? The moment a chip and a strand fall, it is no longer the object you originally saw and percieved, but it is still named the same, like a amnesiac person, like the son to a man, proud of its family name. The question is confusing by using Michi logic. If you want to mix fields, a thing can mean a thousand and be incongruent with itself. Things exist as a construct of the human mind desiring a simplified measurable outcome that can be used or avoided. The crossroad is like why we live, why the bear porridge is just right, Goldilocks is not on venus or mars, mercury or neptune. The right time, the right energy, the right conditions. The green line is where the true name lives. If a furry splinter is no longer Pomni, then the answer is that the new parts with no original are he true Toy. If the fallen is still a part but outside of it's main form, then the object is not broken or fixed, it grew, it expanded. Both are the true Toy. If the original factory provided components you first saw it with are what make it, then the Pomni is gradually decreasing, desappearing into the void, replaced by a new one. The Toy is dead. If somehow restored. What does restored mean? Somehow finding every atom that was ever shed? Or could we be talking furry splinter, and shape and configuration of inherited stuff, making the new toy with 'old' wood being filled the cracks with new unrelated material, also get he name of 'Toy'? Or is it as the biggest amount of non decreased material left? If restoration Has any part of original material, Toy was not dead or revived, if a molecule is not longer accountable for a name. If restoration has full molecular count as irrelevant and the conceptual material itself is main, then you get two different toys. The result depends of your preconception, and is non interchangeable with other people's ideas. Reality is formed by our hive minds, a connection of perceptions, when you are not there: there is no tree or forest, nor fall. Only hidrogen and carbon. Strong atraction. If you leave a computer working after the last breath ever given, the world still exists, alveat virtually. The is no universe with no life, there is calculations that show that, like the forth dimention(or the idea of a fifth), there is something outside of life, but not reality. When your eyes close, all Matter is Dark, and every day it grows closer. So, the answer depends on your beliefs. What IS? What does It mean? It's on you. When a concensus is achieved, everyone is on he same boat, and using the same measuring stick, an IF can be chosen as The One. In the mean time, who wants a wooden doll?

You missed the simplest way to explain dimensions themselves and why we cant imagine (so we cant drow them as well) more dimensions than basic 3D + 1 dimentional time. Dimention itself is vector - direction we can move. So 1D directions are forward and backward, 2D additional directions are right and left. If you imagine compass it has N E S W directions and all of them are at "flat" surface and there are right angles between all of them and you can imagine "center point" in the middle of them where compass arrows are rotating. 3rd dimension additional directions are up and down so as you can expect surface changes into object couse another extra directions still have to be placed in right angle to rest of directions going out from "center point". And there we go with 4th direction, additional directions are named ana and kata (you could hear those names in biology as anabolism and katabolism, those are opposite mechanisms so thats why they were used as opposite directions), the point is you have to take our "center point" with forward, backward, right, left, up, down all in right angles to each other and add ana and kata in way to make all 8 directions to be in right angles to each other. Human brain is not ready to understand quantum's physics and thats why we cant drow diagram of 4 dimensions. But.. i didnt explain time dimensions yet so lets begin. Compare time 1st dimension to space 1st dimension (forward, backward), time 1st dimension move possibility is just forward - as explain we, earth, sun and everything we know is moving forward time, everything is getting older in simplest words. Sciense is allowing time to have more than one dimension and direction couse we couldnt regret it yet. Well.. 2nd time dimension allows to move backward in time but we didnt find how to. Its not end about time dimensions, couse as time is going forward and we are flowing with that its not fact we can go only with one small exacly path, take a look at road cross, you can go forward time with right space or left space (or other direction) but experiences proved that one physical 3D object can move through 2 holes in wall at once to 'land' on 2nd side of wall but only when object has no observer. Thats telling us we are going through many time directions in 1 dimension at once casually and unnoticeable. Another funfact, we are living in 3D space world (couse we cant imagine more space dimensions) but our eyes are seeing only 2 dimentional, when we are looking at cube we know its 99% cube or 1% illusion fake but we see it flat, we are looking at right, left and up walls of cube but we dont see rest, we can say rest doesnt exist couse we cant notice it by just looking from one perspective

To add some more context to the hypercube. It's not a 4d cube, but a 4d cube's shadow. To explain, if you hold a cube up to a light, it's shadow on the wall is 2d, but you can make out that is a 3d cube's shadow based on it's shape, and the way it morphs as you move it. In the same way, just as 3rd cube makes a 2d shadow, a 4d cube hypothetically makes a 3d shadow. the hypercube is not actually a 4th dimensional cube, but a visual representation of what it's 3d shadow would look like.

But then again, someone could just cut the ship further into a new shape entirely independent of the original ship. For example, if the ship was made of plastic, you could just melt it onto a new piece. All that's limited is the available material and our brains that are hooked on object permanence.

Fun fact about shrimp colors! They have extra cones (color processors) because they don’t have the brainpower to blend colors to process things like purple, green, orange, etc. Instead, they have cones for those specific colors as well. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but effectively shrimp can’t see more colors than we can

The Sun looks yellowish because the bluer parts of it's light get spread more easily by the air (and that is also why sunsets and sunrises are redder, the blue got spread thin going thru more air due to the shallower angle, and the stuff closer to red is what's left); not all of it but a lot of it. So you would think it would be white without the air, right? But here is the big twist, it has a lot of light across a wide range of colors, and it would look white to us, but it is actually the brightest at the green frequency, the Sun is whiteish green! And our eyes and brain just compensate for that and make it look white!

Using time as the 4th dimension is pretty confusing. Using the flatland analogy to add a 4th spacial dimension is easier to explain imo.

maybe its my understanding but I feel like he didn't explain 4D very well, its about being able to navigate in those dimensions I think? so if, as 3D beings we can navigate to a point in a 3D space (like finding seats in a cinema), then a 4D person can navigate to that seat at any point in time, they can choose to go to that seat yesterday, then next year, then a week ago in same way that we can navigate to first one seat, then go to a different seat in the cinema.

I would absolutely LOVE to just try to educate vtubers all day. It is always funny. On the hypercube, these gifs never made sense to me. The concept of an extra dimension made sense, but that weird fleshlight video didn't. But a few days ago, I saw a video of a hypercube being unfolded to appear as a 3D object like you would to a cube to make it 2D. It finally made sense visually. What these animations are trying to represent is that each side of a hypercube is actually a cube, and we get the weird shape from trying to bend the cubes to fit together as a 4D object. Also, I don't think that a hypercube is supposed to be the same fourth dimension that time is. A hypercube exists in our 3D space plus one of the other 11 spacial dimensions plus time like normal.

It didn't change. The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, so that even if you gradually replace each part the ship is still the thesius, capable of things no single part is capable of.

If that's the case then every ship is the ship of Thesseus. They are all made of similar irrelevant (according to your point) pieces that put together are capable of doing what no single part is capable of, yet all other ships do.

Well the problem is if we think of time as 4 dimension or not. We could think of 4 geometric dimension and it would simply make objects appear out of nowhere or reaper/ get bigger and change shape, he should have told her a 2d paper example, where we could place a cube on paper and people living there would only see square(well technically a line). So we humans are 4 dimensional beings as we live in 4 dimensions but are only capable of seeing 3 dimensions.(2 dimensional being could only see lines). If we take 4 dimension as time, 5 dimensional creature could see certain amount of time at the same time and interact with any point of it. On the other hand 4 dimension as a geometric type would make that 5 dimensional being simply be able to appear and disappear things warp their shape depending on their true 4 dimensional structure. The weird thing is that then everything we see would have hidden more complex shape as the same way even paper has 3 dimensions, we humans would have hidden 4 dimensional shape.

Actually, they found out that your brain cells do get replaced. The reason you forget your childhood is because, during a stage of brain development, your brain chooses to destroy weak connections in order to improve brain efficiency. It can happen several times in some people.

I feel like my braincells are dying while listing to michi breathing copium while trying to understand 3d. Also the 4th dimension is theorised to be time, but also other versions. Normally when explaining 1st dimension you say its a line, the second is then commonly a square, the thrid is a box, and we say that the fourth would be a box inside a box inside a box inside a box, and they are all inside each others, therefore when we draw it or simulate it, it becomes a moving image. Also man forgot to mention the aspect of theseus ship where we build a ship of the replaced parts, and have to ask yourself, which is the real ship of theseus.

In terms of moving through the 4th dimension: Nothing actively does that (which is why time travel is impossible), everything just exists at a new coordinate of time as it passes. Like, a second is the distance between two points in time the same way an inch is the distance between two points in space. Also big fucking note: THEORIES ARE PROVEN TO THE CURRENT BEST SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING. Edit: Nvm, a chatter pointed it out. And yeah, it's extremely important to get the difference between theory and hypothesis correct when talking about physics. Because "theoretical physics" are not "hypothetical physics".

There's actually one question for the Theseus Boat: So, if the boat that was replaced all over is already a different boat, what if we built another boat using the parts. that was replaced, from the original boat. Which boat now is Theseus Boat? The newly built from the original parts or the current with replaced parts? I cracked the hell up on "if people are 3d, then old people are 4d"... WTF

If you think about it, everything we think is 3d is 4d because we perceive it as 4d creatures. We can't actually perceive 1D or 4D completely.
