Hopefully you all know that isn’t a dam, whoever thought that was gonna hold isn’t logical. Dirt will not hold water in any class for a long time, should’ve been some sort of actual blocker in between the water and the dirt.

Michigan's never had good roads because Michiganders have never wanted to pay for them. Same thing with these dams. The dam owner didn't want to pay for upgrades, and the property owners around the lakes didn't want to pay either. Nobody wanted to pay. Nobody wanted to take responsibility. Now all those property owners live on a mud canyon. The value of their properties just plummeted. But, hey, they really showed that they weren't paying for no stinking dam repairs.

@Judy Hinterlong the feds gave their warning a few years ago and then walked away saying it's up to the state. The state of Michigan was in charge of overseeing this damn as of about 2 years ago. Environmentalists and the homeowners around the lake fought tooth-and-nail for any lowering of the water level.
@Justbeingme971
@Justbeingme971 4 жыл бұрын
The water levels are definitely a massive factor in the collapse. After Katrina these kind of things should be getting done sooner vs later you should be able to do repairs without jumping through hoops to get it done. If the levels were high why wasn’t it lowered? I am only asking to find out how it works. Local personnel should be able to lower so this doesn’t happen. By no means am I saying anyone was at fault.

@grantgarrod2232
@grantgarrod2232 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, no, it's the last thing you want. Shrubs & trees sink roots deep into the earth & toward water, aka the reservoir side. The water, under tremendous pressure, will find these tiny breaches, & migrate along the roots, the soil will liquefy into mud and lose it's integrity, & the dam will fail. This happens even on small ponds that have an earthen bank dam. Only shallow-rooting ground cover, like grass, is planted to prevent surface erosion from precipitation. Fill any reservoir with an earthen dam well over capacity for an extended period, & this sort of failure is bound to happen sooner or later, especially if excessive rainfall is an additional factor.

@ttmallard
@ttmallard 4 жыл бұрын
A port is a small pipe created by sediment transport in earthen dams, groundwater makes them too. So detecting these and sealing the porosity is needed over time because the superfine sediments can't be stopped the way they're made. Nobody tracks these as a serious matter. Oroville Dam has the same effects showing up 50yr later. HiRes GPS & markers are needed for all earthen dams.
