In short, it comes back to the O-line. Doesn’t matter if Orji and the receivers get better until the QB has at least 2.6 seconds of pass protection.
@SWLion26Ай бұрын
Oh please. They would have lost that game to USC if Davis Warren had been the quarterback. He’s a good kid, but he lacks the skills to play against top competition. Michigan’s strength is running the ball, at least Alex Orji is fast and he gives them a chance. If the offensive coordinator would just step up his game and provide more creativity in formations, misdirection, etc.
@Josiah-gk4ouАй бұрын
turns out he’s not that fast though. did you watch? jj was quicker and a better runner
@SWLion26Ай бұрын
@@Josiah-gk4ou I don’t think OC Kirk Campbell is doing Alex any favors. Having QB so frequently in the shotgun makes it easier for the defense to diagnose what the offense will do. He should be under center with two back sets, and there should be a lot more RPO and misdirection.

@robertjulieannanalett1691Ай бұрын

No team in the league has a good enough defense to stop the Michigan running game as long as the QB has to be accounted for. Truth is it doesn't matter whether that is because he can run or pass. If he can keep the ball and attack the outside and pick up yards then the defense still needs to play deep enough to keep their angles. With that said I would like to see them work on the passing game this weekend and focus on modest improvement each week. No team scares me in the league if the defense shows up like it did last week and that includes OSU who also is weak at QB.
@thomasorzack5795Ай бұрын
Good point OSU QB is way better than MI's .But MI can beat them with turnovers and special teams

This was a team win. Offense played better. Defense executed better. Special teams played better- both Tommy Doman and his cover guys- especially Taylor! Offense will continue to improve with wrinkles and Colstons return. For this team, the Texas game may be a blessing as it showed them they needed to work harder, focus on their assignments. Now they can get better- including Davis Warren- still think Alex is better for this O line- but he could get beat up and we might need Davis. Also like that the country thinks they can’t win like this, those folks were wrong on Saturday. If we continue to improve- ceiling is very high!

The big question for me is why Orji wasn't the guy getting reps last year in blow outs if he was the future? I think he is a great athlete and with some game experience might have been ready in game one this year. Good news is Michigan and learn on the job with the defense they have, but they need to play to improve as well as win.
@michaelcso2400Ай бұрын
Harbaugh saw something about Orji last season that caused him to not play in the mop up. Orji couldn’t win the starting job at the beginning of the season and now Michigan has no other choice but to go with him. I hope he’s better than what’s he’s shown thus far
@FrenchTosteАй бұрын
I think Harbaugh saw something in Orji. What that was, idk. In 2023 they had him play against MSU, against Ohio, in the B1G Championship game, The Rose Bowl, and the Natty. Granted, they were using him like they did this season against Fresno and Texas, but he was definitely playing outside of garbage time and in big games, nonetheless

I just don't think this game plan for the offense is sustainable. Any good DC will just load the box with 8, and make us throw the ball. You need some threat to pass in order to keep the defense honest. And if we don't plan on doing that, it's time to turn Michigan into the old school Nebraska or Oklahoma offenses.

Some fans are naive and say this every year. And every year we beat the team we can’t doing it just like they say we can’t. (If no one can stop us do it until they stop it. People don’t have anything against Orji, they don’t miss Warren. They are missing having an experienced coaching staff that knows what it is doing. I know you are trying to be the CNN of UM, but facts are facts, this staff didn’t go get a QB, they started a QB that was not good, and now they have switched to a guy who can hardly pass. So yeah people are a bit panicked going from Harbaugh to a guy who looks lost in the headlights.

I don’t love where we are at QB but I can’t see the case for Warren at this point. We are here because Jimmy had his foot out the door the past 3 off seasons and we couldn’t get a commit from multiple top guys. Because of winning the Natty all the best transfer guys were gone. At least Orji makes the running game better and if he can add a few more passing plays every game that’s great. Warren back there had flashes of 2008 all over it. It was never going to be pretty or look anything like last year offensively. The question for fans is how low do you want the floor to be?

Michigan fans and media live in a constant state of panic. Anything less than perfection makes them trash every player and coach. Even after the National Championship game last year, I heard some grumbling how they should have played better. Edwards and Mullings have proven they can throw the ball. How about a halfback pass now and then? Since 2014 U-M has passed for less than 100 yards seven times and won every one of those games. Yes, they can beat anybody with dominant running and elite defense.
