No big name coach is taking the Michigan job until the NCAA sanctions are settled. Hard to believe you missed that as the timing is up in the next month. As for Bill O’Brien, he is from Boston. He has real local roots and this job is a perfect match for him. I hope it continues to work out for him. He did a great job at Penn State.

Both Michigan and Alabama lost King Coaches, which played an intricate role in recruiting, player development, and phenomenal game planning against their opponents.

Doug, small nitpick. You talked about Michigan's coach hiring as though it happened during the normal cycle. Maybe you didn't mean that, but people sometimes are confused about why Michigan didn't hire Fisch or DeBoer. Obviously it's because those guys (like Jonathan Smith, who you mentioned) already had new jobs by the time Harbaugh left. I think the only two coaches who were hired after Moore were O'Brien and Foster. I suppose Bill O'Brien could have been a candidate, in theory. Maybe things would be better, assuming he would have had a way to grab a QB in the portal before it closed. But since you compared Moore to Smith, I think Smith, by virtue of having the experience, is a better coach, at least right now. But that would have been a tough sell over Moore to the fans. DeBoer or Fisch would not have been a tough sell. But they weren't available.

Cignetti was set up for transfer portal success with his experience recruiting transfers from FBS programs to his lower level teams

Michigan has a QB problem and oh, by the way, they don't know the plays beforehand anymore.

Absolutely insane to say Saban is a bigger loss. Deboer is not Saban, obviously, but at least he appears competent as a head coach. Moore is completely lost. The difference between this team and the last three Harbaugh teams is historically stark. The excuse that they don't have a quarterback does not excuse Moore, rather, it is the most damning indictment of him not recognizing it and going out into the transfer portal. That is gross incompetence.

Does a competent coach lose to Vanderbilt with that talent disparity?

No one really knows what happened with the QBs and the portal. People will twist it however they want for their preferred narrative. We'll see what Moore does with the portal and QBs this offseason. I agree with Dan that Bama misses Saban more than Michigan misses Harbaugh, but that just has to do with the expectations that had been set by Saban, not that I think Saban could have maintained that level in this era, which is why he retired. However, Doug is kind of crazy for saying that Bama has more problems than Michigan, which I guess just means I agree with Dan again, since that's also what Dan said (in so many words).

The Mythagain situation is a lot deeper. The last year of Hairball’s tenure he did a horrible job of recruiting. Once 2024 is over, the cupboard is pretty bare. The NCAA sanctions will be prohibitive for the portal. Who is going to want to play at a school that can’t compete in the post season? Furthermore the mere fact that they cheated will steer many kids away from associating with a program that has been soiled? We will see.

@@tummytom10 Not sure what the purpose of listing four random schools was. I'm missing the point there. Is it "everyone cheats"? If so, you're missing at least one other school I can think of with a history. As far as this goes: "I don't need a binky I'd rather your tell me that michigan didn't cheat at all and won every game on coaching and talent alone" You would rather I _tell_ you that or you would rather that you _believed_ that to be true? If it's the former, that is part of your binky. If it's the latter, even if it were true that you wished such a thing, your lack of belief in that is your cope (a.k.a. binky), which is why you made your original comment on a video that had nothing to do with Stalions or NCAA investigations.
