Talk about flinging an arrow out there…..stay on your private land….stop wounding deer…..and yes…..you should not have taken that shot!!!

This is why I don't shoot recurve (also the slower the cutting the more painful) & why I never shoot over 15yds. I almost never shoot over 10 yds. Plus the bible makes it clear we are supposed to respect and be kind to animals. Like when it talks about laying down your sword (like laying down your gun these days) to go lighten the burden of your enemies mule. That says a lot lot when you think about it without the preconceived idea's & entitlement we are taught. The bible makes it clear how much God loves animals & how highly we are to think of them. That is why I don't let my excitement or greed get in the way. I may kill a lot fewer deer but I have only wounded one deer in over 20 years. It's not about what or how much you get. It's about how you do it. I wish more people would keep a diary of each hit they make because many would be surprised how high their % of bad hits are & the needless pain they caused. If you could feel what he feels you would know he is not fine. Science (& common sense really) has proven animals can feel excruciating pain and terrible suffering. They just don't show it like we do. Imagine if that broadhead was in you. Mistakes can be made but most mistakes are preventable.

That would’ve been one hell of a shot at that range with a stick and string if he didn’t move. Props to you👍🏼

great video! Public land with a traditional is awesome! One thing ill say is I've seen deer shot with .50s that bled less than that, when you get a high up shot like that and no passthru the majority of the blood will pool in the animal. You can hear the arrow smackin every tree he passes no doubt that fixed blade made a smoothie in there before it fell out. Deer are incredibly tough but I would assume that deer is dead never can know for sure with these animals all you can do is your due diligent tracking. A more experienced dog would have been better obviously, one that's trained on blood and interdigital scent, shouldn't need blood the whole way for the dog to identify and follow the wounded animal to its bed. It also says alot about the dogs ability that it couldn't follow the track atleast as far as you did by eye. Great video ya earned my sub

deer is alive.....dogs dont track blood.....they track bleeding deer....your deer sealed up and ran off

A tracking dog doesn't need blood they go off of a gland that a wounded deer escrets when injured

Bummer, I'm sure he's still going. Don't let it discourage you. That is something that has happened to all of us. Also, did I hear you say " reconnoiter" in your video? 🤔😂

That shot may have worked if he was feeding or something, but he was alert and looking right at you. You’re right we all make mistakes hunting (bow hunting especially) and they’re never fun mistakes. I’ve just started looking at stick bows. I love the simplicity. I think all my set ups would be thick so I wouldn’t be tempted with longer shots. Good video overall. Showing our mistakes ain’t easy.

Really enjoyed the vid. A buck like that is hard to resist, esp on public, and you put the shot right in there. I'd say he didn't die, but the dog should have been able to go a lot further than you did. Best of luck in the future.

Well, you live and learn. Like you said, not a good shot to take. Alert deer at 30 yards is beyond risky. But don’t beat yourself up too bad,I also agree the deer is fine. Probably chasing within a few hours.

Awesome video man! Monroe hunter here. Just curious I’m assuming same reason I hunt compound bow only. Why recurve?

I lost my first stick bow deer last year. Hated it, sickest feeling Ive ever felt. Redeemed myself this year. Ironically with a longer shot than the one I lost.
