This week on Detroit Food Review, we're heading to a true Metro Detroit institution-Gabriel's Cheesesteaks, located in Westland, Michigan. Since 1959, Gabriel's has been serving up delicious subs, earning a reputation for having some of the best cheesesteaks in the area. Over the decades, they've become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, and I’m here to find out if their legacy holds up!
In this video, I’ll be tasting three of their most popular subs. First up, I had to try their original cheesesteak with provolone cheese, a classic that’s been winning hearts for over 60 years. Next, I switched it up with the same original cheesesteak but this time topped with American cheese for a slightly different flavor profile. Lastly, I couldn’t resist trying their ham and cheese sub, which promises to deliver that perfect balance of savory and cheesy goodness.

Yo, thanks to your review, I stopped in yesterday and had the provolone cheesesteak with Xtra cheese and mushrooms and it was absolutely amazing and well worth the price! Under 10 bucks for a jampacked sub with extras is amazing! I'll have to be more mindful when I go back to take a couple pics and leave an amazing review bc this was so good, it was gone before I was able to take pics. Thanks for the vid! I'm 3 miles from Gabriel's in Westland. I have been eating their hoagie's since I worked at a GM plant in Ypsilanti. This is the best hoagie I've ever had. And they're big!

Great video. The mention of K-mart is what got me! I've been to Gabriel's and liked it, but it's been too long. I've been going to Izzy's and Broadway Cafe in Ann Arbor for cheesesteaks over the last 10 years. If you make it to Ann Arbor, check out Broadway Cafe for a cheesesteak. It's a Korean restaurant, but the cheesesteaks sandwiches are excellent - truly a step above most others.

It's one of my go-to cheesesteaks. This locale is closer for me than Ypsi. I see they finally added another cheese choice. I always liked the butcher paper use.

Try Matt & Mo’s Italian Beef at Doug’s Delight in Hazel Park - best Italian beef outside Chicago, everything there is quality. Poutine is so good, too!

I didn’t like Gabriel’s @ all…the meat was very bland some seasoning would’ve made a world of difference . Bulldog cheesesteaks in Dearborn or Lefty’s cheesesteaks are much better options…
