It should have been Rock beating Triple H at WrestleMania, but then Vince turning on Rock the following night. Then have the rematch at Backlash, with Austin returning to fight off the McMahon-Helmsley regime, which would give Triple H an excuse for another rematch. Then at Judgment Day, Undertaker returns to cost Triple H the title, leading to a Fatal 4-Way at King of the Ring with the returning Kane involved.

That's the story, yes. We'll never know how much truth there is to that. Shame it wasn't a triple threat though. But if they're just throwing Foley into the mix just to give him something to do then it probably should have been Rock v Austin.

Yet another example of HBK being jealous of The Rock. Austin aside, no one got close to Rock’s reactions in 98 & 99. It is ridiculous to think that Austin Rock wouldn’t be in the main event of WM15.

I don’t think any other match would’ve been better than Rock v Austin here for sure. I was too young at this time to have watched all leading up to it so I don’t truly know how strong the rivalry happened to be at this time. But in a way you could’ve made Mankind v Austin work too. Instead of flip flopping the belt a bunch between Rock and Mankind in the months leading to this wrestlemania you could’ve just left it on Mick to have the match but I can get that the corporation story with rock as corporate champion makes sense. I know we’ve heard all the stories about how shitty HBK was during this time but it seems odd to pitch Mick out of jealousy of the Rock. I’d understand it more if HBK was still active but I guess it’s hard to understand the rationale of why you’d do that to go after the Rock if you aren’t an active wrestler to benefit from hindering someone. It would make sense to me if he was active here as maybe you believe that you can slip in and benefit from Mankind in that spot easier than you’re going to be able to do so from the Rock. But otherwise it just doesn’t seem to have a reason outside of just being petty I guess. But then again we do know how messed up on pills and shitty HBK was as a person during this time so I guess it’s possible he made some push purely to spite the Rock. Hard to see why but sometimes you can’t judge an unreasonable person on a reasonable scale.

@@briansherrick1708 Yeah I remember reading that as well. It was either his 1st book, Have a Nice Day, or his second, Foley is Good. Both he wrote entirely himself, with no ghost writer at all. They are pretty funny and a great read honestly.

The wrestling internet, having thought for a decade that HBK had destroyed Foley's chances in a three way, suddenly learn that HBK was for Foley being in the match, but have to switch over to a new assumption/theory that it was only to screw The Rock, all the while never noticing how little they actual know.

I wish there were more Mankind/Stone Cold matches honestly. I feel like Foley has a ton of great matches with all of the big stars in the late 90's, Taker, Rock, HHH, etc. He has a few good ones with Stone Cold too, but not as many... I guess they were both huge babyfaces by the time they really blew up, so matches between them wouldn't have had that much heat?

I remember when i was around 11 and Mick showed up as commissioner sporting a buzz cut…Thought it looked so ugly/dorky of him. Not sure if he gained weight as well at that time but he didnt seem like himself and i wonder now if he would’ve looked more “normal” to me if he had kept the hair and mask during the commissioner phase. I mean in all honesty maybe thats what they had in mind originally- was mankind in mask with mr socko making matches…that certainly would’ve looked cool. Instead we got something else….👎
