Piers Morgan Uncensored

2 жыл бұрын

After an eventful Glastonbury 2022 took place over the weekend, Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, broadcaster Adam Boulton and TalkTV contributor Esther Krakue to discuss and react to some of the notable performances.
Piers starts off by showing a compilation of Paul McCartney and Diana Ross performing, suggesting they're not at their best at this stage in their career. Shaun responds by saying that at these events you don't have a lot of time for soundchecks and musicians are rushed on stage to perform, so they aren't going to sound their best.
Piers says McCartney sounded good but Diana sounded like "a bunch of drowning cats". He then points out that not all performers have the best vocals, calling Mick Jagger a "bad singer". Shaun is horrified by this claim, telling Piers "you can't say that!" while talking about the Rolling Stones legend.

No one in rock history can bring both high falsettos and deep blues baritones to a song like Jagger. His vocal emphasis on song lyrics are legendary--elevating many of the RS songs. In addition, many rock singers are completely unable to deliver after 50--while Jagger still delivers at almost 80. I think the success of the Stones being on top for 60 years speaks for itself. No other rock band comes close to that longevity coupled with relavance.

Paul Mccartney had a high maintenance voice. He sings very high or did and did a lot of destructive things like screaming. It takes a toll but so does age. He's elderly now. Mick Jagger rarely did anything too aerobic with his voice. He doesn't really even form much of a melody most of the time. Instead he belts out chops. It works and he and his fellow Rolling bonemates keep on keeping on as a collective unit. They have a lot of people on stage and rumored for years to have people backstage playing. Paul now has another singer doing much of the singing because he simply can't do it anymore. He's one of my favorite vocalists, and I'm amazed at some of the things he used to do with his voice. Once I was singing his song Wanderlust and struggling on the very high notes and fell out of my chair onto the grass with a pain in my back. Apparently Paul's voice is sooooo good I developed a kidney stone trying in vain to emulate his range. The next morning having tossed and turned all night long i thought I was dying the pain was so bad. The pain gradually subsided while in the hospital and the ultrasound did not detect the stone. Speaking of stones, Mick is often monotone when he sings whilst Paul used to be so dynamic. People will jump on Mccartney vocal analysist videos and say Freddy was better. I get the impression these woke types only think he's better because he was gay. a lot of good that did his voice. Paul isn't the only vocalist who ever lived but he's in a special class all on his own.

What happened is what happens to all older men, if they haven't maintained their voice, they're going to lose it..... kind of look at what happened to McCartney... I know another post says that he can still sing but probably after the Chaos in Creation in the BY, his voice became warbly and difficult to listen to, one of the things that McCartney needs to understand is that at his peak, his album sold alone based on the vocal ability, at least that's my opinion, because he could use his voice to sell albums whereas the others yes, including Lennon, frankly couldn't, not that Lennon didn't have the capability, he didn't know how to use it, McCartney did...

Piers you are 1.000.000% Right!! Diana Ross was a total mess. And that is EXACTLY what "Honest Vocal Coach" says in her youtube video about her. And I agree with that totally. Regarding Mick Jagger, you are again right in the center of the target. He does not have a voice at all. Never had it. Surely a fantastic gym-stage performer, but in terms of voice, ZERO!!! Lot's of movement, screaming, but nothing compared to real voices. And Paul Macca also never had a great voice. If any of these would go to the TV show "The Voice" or similar, they would have no chairs turned for them The big success of the Stones and the Beatles comes from different factors. At that time, this kind of "voices" were accepted as good as part of the gigantic movement of the british and american bands. But today, there is a totally different ball game.

Second that. Just seen them twice on their current 'Sixty' tour and his tone is virtually the same as it was back in the 70s. Great pitch as well, especially considering how active he is while singing.

@@sambourne4923 Very true, I was very impressed with how intense he still sang songs like Midnight Rambler, Sympathy For The Devil, Start Me Up and Paint It Black as well as newer ones like Living In A Ghost Town. And to think he's just shy of 80.

Lots of singers are technically better than Jagger, Daltrey is another, but I would prefer to see him and The Stones over Mercury all night long. I doubt Mercury would have been the front man he became without Jagger existing. Better songwriter too.

I understand if Young people dont like old people saying they should retire and let the Young artists take over because there's some great music being made. you can not force 20 year olds to appreciate 80 year olds performing on stage with a Worn voice thats just the way life is and always has been .i have nothing against Young people whose musical education has been America or Britain's got talent or x factor thats just the way it is and if Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Freddie Mercury, Prince, David Bowie, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Don Henley, Aretha Franklin, Liam Gallagher, Morrissey, Olivia newton-john, Madonna, Michael stipe, Kurt cobain were participating in these shows as 20 year olds they would never make it cause they dont look like super-models and have the voice of an angel

The likes of Diana Ross and Mick Jagger - not to mention of course Paul McCartney - have proven themselves time and again, and have NOTHING to prove to anyone. People don't expect legends in their 70's or 80's to sound as good as they did when they were in the prime of their careers, but want to see these legends perform live on stage in celebration of all they have given to music previously. If they don't sound as good any more, who cares? It's a celebration of who they are and what they've done. As per usual, Piers Morgan talk utter nonsense.

Concert goers don't cheer for Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger or Phil Collins or Elton John or Diana Ross because they can sing live really well. They cheer because they are seeing legends performing in the flesh, and of course the clock is ticking so who knows how many more times? I mean Phil Collins looks like he's on death's doorstep, can't walk, can't drum, and can barely carry a tune, sad but true, and yet many thousands of fans the past year payed big money to see him and hear him and to honour the Genesis legacy and his epic solo career. I remember back in the late 1980s you couldn't turn on a radio or a TV without hearing one of his songs, but now 30-40 years later he's a museum piece and no one expects him to sing with the same range and power.
