The strange thing was that every Premier League club still had the same manager and players in 2020 as they did in 2002, whereas I had made many astute acquisitions in my twenty years at the helm. Of course, having nothing more to prove in the game I chose to step aside... and where are THEY now????

The rules changed soon after to an official named squad of 25 that you could pick any of. Which is exactly what Mick did but pre rule. Yes it was ridiculous thankfully the rule changed.

There was no rule that I can remember. They fined Mick on the basis he had disrespected the competition by fielding a weakened team. They changed the rule to have teams name a 25 man squad, if that rule had been in place in Mick's time then the team he fielded would of been within his 25 man squad as he had basically picked his second 11.

There was this weird era where any sort of squad rotation was seen as being almost sacrilegious by the media. They were having a go at bigger teams rotating in the cups as well. Nobody really cared that much about it but it did prompt the FA to start enforcing their rules about fielding 'the strongest available side' in certain competitions slightly more strictly (or at all) for a while.

You know very little about Ipswich. The club started to decline from Xmas of the playoff season, and saw consistent l deterioration over the 3 years that followed until he left. The issue is that the owner Marcus Evans knows absolutely nothing about how to run a football club and has no interest. For the record I loved Mick, thought he was great, but it was 100% the right time for him to go (if anything , it was a little bit late). Mickma repeats the same pattern at every club he manages, it always ends in tears.
