Congrats on 10k dude. This is only the second video I've seen from you but your are a fantastic creator. It's been almost a decade since I was an optimistic teenager spending hours every single day watching videos about cars on KZbin but your content takes me right back to those days. Just passion for driving. No super flashy cars bought solely for the purpose of flexing on social media by a person who doesn't appreciate what the engineers made it capable of (if anything it's opposite of that with your comments on its lack of "playfulness" 😂) . No over-edited B-roll with hardstyle music blasting in the background. No a * * hole personality coming through in the video. Just a dude sharing the details of what it has been like to afford his... * somewhat * attainable car if I lived on a different continent 😂 Being broke I naturally stopped watching videos of cars I would never be able to buy but this style of video is pulling me right back on. I don't know why your videos were recommended to me based on my recent watch history of mind-numbing garbage but I'm really glad they were. Hope your meetup went well. Congrats on 10k, and here's to 100k 🥂

It's interesting that you mention getting the feeling of a car being "too planted", when I was picking new tires for my Miata I specifically chose a "bad" option (Nankang NS-2, a very cheap "performance" tire) so that I can play at the limit of grip even at legal speeds. I'm sure it would suck to drive on these tires at a race track, but that's not something I've tried yet. There are even a few famous cases of cars being shipped with "bad" tires for this reason. For example I remember hearing all the talk about people complaining that the Toyota GT86 has Prius tires fitted from the factory

So right as it is a tad wide...I have had to re wire my driving to adjust to the width...Love the car and just went past my one year ownership as well. Same colour but a 280 Cup with the 18's. Love the car and yes it has immense grip though I think the 4 wheel stear does add to the handling without you even realising.

Corners like a champ, altough steering is like a tug of war, you feel everything As much as I enjoy a manual, Im for sure going for an Auto, tried one already and I think Im going back when I get new car 😂 31mpg not bad at all for that power, saw a comment about a potential Supra? the new models are lovely, and they now do a manual version.

Very interesting hearing your customer experience with Renault's aftersales. If your 2nd key wasn't coming from France, I wonder where it was coming from, to take almost a year to arrive😂I currently work at BMW aftersales as an apprentice and unless a part that a customer needs is a low-demand item on major back-order or a discontinued part for an old car, it would take no longer than 10 working days from Germany haha. We have a strict procedure for ordering keys in which customers would have to collect them at the retailer, incase these security items get lost in transit. Also surprised about the quotation that the dealer gave you for brake pads - not much different from the '///M car' brake pads we charge (including the brake pad wear sensors)! Enjoyed the Crooked Mile POV btw👍
@MickDrivesCars
@MickDrivesCars 10 ай бұрын
Nice to hear a perspective from someone in the industry! I will say - the OEM brake pads are £300 and the caliper pin kit is £120, so £420 of that price was parts... still £300 labour, ridiculous! They are big brembo brakes but even then it's a joke. The key took 3-4 months to arrive, then I got messed about a bunch trying to get it programmed. Utter headache. Haha thanks man, I'm guessing you're local :)

Great video. Seems like you've got a good one, my 280's manual gearbox failed last month (mazda box) just over 25k miles. But overall your review is pretty bang on, I average 28mpg but I work in the middle of Manchester. You said your next service is spark plugs, but you're only on 21k miles on a PH2. Is that just the Renault recommended interval? I've not had anything mentioned to me from Renualt on my 2019. I also have the issue with the width, its absolute gorgeous to look at, but on my terraced street I have to put a wheels width on the curb so nobody turns into it when parking. I never get bored of mine. On Saturday I did a track experience day in a ferrari 430, Lamborghini LP560, and a Porsche 997 Turbo. And I was still glad to leave in my Megane RS. The only car that was more fun of the 3 was the Porsche. I agree with your point about it feeling too easy to drive. I've only understeered in the car once going around a corner, but it immediately came back into grip just by letting off the throttle. The 4 wheel steering is magical, but it's so hard to explain to anybody who's never driven the car. I also had a crap dealer experience, I bought the car from Renault Manchester and was told its got 5 years warranty. I took it to my local Renault for a repair and they were adamant that the system said my warranty had expired (3 years old), but I stood my ground and had to contact Manchester Renault myself to have them set it right. I've not had an issue with being treated poorly, but that's probably because they're used to me being in as I owned a 2020 Clio from them before the Megane RS. But yes, the prices they charge are absolutely daft. One of my favourite things about the car, is how good the engine and exhaust sounds. I rarely go a day on the road without someone turning to look at what they hear coming. No doubt some are probably surprised or disappointed to see it's a Renault.

10:24 I do kinda get what they told you because it did happen to me. I got a BMW that's 429BHP on the dyno, and it just feels somewhat lex exiting than my 74BHP Peugeot. I don't know if it's the fact that I drive in a region where I literally never get a chance to push it since I'm constantly in traffic, constantly driving behind a member of the "40 everywhere" brigade on a road where overtaking is suicide, etc., or it's the fact that it's an auto, but I simply cannot have fun in this thing. It handles brilliantly, and it does put a smile on my face on the rare occasion when I am on a clear, straight road and I can just floor the thing and feel it pulling like a train because of the crazy amount of torque it has, but this lasts for like 2 seconds at a time. I kinda feel like a wasted my money some days.

when you are driving fast, do you turn off the traction control? I found it making HUGE difference in my Audi S5 - with traction on, it's almost impossible to make it "dangerous" on a public road. Turn traction off.... Now every hard breaking requires tiny input to the steering wheel to keep going straight, accelrator tap in 2nd can almost oversteer you etc. You still have to go fast, because the car is that good, but it unlocks fun at lower level of speed

I heard Renault sports has stopped producing this car since this year, not sure how true this is. Im hoping to get a brand new regular RS version. How do you like its 4 control system? Does it make the steering a bit unpredictable?
@MickDrivesCars
@MickDrivesCars 4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate! The 4 wheel steering is amazing on the road, you can really feel the difference, it's not a gimmick. Also great for parking and manuring in tight spaces. Only downside is when the car gives up grip it happens quite suddenly and usually in oversteer. But you have to be pushing pretty hard for that.

Very easy to curb the wheels in this, no doubt I’ll have to get mine repaired a few times😅 I do need some advice though Mick, I have a chip in my paint on the bottom right rear spoiler panel. It’s only a couple of mm big and I think was caused when closing the boot. I can get the paint, primer and lacquer for about £20 at a very small amount but do you think I should apply myself or go to a body shop for them to do?
