Priceless stuff, I miss Gatlin and his brothers. Country music could really use them on the radio now. Newbury is criminally under appreciated now, as he was in his prime.

Like others here, I stumbled upon this purely by chance. What an absolute gem! Two of the greatest songwriters ever on a single stage. And at their peak, as they were here, their voices were absolutely perfect for the songs they sing. Even the clowning around was fun.

I was living in Riverside CA. At the time I first heard Mickey. this would have been around 70 or 71. I was so taken by his voice and lyrics that I bought every LP of his I could find. The were all beautiful start to finish. Mickey in my opinion is the greatest song writer in the history of country music although his music wasn't really country. If you like deep and soulful music find his CD's and buy them.

The reason the views are so few is because no one knows this is here. I have been a fan of Mickey's since about 1971. I did not know this was here until I stumbled over it this evening. Mickey wrote such wonder songs. He put words together so well you wondered why no one had said them that way before. This is great.

After going down a music rabbit hole after discovering Patrick Swazey could sing, I then found his "Love Hurts" duet with Larry Gatlin and was wowed by Gatlin's voice. Then, I wanted to hear more! Following the Gatlin rabbit hole, I started listening to him and the Gatlin Bros. (especially loved the short Alleluia song they did a capella(, as well as songs shared with other country artists, like "Indian Summer" and then happened upon this video. Like all of you here, I was in awe of the talent of these two men. Newbury is spellbinding, and Gatlin here is pure beauty. Just wow, where have all the good musicians gone...as Garlin sung, "Johnny Cash is dead and his house burned down." ☺

I'm guessing these two very talented guys are American. Why are the views so very low?
@hogsandsooners3 жыл бұрын
Because people are addicted to foolishness and garbage these days. Most people that enjoy this in the USA are either older or dead and gone. I’m 52 and I don’t personally know anyone my age or younger that listens to this. It’s a shame that we’ve moved so far from this style of music; sad, really. Mickey and Larry are both from Texas, USA. Larry is now in his 70s and we lost Mickey in 2002. Mickey is, in my mind, the finest songwriter in American history. Oh, that he would have stayed away from cigarettes, we might still have him with us. I listen to him on most days; those songs are so precious, because there will not be another to finish his work.
@bloozedaddy99653 жыл бұрын
@@hogsandsooners Great comment! I'm 44 and became a fan of both Gatlin and Newbury through my parents who were fans. These two legends wipe the floor with anyone on the charts today in the talent department . You can really hear the huge influence Mickey had on Larry in this show.

You appear to have knowledge that I don't. I just know of Gatlin's ability to write a good song and put it across. The writer of Houston, Broken Lady, and All the Gold in California is a big talent, He's also a good singer, and with his brothers, and band, can deliver a fine entertainment experience. Maybe he's a jerk, or something like that, but so is Van Morrison. That fact doesn't make Domino less catchy. I'll point out that he is most respectful of Mickey, who is obviously an inspiration to him. His attitude towards Mickey Newbury is somewhere between admiration and reverence,.So, no....I don't see the issue. @@NaturalRagman
