Coe was my first introduction to this remarkable song. You can picture the sadness, the depression, in his words. Beautiful song.

For over 46 years, I have loved this man's music! He could transport you to a long-ago time and a place somewhere on the roads to your fondest memories!

Amazing heart wrenching songs that touch the very soul of folks like me. Newbury's voice was pure gold. His ability to move you emotionally is amazing.

I'm pretty sure Waylon Jennings also covered this. It's my favorite Mickey Newbury song, so melancholy and intense.

Waylon did, in 1970, on the album “Whelan“. Also in 1974, David Allan Coe Covered it on his album “mysterious rhinestone cowboy.” I like the Waylon and Mickey versions

Ah, Mickey, such a songwriter, San Francisco Mabel Joy, Angeline, this, what a fabulous legacy. This is fabulous, so sad, Joanie did a wonderful rendition of it too, on "Blessed Are"

My mom had "Blessed Are," she played it almost every Sunday morning for a few years. I loved that album, I still have her copy of it. Front to back, a masterpiece.

@@michaelr4028 I'm an OLD JB fan, going back to 1970. I saw her live in Sydney Australia in 1974, 24,000 people packed into the Sydney Showground, just a stool and an acoustic guitar for over two hours of magic! Then again in 2015 in Canberra, where I was lucky enough to get her to sign my "Come from the Shadows' LP! Blessed Are is surely one of her best, but if you can get it, get From Every Stage, a double concert album, the electric second LP is just fabulous, Forever Young, Boulder to Birmingham, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, etc.....

Dunno why I never heard of him before - just reading Townes Van Zandt's biography and Mickey is mentioned in there so I had to check him out. Really like this and I will be listening to lots more of his stuff! Thanks.
