I'm sure that had something to do with it but honestly I think what Ian said actually resonated with him. Mickey's a tough guy so he has to pretend like he only did it because Ian forced him to but I think he wanted to and he knew it, and he wasn't going to let Ian get by just because he was being a coward and afraid of being who he is just like Ian told him. I think what Ian said it finally clicked in his head that that's exactly what he had been doing. He played off Coming Out as something Ian forced him into but the way he does it and his facial expressions I think Ian’s words hit him home and he realized he has wanted to do this for a long, long time and he himself was tired of hiding who he was and pretending to be someone he wasn’t. It just took a bit of a shove to force him to finally do it.

Mickey and Ian could've had easily killed Terri and no one would never suspect them since that psycho is a criminal with most likely tons of enemies, don't know why they never tried Mickey literally "killed" Sammi for way less
