I was able to make it to the 3rd level on Centipeid. Sadly the game is too small making extremely hard to play. Surprisingly the Missile Command on here is pretty easy to play. Both allow you to type your initials after high score. Pong is hard to play on here as well. Mine came in a much different package than the one shown in the video.

Centipede does run fast making it very hard to play. But Missile Command and Pong are decent enough for something this tiny. I really like playing pong on here and the Tetris microarcade is the best one hands down.

Finding out about this thing in 2024, and it seems to have become rare. Almost every listing for micro arcade cards has removed it from the lineup and replaced it with Oregon Trail. I'm only after one because it appears to be a unique port of Centipede (albeit a bad one), and I'm trying to document them all. It looks like these micro arcades are built on an arduino card. Could you ever confirm if it's actually Arduino hardware?
@GenXGrownUp4 ай бұрын
Hey there. I don't know about the internals, but I can let you know that this same port of Centipede is included in the World's Smallest 2600: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZ_caZKwjKiMp5I And good news, that's still easily available today: amz.run/9ToS

@@GenXGrownUp Thanks, that's tremendously helpful. Any chance this might also be the same port used in the Basic Fun mini arcade standup? They look similar, and came out around the same time.

When I saw that Centipede was on a handheld made by Super Impulse I got my hopes up, but the speaker just ruined it for me. Super Impulse needs to make those 3 games in mini cabinets.

Someone should make a retro arcade hand held unit that uses microSD cards. I don't think a lot of people are willing to pay the high upfront cost of such a gaming console, the console will probably cost $150 to $250, but you buy inexpensive games for it. Today we have a disposable throw away culture, we use someone a few times and throw it away. Back in the 1970s, and 1980s it wasn't like that.
@GenXGrownUp4 жыл бұрын
Ace, if you're ready to bite off a chunk that size, I would recommend exploring these little handheld units from GPD. amzn.to/3hrl66H They're expandable and powerful enough to run most anything up through PS1 (and in some cases, beyond). I have one from a few years back and it's quite capable.

@@GenXGrownUp Thanks for the link, that looks like a retro handheld video game console, like a PSP. It has a d-pad, and analog game pad as well. I was looking for something like that. Does it run emulators?

noticing the Logan fellow in the comments...don't mind him, I'm suspecting they're a bot judging from how he asked the KZbin music autogenerator bot if they wanted to be friends. Things that constantly annoy me about these types of repackaged games: 1. The postage stamp-sized screens (our GenX eyes aren't getting better with age) 2. Tinny sound (Do ANY of these games have decent sound?) 3. Games that are not in the proper orientation 4. Unresponsive or improper controls This one appears to meet all of the above criteria.
@GenXGrownUp4 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong, Keith. I will defend this one on #1, though. Considering it's the size of a credit card, that screen is just about as big as you could expect and still leave room for physical controls. I really like the physical design of these Micro Arcade devices -- now I'm just waiting for the internals to catch up. I've got a Series 3 on its way to me for review, so we'll see if they're making any progress.

I gave up on these mini handhelds and arcades a while back. There’re almost always unplayable except for a rare few. Worse yet, the games end up being weird recreations or rehashed console ports of the originals. And they generally have inappropriately or inadequately designed controls (Pong with a D-pad? Come on!) I really like the larger replicas that look and play close to the originals, but those tend to be much larger and more expensive. These little handhelds and desktop-sized versions are nearly always a disappointment.
