Hello everyone, to understand the theory of the producer we can make an analogy with the theory of the consumer. Just as the consumer can achieve the same level of satisfaction, happiness, utility, with different baskets of goods, the business can achieve the same level of production with different combinations of factors: it is the productive combination of the business. We are therefore going to talk about the level of production for the productive firm.
Moreover, note that we are no longer talking about good x1 or x2 but about factors of production L (for labor) and K (for capital).
In consumer theory, the latter was limited by his budget (this was his constraint). In the case of the producer theory, the firm must take into account the prices of its factors of production. The company will therefore face a cost constraint.
We can also ask ourselves the following question: why are there companies in our societies?
Many authors have attempted to answer this question. In the context of this video series, we will retain the response of Ronald Coase, Nobel Prize winner in economics, who stipulated that the structure of a company makes it possible to reduce transaction costs in the broad sense.
