Is there eye relief for the 1x microprism? Or is it unlimited similar to a red dot?
@victordogeman Жыл бұрын
PLEASE MIKE - we NEED a PLX quality cyclops, even if it was literally the exact same optic just with that Japanese glass, it would be phenomenal. If they offered different reticles (dot / horseshoe / crosshairs), and built it with something like the ADM mini acog QD mounts? Maybe bigger eyebox, maybe finer turret adjustments, or at least 0.5moa, with that same brightness and battery life? I’d give up my UH1/EXPS3!! So many people aren’t aware that at a medium setting brightness, the illuminated cyclops reticle is visible and usable against both pitch black darkness AND high candela white light on a white background- I have never seen any other optic accomplish this. PLX cyclops Mr. Mike, I’ve been hoping beyond hope for well over a year now ,.. if anyone can make this happen, it’s you!!! Well. Dimitri I guess. But please, we need a premium tier, duty grade version of the cyclops. CYCLOPS-PLX BAYBEEE!!!!

Without Knowing About The Issues Of Red Dots And Astigmatism; I Bought A Red Dot For My AR-15 In May 2020 Took It To The Range And Saw Something Other Then A Regular Dot. As Soon As I Got Home I Decided To Remove My Red Dot, Stick With Just My Iron Sights For A While And Do Some Other Research About Astigmatism And Optics. After A While I Decided To Buy A Prism Optic (Vortex Spitfire 1x) On 02/02/2022 From A Local Store And I Have Been Using It On My AR-15 Ever Since. Because The Vortex Spitfire Prism Optics Have A Etched Reticle And Cannot Be Co-Witnessed With Iron Sights; I Ended Up Removing My Iron Sights. @@ChristianConstitutionalist3192 Much like lights being bloomed in traffic, red dots will often appear bloomed making precision aiming difficult. There are a few solutions (etched reticles being one of them). I always take a picture of my reticles to see if it's me or my eyes (it's always my eyes). Another trick is to put a rear peep sight behind your red dot to help your eye focus on something. It all depends on your eye. A magnifier behind your red dot can also help focus the reticle. It's one of the reasons I have LVPO's on some of my set ups.

Karl I was at the gun show tonight and I looked down that 3X prism from PA that you’ve got there, I honestly liked it better than the 4X ACOG that I used to own. If you’re doing any shooting in high stress situations I noticed it’s a lot easier to get that dangerous “tunnel vision” with an ACOG because that eye relief is so shallow. But when I compared it to that 3x prism, that I relief is a lot more forgiving and I was very impressed by the crystal clarity of the glass and light transmission in that thing while also being noticeably lighter. Big thumbs up to primary arms on that one.

Great optics, great video. 2 rebuttals: 1. Binden doesn’t work well if you shoot cross eye dominant. Solution - offset red dot (or vertically stacked) 2. 3x or 5x is (much?) more difficult for moving targets. Solution - offset red dot. That also gives you a back up optic. I shoot right, left eye dominant. I’ve taken three fast moving deer 30-90 yards by rotating the rifle to an offset red dot. I did get a mover at 120 with a red dot, 3x combo once. Also, mover at 110 with 4x lpvo (at 4x) once, but in both of those cases I’d say there was more luck involved than with the offset 1x red dot. Shooting deer ain’t operatin’, but it is more real than paper targets at 50 yards.

I may have missed it when you were videoing. But you did that video with the EOTech the Sig and the PA microprism, and it came in close to beating if not beating the EOTech for parallax. Has something changed that would cause this to be an issue? It kind of struck me when you were talking about that being one of the cons. One of the things I have noticed is that the further back you mount the scope, the better the picture, and lack of any distortion. That might have something to do with where you have it mounted on your rifle so you can put your magnifier on it. Since the mount doesn't come with a QD function I've taken off all of my standard backup iron sights because they will not work looking through that scope. I do have 45° offsets that I use if needed. I absolutely love the microprism, and have many varieties of this model. I mount from shotguns, PCC, rifles, and if I could find something else to do with it I would. Lol

This video came at a great time as I'm looking an optic on an AR (450 Bushmaster) build for hunting season. I do the most walking in my group so I am considering a prism so I can hit game on that I kick up on the run but also want something good if I'm in a stand or blind for game at a distance. It looks like primary arms can accomodate that. Similar to the ACOG but the ACOG is mainly set up for the 5.56. A couple questions if you're willing to answer: 1. Will the 3x or 5x prisms work fine on a 450 Bushmaster. 2. How do these optics compare to the Vortex Spitfire 3x or 5x Gen II and the Sig Sauer Bravo 3? (Pros/Cons & Any particular reason why you lean towards primary arms?) 3. Have you conisdered doing a review on those different optics?

I used to enjoy the 1.5-2.0 mini-ACOGs in my old agency. While I still run dots 98% of the time, I did pick up a 3x PA Prism to give it a whirl. I like it pretty well, though I struggle a little with the eye-box size. I do wish they'd consider something like a simple 2.0x Prism with a larger eye-box. I think the mini-ACOGs work great for the Binden aiming concept and it gives you just that little edge, without being "too much" magnification in most situations. I will likely pick up a 1x Prism in the future sometime to give it a whirl. I have astigmatism but it's not bad enough that I can't run a dot easily.

Thank you for the video I have been saying for a couple of years now that the 1x Micro is the most underrated optic on the market. I am not even considering the price with that opinion - just flat out the optic vs. other optics regardless of their price. I also run the 5x with a red dot off set. PA sells the mount for the offset. I prefer the 45 degree. The piggyback isnt for me. With that set up I eliminate the need for a 1-6x LPVO in my opinion. I have the 1-2x covered with the dot, and anything more I have the 5x. If you practice you can use the 5x for anything from 50 yards to whatever distance you need. Some say 5x is too much magnification at 50-100. Like anything else you practice and see it enough it becomes second nature. The other argument is its too "shocking" to go from 1-5 or 5-1. That isnt really an argument in my opinion. If your LPVO is on 1x and throw the lever all the way up now you went 1-6 in a blink...or 1-5...whatever.
@mlone7 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your analogy of the 5x. I have one of the older ones and I have gone down to 25 yards with it. I dont concentrate on my dominant eye and look at the area field of view with my non dominant. My dominant eye picks up the reticle and I put it on my target I am watching down range. Another thing is the circle of death. At close range that circle is all you need to put on target for close range. The micro 5x doesnt have the circle. I have the 1x and 3x in green.

For the poors.... I just recently bought Monstrum Tactical 1x prism (called Blackbird, i believe). Anyway, love it. Under $100, crisp glass, solid construction. They also have a 3x called Raven.... I'm a nobody with no military or LEO experience, so take it for what it's worth.

My neighbor made a custom dioptre for his ACOG by picking up a bunch of glasses scrap from Target optical and machining a custom cap for it. I thought it was really cool, but also pretty dumb that something so expensive didn't have the adjustment built it. It's the only scope I've ever run into that doesn't have one.

Kyle, when you were in 5th Group did you know a Sgt Deavers? Me and him were in the same unit at Ft Campbell until he joined 5thGroup. This was back in the late 80s.

I have the P.A. 3x micro prism and yea its a nice optic I like it a lot. Got it on my Ak with the 7.62x39/308 reticle they offer. Also have a vortex razor 1-6 lpvo and in my opinion the vortex beats out the micro prism in every way except size and weight. The lpvo is heavy and I have the lightweight version of the vortex (forget what they call the one that weigh's less). The P.A. micro prism has very little eye relief compaired to the vortex lpvo. I have to get my eye way closer to the optic. For speed and overall better clairity and probably wider FOV the vortex wins (could be wrong on the FOV but thats what it seems to me. Just that your getting what you pay for with the razor 1-6. And I think that optic is bomb proof as well, possibly more so than the primary arms prisms but idk either, they both work for me. Just putting this info out there for people to decide. I say buy both and just outfit them on different guns. The Razor sits on my Ar-10, but I would love to put one on another ar-15 in the future. Overall, Primary arms is doing great work with these micro prisms, just wish the eye relief was better on them. At least with my ak, I cant get the optic to mount any further back than i have it with my rs regulate mount. Just neccessitates a different shooting positon with my cheek weld.

I’ve mounted mine above the ejection port and if I adjust the rear ring to make the reticle crystal clear it seems like the optic has magnification or whatever I’m looking at appears smaller.

I'm so glad i watched this because i didn't know that a magnifier would be an option for a prism optic!

I still use a 2.5 prism from primary arms and the only regret I have is that I didnt purchase a sunshade for this scope while it was still available. I have 67 year old eyes so this scope is perfectly clear.

IMO you missed one of the best things: for an extra $25 you can get a very simple and rugged offset mount to hold a reflex sight or (now) a red dot -- both of which Primary Arms makes with "shake awake." A fast tilt and you have a plain red dot OR a 3x or 5x prism -- both with shake awake so you can pick them up and go INSTANTLY.. I think it's the ultimate setup for fast action from 5-500 yards.

Except it's not very rugged. Brass Facts bent his and lost zero even before he could review it. Couple others out there have found that out as well.

Is there more adjustment range in the reticle in these than in the 1x models of a year or two ago? I have two of those. With no eye correction (glasses/contacts), for me, there is not enough adjustment to make the reticle clear.
@minilogoguy18 Жыл бұрын
Most glasses these days are made with the same polycarbonate lenses as safety glasses so if you need glasses just get some and wear them even to the range. As long as they aren't some small wire frame glasses they should protect just as well without touching the face. If it's good enough for OSHA standards for factory workers you should be safe to shoot with them. I say this because like you, I love EOTech's but being near sighted they're blurry without glasses and if that reticle is blurry then it's time to make an appointment to the optometrist, those wal-mart reading glasses are really no good.

I don't doubt the strength of the optic. But I do question the strength of the mount. I would love to see a test!

Ask Dmitry at P.A. to make these SLx prism scopes with a larger objective lens diameter. 30mm and up would be ideal.

I saw some complaints about the durability of the cantilever mounts that come with the 5x so I would like to see a test on that. The optics themselves though are pretty unkillable
