Exactly, this isn't a 650 yard lung shot on a deer with $5 per round hunting ammo. This is under 100 yard center mass on a torso with ball ammo - all of these are fully sufficient. I don't need a sub MOA group I need a fast way to put 3-5 rounds in a 10 inch circle.

I own all three of these optics. When running and gunning the differences disappear when concentrating on the target. There is one noticeable difference however that stands out where I live. The Romeo 8t has a slight tint that separates the greens and creates better depth perception in the woods. Makes targets clearer. I think the biggest thing is to find the reticle that works for you.
@brianclevenger55213 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that tip. I've been running a Tango6 on a 300 HAM'R hog carbine. I find the only time I ever use magnification is at the shooting range and I rarely take it to the range. I was really leaning toward a prism, but depth perception and clarity are probably the two most important factors since none of them are going to be gathering any light. I haven't been out this year, but my longest shot last year was about 110y in E. TX.

This is an excellent video Karl. Something I just wanted to add is Green Dots, which I don't feel like gets talked about enough. I'm a shooter with astigmatism (I'm one of those people who's vision is bad enough the eye doc already has my prescription memorized aha). A lot of shooters with astigmatism feel they are confined to prisms and nonilluminated LPVOs with the etched reticle. Not always the case! A green dot with the brightness turned down and cowitnessed with BUIS allows many shooters with astigmatism to utilize their dots and holographics.The human eye picks up green easier than any other color as well, so it's easier to see it in something like the middle of the day with direct light on the optic.

A fool proof way to test parallax is to set your gun in a vice, see where the co-witnessed irons are pointing, and then move your eye/ camera to different spots behind the optic and see if the dot's apparent location shifts at all. If it does, that means there is some parallax and your projectile will no longer impact where the dot is exactly.

@@jamescarolan96 obviously you don't get it. The holographic dot is not fuzzy. The circle dot is not in focus unless you look at the target. The dot is one MOA, one half to one third the size of the red dot. The circle is made up of round pixels. If you look at the reticle instead of the target, you will see those pixels, but if you look at the target it appears to be a nice smooth circle. They are really cool as the reticle always seems painted on the target, no matter the range, like a laser. Red dots on the other hand can seem out of focus at farther ranges, but that's not what they are designed for.

On my home defense AR I have a 12.3” pistol with a Trijicon MRO. I change the battery every year and at 100 yards from prone I’m printing 1.5-2 inch groups. It just works, therefore I leave it alone. I do however need to train more with it and shoot drills and non-prone positional stuff

Important topic. Good video. I think a better way to demonstrate parallax issues is to simply put the rifle in a vise and then move a camera around while looking through it -- the amount of parallax is then the amount you see the aim point moving around. It's a VERY convincing demonstration to people who maybe don't completely understand the theory of parallax.

If there is a black target, hit the button to turn on the red light and the contrast against he black target is just fine. Also, there is a diopter lens that can be adjusted to bring into focus the reticle; it has no effect on the focus of the target just the reticle. I set the brightness brighter than my future , I wouldn’t want that same brightness for when I need it inside my house or else , I’ll get blinded . Good video . But at the end of the day , it’s always depends on your preference. Such like everything in this world .

I run the holosun Acss by primary arms. It's a red dot but it's extremely rugged, accurate, easy to use. I had to use it in an OIS and had to engage at over 120 yards. It was easy with this optic. I do have astigmatism, but with contacts or glasses it's not anything that affects my ability to use the optic unless I have the brightness too high.

Wow, really in depth. Thanks for showing the difference and eliminating the BS about the 3 different types of optics. I'm a civilian who was never enlisted so I've not had a ton of experience with different types, just what I own. I don't have an EOTech or a prism style sight. The Micro Prism with ACSS is on my radar for my AR though since I have a pretty nasty astigmatism in my right eye which is my dominant.

Having used Aimpoints, Trijicons, Eotechs, you name it - I've settled on the Romeo 8T with the Aimpoint T1/T2 a close second. The 8T just has too many features to dismiss for me. Shake awake can be turned off if you want, multiple reticles, clear as shit reticles (helps with astigmatism - eotechs looked like shit to me) sealed emitter, clear glass, reliable tanks, etc. They're just everything I've wanted in an optic and nothing competes currently. The T1/2s are a close second for their simplicity and reliability.

Excellent review. However, the lateral width of either groups has to be taken into consideration that there can sometimes be lateral movement of the rifle no matter how much you think that didn't happen. We all know a degree shift up, down, or to the side can translate into inches down range. And so few rounds fired lends only a high level rudimentary observation rather than an in depth one. Something to consider. Again overall I enjoyed the review of these three types of fixed optics.

My preference is for the prism sights, also available with fixed magnification. Not only do they have shake awake, but you can manually turn them off easily for transport scenarios to conserve battery power. Having an etched reticle is also a big plus in case of battery failure. I think with the etched reticle there's one more data point to eliminate the need for BUIS. With red dot and EOTECH, you loose your battery, you better have BUIS or your out of the fight.

Call me basic, but basically...... It comes down to durability and repeatable quality over a long period of time for me. As good as Aimpoint has treated me, and I do like them, the EOTech gets me on target faster, and more repeatable under stress. But I've also had no issues with them. Same goes for the Big ass Vortex UH1. Another great optic. When milliseconds determines whether you kill or be killed, that's enough for me. GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

I love Holosun, personally. But Primary Arms is a close second for me. I have two 3x ACSS reticle PA optics and that 1x Keeps growing more tempting. About the only reason that I can see for going with Eotech these days is for Night Vision use. They look cool, but they don't make enough of a difference to warrant the price and dated specs. I own several "red dot" sights from Bushnell to Vortex to HOLOSUN. The best (and most expensive) are the HOLOSUN 509T and AEMS circle/dot sights. IMHO they are better than the Aimpoint or Trijicon near-equivalent sights. And Sage Dynamics found they are VERY tough in their brutal drop tests. Best of all the HOLOSUN sights , with many more features than the closest competition, are actually priced significantly lower. IN ITS DAY the EOTECH was the best. No longer, with its large size, weight and battery sucking hologram is nearly obsolete. Then Aimpoint was the best prism "red dot' and Trijicon close behind. NOW HOLOSUN is on top with equal quality and many more very useable features.
@AverageJoe40632 жыл бұрын
Definitely the holographic sights need to catch up. The same could have been said about the prism sights not that long ago, but they are catching up FAST! Hopefully that will push EoTech and Vortex to improve their holographic sights!!!

Holosuns are actually sturdier than EOTechs, they use titanium and aluminum instead of just aluminum like EOTech. They're sealed well, last 50,000 hours instead of 50, and do the same thing a holographic does with a slightly dimmer reticle. You can even use magnifiers on them. They're better, in my opinion.
@thefrogking4813 жыл бұрын
@@RustyShackleford556 No, they are not. Most cheap asses try to make that claim. The eotech, aimpoint or trijicon is a vastly more durable optic.

@@thefrogking481 Nobody said anything about Aimpoint or Trijicon, and yes they are absolutely more durable than a Holosun. The EOTech, however, is about the same durability. The only thing I'd explicitly give the EOTech over the Holosun is that EOTech has better waterproofing.

I honestly believe reticle shape & FOV trade off are the most important factors; before weight. It is a matter of getting the best visual target acquisition & weapon accuracy improvement. Relevant case point being his favoritism to the chevron reticle style; it had the best grouping. His like of the reticle style factored into the accuracy; in my opinion. Take away: find a durable sight that has a reticle style that you like.
