I am a QC microbiologist, bachelors in biology. Entry level positions will center around QC in manufacturing expect 45k-60k. It is a misconception for many science lab jobs to be in research and development. Those occupations require years of experience or higher education of a masters and higher. RnD is usually the end goal for microbiologist/science careers. Quality control and environmental monitoring is the kind of job you will likely obtain with just bachelors education with a lab setting. I made a video about the daily tasks of a QC micro tech making around 45k if anyone is interested. I'm now a microbiologist II with more experience about a lab QA/QC career.

There’s gotta be better opportunities with a bachelors if department of labor says you can earn up to 112,000 if you land a federal job. Median salary on department of labor website is 80K

@@jessemoe727 field is huge, you can do qc micro for food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Entry level is about 45k then averaging about 60k. I got a new job this year entry level at a gene therapy company making 100kish, but I would not have gotten that job without prior experience. Definitely high compensation positions but don't expect to get it right after college. I actually also got an offer at a contract gene therapy place with technically a higher title than I have now, but it wasn't "name brand" and the compensation was around 75k for the micro II role, I live in NY btw.

@@saisree2239 You're a student, but not working in the field? Righttttttt. So what're you gonna be working in a BSL3 or BSL4? Because outside of that "most risky job" I think not. I'd say the doctors and nurses are in a more "risky job" since their dealing with the infected. All you would be dealing with is an agar plate with specimens on it, decked with full PPE gear, in a biosafety cabinet. Yah, "most risky" idk about that.

i'm interested in microbiology, but i'm not sure i want to make it a career, my goal is to do everything i can think of, medical labs, biofuels, and bio engineering yeasts, bacteria, algae, and perhaps fungi, i've realized their importance in waste management as well, and i want to build systems so people can starve the medical sector of money, and make it easier for people to do their own labs, make their own biofuels, and medicines, and with the advent of the 3d printer, i think that might be possible. i've also realized how healthy it is to eat fermented foods, and how easy it is to take an ordinary cabbage, and turn it into something really healthy that could heal someones gut or even prevent sickness.

Eh, a few basics, search out research opportunities. Go to your professors and ask if they know of any going on, research is key if you wanna go further than a bachelors.

If being financially stable is important to you I highly recommend not perusing a career that has anything lab related. Pay is low compared to most other STEM fields. Engineers, Software developers, pharmacists, all make alot more money. If money is a important factor to you it will probably iritate you a couple of years into your career when you're making $55,000 and engineers with the same level of experience are making $90,000.

@@siddhi9402 Yes, microbiologists are always in demand in certain areas of the US. Big cities on the coasts, the Bay Area, CA & areas in North Carolina are two exams. There are opportunities in both government and private industries. I don’t know much about getting work visas from India though. Good luck.
