This is a long video but I’m talking about my timeline, my Reherniation, and clearing up some misconceptions about what can and can not happen with a herniated disc. I’m not a doctor, but the story I tell has been relayed to me by all 4 surgeons I interviewed before my first surgery, I believe in a balance between western medicine and holistic/alternative therapies. But at the end of the day I’m a realist. #spinesurgery #microdiscectomy #microdiscectomyrecovery #L5S1 #nervepain

I had a lumbar discectomy on August 7th 2017. 1 week later the surgery failed. The pain was like nothing Ive ever experienced. Second surgery was performed September 7th 2017. This one worked. I hope no one here will ever have this happen to them. The surgeon did nothing wrong. There is always a small chance this could happen and it happened to me. Please everyone, dont give up. Things will get better.

Thank you! Recovering from microdisectomy a bit over one week out right now, and hoping I haven't already reinjured it. Very helpful just to hear another person going through this type of thing. It's been very lonely and people are so opinionated on how to care for this that I didn't tell most people until after I had it. I had multiple pieces of disc that had been there so long they were calcified. I also have stenosis, in my lumbar and cervical spine, and have been dealing with nerve pain in my neck since 2020. I look forward to checking out more of your videos. I feel less alone and hopeful even if I need more treatment and can't go back to work yet as planned.

Love how you described, I have a “small disc herniation” but it hurts like crazy. The muscle spasms are terrible, the nerve pain is terrible, I’m thinking goodness gracious, for it being small it sure hurts terribly. My spine doctor said we need to wait it out, wants me to do physical therapy and an epidural spine injection only helped for about three weeks.

Im Crying watching this ....... I'm in the UK and have been suffering with lower back pain and sciatica ...... I can't afford scan so I've never had 100 percent diagnosis.....I have been told by osteopath, physiotherapist and chiropractor that it's either herniated disc or bulging. I get relief with physiotherapy but every 4/5 months it goes again . .. I'm floored currently...... on naproxen, cocodamol and diazepam .... its not even helping .. I feel like no one understands unless you have experienced it. I've subscribed to your page ....... I hope we all get relief 🙏

I never healed from my microdiscectomy. First MRI showed the herniation cut off about 50% of the nerve on the right side. Surgery cut the pain in half at least, but the second MRI shows a reherniation a little closer to the middle about the same size as the first. They also pointed out I'm not retaining any fluid in my l4l5 or my l5s1 discs. Cortisone will help with inflammation. But it doesn't do anything about the disc. But it can help you heal apparently by allowing bloodflow and nutrients. The physical therapy was a fing joke and nerve slides are hell.

I just got my second microdiscectomy L5-S1 yesterday 6/29/2022 , my first was C6-C7 in 2014 ..... you are supposed to wait 3 months to start bending lifting twisting for L5-S1. I fear reherniation of L5-S. I found out immediately low standing furniture sucks and a more firm mattress is key instead of a low dropping worn out bed thats like 20 years old

I had L5-S1 disc herniation as well. I put up with it for 2 years before doing the surgery last week. So far the nerve pain is gone but I am worried about re-herniation.

Hi hun im just coming across your video. I can somewhat relate to how you felt i dont want to say pain because thru out this whole process I've been compared to ppls pain etc it furiates me. I've been dealing with my back pain (herniated buldging disc) since 2012. Now its so bad its hard for me to keep up with my hygiene and i feel disgusted and a spiral of many other emotions. I'm 37 now i have 3 kids under the age of 18yrs old. I want my life back i want to be out with my kids and out of the house. I've been told I'm too young for back surgery. I did have 2knee surgeries in 2015 but for so long now my back prevents me from so much. I don't go to certain places or events because i know if the outcome and i dont want to be a burden on anyone else. I have not had cortisone shots in my back my old ortho surgeon that did my knees said he thinks if it didn't help my knee he doesnt think it'll help my back. I did have it done once before my knee surgery and i had relief maybe 2 or 3 days but it was no more then that. I changed drs last month because no one is listening to me even tho my mri says what it says they just say i need to lose weight. I told my last dr that i need to be reffered to a neosurgeon she told me an orthopedic surgeon is the same thing... never reffered me.. yeah the ortho was a dick and said he had what i have and has no pain. Awesome good for you. So i guess i see new dr the end of this month but i know its bad when im scared and not looking foward to the shower cuz how bad my back pain is now. I'm literally holding on to the sides and the railings and trying not to fall my sciatica is really bad now too where my knees and legs feel weeker its scary

I had the knife in the butt pain for three years. No boating, camping, walks or even visiting friends. Year four came the spasms until I ended up in ER and had surgery. And those three years I tried physical therapy, Chiropractor, acupuncture of pain injections. Three weeks out from surgery and pain is returning 😢

Hey! Thank you for sharing! I just got my surgery 8 days ago on my L4-L5 and I am really paranoid about reherniation especially since there is still sciatic pain like before the surgery and I’m scared I might have turned on my bed wrong during the last week even as I have been predominantly resting. I want to ask, if I am not intruding, what was the sensation of reherniation? Like what level of pain is a good tell for it? Also, about how long after the initial surgery were you sciatic pain free and were you ever able to bend your back without nerve pain at some point after the surgery? Sorry for the many questions and glad to see from your replies on the other comments that you are feeling better!

@@neurolover8889 I've heard a lot of people talk about this, after the op, the sciatic pain comes and goes because it's been compressed for so long. I haven't had the surgery but I been watching a lot of videos of people talking about it this post op and they say it gets better. How is it, has it gotten better with the pain ?

i’ve just had the surgery 7 days ago and i’ve been told nerve pain is normal after it as nerves are the slowest to heal as it receives the least blood flow, keep walking and you’ll be alright, i’m also still having nerve pain

Hi, I had the same surgery as you about 4 months ago. I understand all the explanation you are giving in this video and I agree 100% on all you said. I have a question for you: Do you think that the shell opening of the disk can heal and close completely after a microdisectomy? I'm asking you because I had 4 months doing nothing, just resting (Whaiting for that disk opening to heal)... and I want to start training hard again. I'm a former crossfitter and my doctor said that I should be able to do crossfit again after 6 months of resting and physical therapy. I'm working out now very light at the gym, doing a lot of core exercises, all this with the willing to be strong at my back to get into Crossfit again. Hope to hear about your opinion and your full recovery! Regards

Rafael Augusto Fernández Cruz glad to hear you are motivated! I understand that it does some healing, but I’m not sure if it heals itself shut or not. That would be a question for the surgeon! I would be interested to know the answer. Good luck, and know that it takes one. I’m 18 months out now and finally getting back to the level of activity I was at prior to my injury. Happy healing!

@@megant3530i asked my surgeon this and he said there’s no way its healing back to how it was 💯. The chances of ppl getting it back though is low like %6. Also, if you’re young it’s faster to heal it. That’s all the info about the annulus fibrosis.

Depending on the severity it may not need to be operated on. I decided not to go for the second surgery and all sensation went away on its own, despite the size being the same! It took about 4 months, and I worked on my PT often, but I’m glad I waited. The deciding factor was: I didn’t feel disabled the second time around, it was “just” pain...which sucked, but I could still walk and cook, and work. The first time I couldn’t walk across a room, I couldn’t stand up straight, I had a handicap tag on my car and had to ride the shopping cart around. That’s why I decided to wait. I hope you find relief whatever path you choose❤️
