I love this micro series, the hidden world of this species is really atractive.

It is way more interesting than I thought it would be. I bought some micro tackle just so I could catch some of the little sunfish we have up here in North Florida that I didn't even know existed.

Thanks. I love the diversity in all the different fishes around the world. Our would has so much beauty out there that so many people never see.

That's awesome! Which species are you looking for? I've caught some banded sunfish and bluespotted sunfish up in northern Florida. They're a neat genus.

@@Steve-ev6vx Oh that's awesome. I targeted them once near Tallahassee, but I struck out. I know they were there, just so hard to get them on a hook.

I recwntly got into BFS fishing but this is whole nother ballpark here. As a fellow fishing youtuber you sir have gained my subscription.

Thanks. Some fish species just don't get big enough to catch by traditional fishing means. I've never used BFS, but I do love doing some ultralight fishing for bluegills.

Spent a bit of time in FL in around 14/15 but wasn't into micro fishing then, this video is making me wanna head back with the tanago's! I fished a similar area to this, Myakka park.

I envision Florida being a vast marshy wetland such as you see there.
@Steve-ev6vx2 ай бұрын
I live in the northwest part of Florida and it is mostly rolling hills with pine trees until you get near a river or creek, then it gets swampy.
@rae76932 ай бұрын
southern Florida is more of a marshy expanse, but northern Florida has some amazing wetlands as well!

Almost all of Florida (south of Orlando) looked like this originally. Humans have changed it a bit, but you can still find places like this out there.

I thought you were going to be in a world of hurt when you mentioned that almost 1 lb. Mayan cichlid! I was imagining it rushing in and destroying that micro outfit... or at least spooling you. 🙂 Also you mentioned Nile cichlids... were they small? I've been catching a lot more of them over here in Lehigh Acres (SW Fl) in the past year, and some have been decent sized. (a lb. or more) Guess they are getting established over here.
@TheFishingNomad2 ай бұрын
Thankfully I was able to keep the cichlids off of the hook. In this spot the Nile tilapia were on the medium size. They were probably a bit under a pound, but might've been a pound. In the Fort Lauderdale area I've seen and caught a couple well over two pounds.

Love the videos. What chart do you use to identify the fish?
@TheFishingNomad2 ай бұрын
That completely depends on where I am and what body of water I'm fishing. I've got a small library of about 15-20 books for fish identification. Check out this link for the best book for freshwater fishes in Florida: amzn.to/40e6cdr

Hint, a cast net would get every species in a couple casts? LOL

True, but my goal is to catch them on hook and line. That's something I can't do with a cast net.
