Microfogger 5 pro any good??

Hey folks back with another video where we take a look at the latest handheld small portable smoke machine the micro fogger 5 pro, watch and find out why I can't recommend this product even though I wanted to so much, I show you alternatives around the same price point so if your looking for a smoke machine this video is worth a watch.

Hello Barry, thank you for the feedback, we just wanted to address a few things! As mentioned in the manual, we always recommend keeping the fan setting to full, and we describe that reducing the setting to the minimum level will cause poor performance. This setting was specifically left in to allow some of our airflow testing customers to produce very slight puffs of smoke and we suggest not changing it unless you know what you are doing. We will go ahead and remove the lowest power setting for future software versions, as you suggest. It seems like the rest of your review was then affected by this initial setting change as the MicroFogger 5’s output is about 2-3 times that of the MicroFogger 2. Please conduct the Q-tip cleaning procedure which takes a second, and you will see that the output is significantly greater, and there is no spitting effect. The MicroFogger 5 will also display the tank temperature on the middle bar, and will take 3-4 bursts to unlock the full power level which will be indicated by the top two bars becoming filled in. We think this will greatly change your experience, and you can see its full output on the many other video reviews on KZbin. Additionally, some of the biggest improvements in the MicroFogger 5 can be found in the advanced setting menu of the software, where you can configure automatic timers, loops and delays as well as set rc channels. We really do believe that the MicroFogger 5 is a great improvement, and this is resonated by all of the customers we’ve spoken to so we really think that with just the Q-tip cleaning procedure detailed in the manual, your experience can be completely different! Thanks for the information, unfortunately after our email I did follow Q-tip cleaning procedure and that was the result maybe that could be down to a faulty part perhaps? I think the process should be simplified having users follow all these recommended settings is not necessary a simple low medium and high setting which would work at every setting would be enough and be a better user experience. The removal of a 1/4 thread also wasn’t a good move in the studio/outside you need to attach it so you can place it specifically where you need it, and with this being a pro version it would of been very useful to be able to attach the units together in a group which would allow for a greater amount of smoke outside being controlled from the remote in the same group, you could actually make an accessory which would allow this but this would mean more stuff to carry around so designing a unit to be able to do this would be a good move. Like I mentioned in the video the battery charging time isn’t great either it’s a real shame this wasn’t better, I understand you can now replace them but they take to long to charge for a pro version. I still feel the quality after 4 and a half years isn’t the best compared to others on the market, 3d printing is great but as a sellable product competing with others that would need to be improved although I have had no issues with my fogger 2 being 3d printed aesthetically it would be a step forward. I appreciate the advancements have come in the menu system. My review of this unit was very much affected by the user experience and the spitting of oil which like I mentioned hasn’t occurred during my time using the microfogger 2 which is a great unit by the way and also a great comparison starting point. I do believe the 5 version falls short of being a pro model because of the issues mentioned that’s just my opinion and an honest review for my viewers and as I said at the end of the video it will do the job you need it to. You guys set the standard back when no one was making a small battery operated hand held smoke machine at a great price point and I personally applaud that as it’s been an invaluable tool in my photography.

@@BarryMountford Thanks for the response, but we still think you will have a very different experience if we can get this resolved for you, as everyone else who has tested this unit, including MicroFogger 2 owners, has been extremely happy. Please try the following: -Unscrew the fluid tank from the MicroFogger, run it for few seconds (at full pump power) to ensure that any liquid that may have made its way into the airflow port is ejected. -Place a fresh Qtip into the barrel of the fluid tank, twist it clockwise while gently pushing it further in until it bottoms out -Twist it a few more times, remove, and repeat this again with the second end of the Qtip -Install tank back onto the MicroFogger and run at full power for a few seconds. If you observe any spitting, repeat this procedure. -Once the MicroFogger comes up to temperature (as indicated on the middle bar), the output will be 2-3 times that of the MicroFogger 2. We really wish you could have shown this in your review, as that is the normal operating performance. This should resolve the issue, and we think you will then be able to really see the performance improvements of the MicroFogger 5. So far, out of the countless units we have sold, this is the only overwhelmingly negative review we've had, even though we've spoken to countless customers and reviewers. We really want to figure this out for you, as this feedback about the output is not something we can act upon yet, since it looks like it may just be due to improper operation here. Regarding your other feedback, I've already spoken to the engineering team and we will be increasing the charging speed by a factor of 2 or 3, and will do our best to implement a tripod mount into the device. These changes will be made in the coming months, and will be standard on all MicroFogger 5 Pros going forwards.

@Vosentech thanks I will repeat that procedure once again and see if that helps, does this mean this a procedure which will have to be followed regularly? I did notice that Patricks review at Fstoppers had two units which he had been using for a while and one of the units had similar issues to mine when he came to do the review although he doesn’t go into detail much , could this be a common problem? Or should users regularly follow that procedure to ensure the unit runs correctly ? I certainly don’t want to come across negative as that’s not my nature and I have enjoyed using the fogger 2 over the years however user experience is the first thing I look for and so far this hasn’t been the best unfortunately and I’ve tried to make the feedback as constructive as possible, having the micro fogger 2 to compare it against is great as that was a fantastic unit and the differences over the 4.5 years aren’t really huge in my opinion 1. Build quality is still the same 2.battery charge the same even though it’s now usbc 3. No 1/4 thread and the improvements, 1.lcd display with menu for more control of the unit (which is great) , 2.replaceable battery 3.larger reservoir 4. multi colour led attachment. Personally I would of liked to of seen way better charge time ( which I know you are looking at now ) and just as a product better quality ( not 3d printed) after this length of time, that coupled with the very useful menu system would very much rounded this unit off very well indeed, it’s unfortunate that I have been the only one to have any issues with it and I sincerely hope it’s very successful product as I have been a fan of the micro fogger since I first bought mine sadly the pro 5 just didn’t meet my expectations.

@@BarryMountford Of course, we genuinely appreciate negative feedback as it helps us improve our products! Please try the procedure again, we think you'll have a great experience after that. This only needs to be repeated after refilling the tank, or after a long period of storage if it starts expelling liquid. Otherwise, you don't need to do it often. I think in your case, it was a lot more severe because you first flooded the heating coil chamber by running it at the lowest pump power setting, which created a knock-on effect with the other frustrations you had. We have no intention of changing to a non-3D printed design at this time, as this is the only thing that allows for such a small size, while still retaining the features it has. It does, however, use a far more robust material than the MicroFogger 2. Please let us know if the Qtip procedure detailed above does not resolve all of the issues!

Hi, I read both parties replies and checked out other KZbin videos and contacted my Building science trades that do blower door testing for home performance. I’m looking for newbie friendly smoker for my employees that can be quick and easy use for finding air leaks in the homes. It seems like it’s more technical and has to many options that can cause one of my team members to get it out of programming. I know it can be user fault but hope someone could give me confidence on this product to purchase it.

Hi Ivan, yes it solved the issue I showed in the video however it’s definitely not recommended to use the low settings as discussed as it did reoccur when I tried them again so I would recommend removing the low settings which are causing the issue.

@@BarryMountford Hello Barry, that is good to hear. I think it really comes down to miscommunication, since using the low power setting is never advised, as per the manual. We will go ahead and remove the lowest power setting in the next software update. It is a shame that we resolved this only after the video has already been published, as we really wish you would have been able to try the MicroFogger when it is performing at its best. Would you consider doing a re-review? We now have our more affordable MicroFogger 5 Lite available as well, so could send you that to try too!

@@Vosentech Hi Ivan I disagree Iam afraid there has been no miscommunication, I stand by what a said in my review of the product and it was right to hi light the issue, I see this as a temporary fix to a problem that still exists in the unit, like I said in the video if it’s not recommended to use at those settings then those settings shouldn’t be available in the first place it just doesn’t make sense having those settings available when the product is shipped? It’s great that a software update will remove this but will customers who have already purchased the fogger be able to update their machine? Appreciate the offer to review your cheaper model but I will pass on that all the same good luck with it all Ivan.
