How long are they? You may be able to do Bantu knots instead which are very similar

Why do u have to protective style for locs??

Everyone has different philosophies on it, but use protective styles to prevent a ton of manipulation and protects my ends/hair from the elements. For example, in colder months, it's better (for me) keep my hair in braids because my hair retains moisture better than it would if my locs were down and fully exposed.
