I had a knot in one of my locs and the LOCTICIAN cut and trimmed it. Not sure if that was the right thing to do, only time will tell I’m sure😩

For me locs are more manageable.... I use to sit for hours to get micro twist them in about 6 weeks to 2 months I have to detangle them... I'm over that.. I love my locs...

I use all the same products as Damian Walter as far as washing. I even use his loc wash. For styling I go Yannies way and use rose water and oil to moisturize. Honestly the combination of both work for me. As far as color I just don't plus I love my black hair. Great video and your locs are beautiful.

I'm still trying to find the perfect balance between the two methods. Sometimes it's difficult to know what my hair wants but I agree! If you can figure out how to combine them perfectly, your locs will flourish

Are you using a comb to twirl them tighter first? I’m asking bc I can’t get to my loctician and that’s what she does first ....
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
I personally don't use a comb at all when retightening. I know some locticians do though to prevent holes

At what point did you start brushing your locs? I’m 14 months into my journey and I started having lint buildup on the locs at my nape. Seems like a brilliant idea but I’m not sure if it’s too soon to do because my hair isn’t fully locked yet.
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
Hi! It depends on how loose your hair is, I'm surprised that at 14 months you aren't loc'd yet, but you should be able to gently brush the areas where you see lint without completely undoing your locs. Just be very gentle.

Question, do you when braiding and banding, pull out the braids to let it air dry or do you leave the braids in for it to dry themselves? Also, did you hair fully dry before you started to put in the oils?
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
I used to band and braid my hair before washing, the first six months of having locs. I don't do it anymore but I definitely would take the braids out to let them dry. Otherwise they won't dry thoroughly and could result in molding over time. And no, I always oil my hair when it's damp! After I've used a t shirt to get rid of the excess water. I don't even put oil in my hair when it's dry.

Why do u have to protective style for locs??
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
Everyone has different philosophies on it, but use protective styles to prevent a ton of manipulation and protects my ends/hair from the elements. For example, in colder months, it's better (for me) keep my hair in braids because my hair retains moisture better than it would if my locs were down and fully exposed.

When you retighten, do you wash first and then retighten or do you retighten first and then wash? Also, would a microfiber towel be ok? Love your videos! Thanks!
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
I always wash my hair before I retighten, you want to do it with clean hair 😁. Plus when your hair is damp it's a lot easier to manipulate and separate the locs. I think a microfiber towel is fine! I actually use an old t-shirt lol

What size parts did you do when you started out? Also, I love your voice. 🙂
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
I tried to get as close to sisterlocks "sizing" as possible without feeling like they were so small they'd break off. I'm not sure how best to answer this, but my parts are anywhere from the size of the tip of my pinky (around the edges and center of my head) to half that size (near the nape and ears). Hope that makes sense! And thank you! 💕 I encourage you to check out my Up Close and Personal video also. It's pretty much a 360 of my locs.

@parishenry45864 жыл бұрын
The one mistake I made was not really putting much thought into getting my parts really straight. The back of my head is okay but it’s not super perfect like the front is. It’s growing on me everyday since I’m committed and not going to take them down since I’m 5 months in lol . I just say it gives my Locs personality 😂 I agree with you on the loc envy. You were my inspiration when I first started researching the look I wanted because it’s closest to sister locks. I’ve never been so fixated on having mine look exactly like anyone else’s because I know all hair is different. But I love your videos & your Locs are gorgeous! I hope your wedding is everything you dream it will be 💜🖤
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!! 💕💕 And yes, locs with personality are the best!! Mine have so many quirks, but they're unique to me and that makes them even better.
@soliloquylove21154 жыл бұрын
Hi! What is the purpose of using protective styles for locs? I understand it's needed for loose hair to avoid manipulation. Is it to extend the time between re-tightenings?
@ElleKeen4 жыл бұрын
To prevent a ton of manipulation is definitely a big part of it, but protective styling also protects your ends and your hair from the elements. So like I mentioned in my video, in colder months, it's better to keep my hair in braids because my hair retains moisture better than it would if my locs were down and fully exposed.
