Sadly one of the nicest people you could ever meet who was a legend in the microphone industry passed away earlier this year. Bob Heil silent key K9EID. His granddaughter got his callsign as a vanity call. All Hail the Heil microphone. 73

The D104 roshet salt crystal condenser microphone is still a extremely popular microphone. The later D104 ceramic microphone was also a mass produced cartridge but lacked the "smoothness" of the original crystal cartridge.

Forgot the crystal or ceramic mike. That uses a piezoelectric element to generate voltage from sound pressure waves. Much cheaper to assemble than dynamic mikes. Frequency response may be wise but contain peaks and dips.
