Adam, “regression to the mean” is a statistical concept (like academia statistics, not hockey statistics) and, when something is far from the mean, regression to the mean reduces the difference between the test statistic and the mean. Whether the test statistic increases or decreases is irrelevant because the absolute value of the difference will always decrease as the test statistic approaches the mean, thus regression is the correct term Suck it, language nerd. The math nerds still own you
@philip_1716 күн бұрын
Also, the "re" prefix in regression doesn't mean "down" but "back", so regression in this context just means "going back" which makes a lot of sense😂

6:55 Adam is right, not Jesse. The guys didn’t realize that it is possible to have an ODD number. For example: it’s possible for 3 brothers A,B,C to be part of it, if A plays with B, and at some point also plays C
@mitchsmith747216 күн бұрын
That wasn't the issue. They didn't know if it was 47 pairs OR 47 brothers
@hermeticGreen16 күн бұрын
@ not quite - when Adam re-read the statement to see if it implied anything about pairs, Jesse (seemingly) let it go since it really didn’t seem to imply pairs. But a little before that, one of them said it shouldn’t be possible to have an ODD number if it wasn’t stated in terms of pairs - and that’s what my comment was addressing

While it might not be the idea behind the quote, at least 4 trios of brothers _have_ played together. The Bentleys, the Plagers, the Stastnys and the Staals (Eric, Jordan and Jared). Interestingly, though three Sutters played for both the Blues and the Hawks, at no point did three of them play on the same team.

Mitch's best stretch of hockey was after he got back from injury in matthews' first 60 goal season. He was a scoring demon in that 2nd half, while still setting matthews up. He was scoring at a 48 goal pace that 2nd half and almost got to 40 any way despite the missing games. He was legit threat alongside matthews.

@sdpn to answer your question about Berube, the a Blues rarely went 11/7 during the latter part of his tenure in Saint Louis. However, back when the blue line had the likes of: Petro, Dunn, Parayko, Krug, Bouwmiester, Faulk, and guys like Bortuzzo and Gunnarson were press box options, they would run 11/7. Once Petro left, and they tried to replace him by committee, the blue line was a bit erratic, whereas forwards were still pretty deep

I know steve worked with them so it’s easy to give them the benefit of the doubt when they’re your buddies but part of my problem with the broadcast after the knies hit is that they were so desperate to stick up for the league that they just straight up tried to gaslight everyone?? two of them literally claimed whitecloud never left his feet as if there wasn’t video evidence that he did
@kylecalvert454915 күн бұрын
The difference is you CAN leave your feet after you make contact, not before The latter happened
@katie348115 күн бұрын
@ yes I understand that, what I’m saying was frustrating was that instead of having the actual explanation, they rushed to stick up for the decision by making the assertion that he didn’t leave his feet AT ALL like there wasn’t an actual video showing he had.
@peacebringer815 күн бұрын
I still think Whitecloud DID propel himself with upwards force that could be avoided and Knies' head was the main point of contact and absorption of the hit. You can clearly see Knies's head go WAY back BEFORE his body responds. Of course his whole body would follow, it is a hit from the front. But if what the League is saying is that as long as you hit someone from the front, you're allowed Head contact, let's see how this will be handled moving forward.

This seems like it was aimed at Sportsnet principally due to the edit specifying primary contact vs main contact. The video of the hit has the play-by-play or color guy say principle point 2 or 3 time. Its was also said in either the intermission or post game coverage. There would be less confusion if rules that are reported on were done so accurately, which is a wider issue on the broadcasting side than just at Sportsnet. If they are going to discuss a rule someone on the broadcast should make sure the the correct language is used and make corrections when wrong or in this case outdated language is used. I'm in the US so also not sure if Sportsnet went back and made that clarification later on.
