Yeah, exactly this. The Dell Venue 8 was probably the best known 8" Windows tablet when it launched, but Dell don't sell anything that small now. Even Microsoft's own Surface Go's screen has grown from its initial 10". Full fat Windows apps just aren't designed for screens that small, hence we got touch-friendly UWP apps... which did the same things Android apps did only worse. Apple's getting closer to perfecting the iPad as a 1-for-all solution, but even with that M1-chip in their Pro models, they still left out some features that would have made the iPad a fully fledged, smaller, lighter laptop. I have been thinking so much about that. All they had to do is plan for it during the development and not after thought. Design the motherboard such that that space for the camera inside the frame is deliberate. I bet they can find a spot for a smaller pen design like those of galaxy notes. I think once AMD's NUVIA arm SoC comes out, a Windows Os version of DUO should be very practical and they MUST use USB4

I don't understand why some big companies sometimes lack the ability to make the right decision. Why can't Microsoft just decide to use the Windows operating system for their Duo 2? It makes no sense to use Android when you can use windows and make this duo 2 a portal computer.

Windows Phone... didn't exactly go so well though. If Microsoft had stuck with Windows Mobile and made improvements maybe things would have been different, but now in 2021 it really doesn't make sense for Microsoft to have yet another crack at the phone market, in software terms. Remember, Android apps are coming to Windows 11 so you will get interoperability on that front. As for whether it would sell, the Dell Venue 8 was probably the best known 8" Windows tablet when it launched, but Dell don't sell anything that small now. Even Microsoft's own Surface Go's screen has grown from its initial 10". Full fat Windows apps just aren't designed for screens that small, hence we got touch-friendly UWP apps... which did the same things Android apps did only worse. Outside of specialist devices like the GPD or Steam Deck, I don't see small screened Windows devices making a comeback.

MS has all the tools to make Windows work on ARM and on devices like these. Windows 10 on phones and Windows Phone 8 had a good things going for it but MS botched it and then dropped the ball with it. MS Office suite on Windows Phones was way behind Android and iOs apps and that's the first party app! Notifications were a nightmare on Windows phone devices and they never did work properly and settings on Widows Phone 8 was just menu with random items. It did get better with Windows 10 but a lot of phones were cut from support even if they had performance to support it. I do agree that MS Duo 2 is being held back by android since windows already has wonderful multiscreen support and yes the lack of outside screen makes that more like foldable tablet rather than foldable phone.

Agree with Jerrys comments here, Microsoft should never have shelved windows mobile. It is by far the best mobile operating system even by today's standard despite the fact they haven't worked on it for a while. Android and iOS use similar kernel design so they are kinda alike in ways. Windows wasn't and Microsoft had an amazing team during its time, best cameras, smooth phones even on 512mb ram and imo the best user interface for a phone, app tiles were so good and intuitive, None of this boring app icons bullshit. The app problem would have been solved now with their appstore solution that's just out for windows 11. Just port it into the mobile.

If Qualcomm can actually come out with a M1 competitor and Microsoft can manage to put into a Duo 3, I can't see why we can't have a windows 11 mobile Duo in the future. I'd upgrade to something like that.

@alfredsoyemi64253 жыл бұрын
I see his statement not so much as blaming Android, but stating the short comings of Android for any foldable mobile device in general. Think about it, why did Android started the development of 12L? They knew foldable will not be successful on current Android design. I think Android 12L is the beginning of robust Os design for foldables such OEM can just do HW, skin the Os, but let the Os do all the heavy lifting that will make foldable do good stuff and solve problems that single screen Phones can not do. All current foldable phone manufacturing are doing independent codes additions to show what foldable can do which might not help Android Os in terms of fragmentation. Let the Os direct and standardize the best use and features for foldables and OEM can add there own values and extras.

I think this would be abysmal with Windows 11. It would however work perfectly well with Linux. Even Microsoft realizes Linux is a lot more usable when you don't have a huge amount of processing power and/or memory (or just want to run thing efficiently in general).
