Couple of things. On the approach plate you will see a point called the Initial Approach Fix (IAF). You hit the approach mode on the AP as you're tracking on that last leg to the IAF. Also, you should have the aircraft fully configured and stable before you reach the IAF (that means gear down, all the flap down that you're electing to land with and on speed).

A couple of corrections, you do NOT need the aircraft to be fully configured at IAF. Most (if not all) airline SOPs require you to be fully confiqured with all the necessary checklists completed latest 1000 ft AGL, not at the IAF. Some airports such as RJTT (Haneda, HND), has an IAF waypoint called ARLON for the ILS Z 34L which has an altitude of 5000 ft 19 DME out from the threshold. If you're fully configured at this altitude and distance, ATC and company will shout at you. Also, some airports (WSSS) if you look at their ILS approach charts, they even specify to be at 180 kts at 8DME, and 150 kts at 4 DME. You won't fulfill this speed control if you're fully configured (flaps full, gear down) at the IAF which is at about 10.5 DME. You only will need to be full configured at 1000 ft AGL latest.

I just got the LVFR a340-300 and I love it. The ILS works just as nice as the a320. I don’t get all the hate, yes it’s not study level. But not everyone wants buttons that we will never use. I have a PMDG if I want study level. Love the ease of use with Airbus jets.

If you dont disconnect the AP, it will land itself with flare and disconnect it on the ground (Normally AP2 but thats a bug and it works with AP1)

Great vid. Thanks. I've been fiddling around not knowing nothing.. much,. Managed to get in the air but couldn't do the intended ILS landing. so, watched your vid eagerly but couldn't quite 'see' what you did to set up the landing. My MFS didn't show the ILS frequency as in yours. That could be an obvious reason. Further, I didn't know how to bring down the ALT from 5000 ft as well. Think I've picked up that part now. Lot's of fiddly things to learn but may I say you are so 'fast' that it's a bit difficult to follow exactly which button you pushed. Is it possible to edit your vid to slow down a bit and show exactly which buttons to push? e.g. ILS or a NAV button. Didn't see you push those. Got too long. Sorry.

I guess I'm looking for the beginner tutorial that shows you how to to set up the radio for the runway your looking for and where to find that info. Not just a mention of navi...whatever it's called and assuming the radio is already set up?? You know, the stuff a beginner would actually need to know to set up. This is more like "watch me do it" than a tutorial.

You can learn to do it all manual using flight computer or you can pre program it all easily when setting up the flight. When you select arrival airport there a drop down tab look for ILS then it pre programmes it all for you.

If you are not using Atc look at your flight director there is a little white arrow called top of decent put plane into the hight you need to drop too normally between 2500 and 4000 for the localizers and the plane will have you down on time like I said in the video for practise don't worry about coming in slow and long until late you get used to it

Look at your estimated time enroute (ETE). Subtract airport elevation from current altitude ( airport elevation rounded to the nearest thousand for simplicity). Divide altitude needed to lose by the time. So, 14,000 feet to lose and 7 minutes out = 2000 feet per minute to hit the altitude you want to be at over the airport/fix.

The easiest way to know how far out to start descending: Take the first two digits of your flight level/altitude and multiply it by 3, then add 10 more miles to compensate for the time it takes to deaccelerate. 10000ft = 30 miles 20000ft = 60 miles 30000ft = 90 miles Your vertical speed should be 5 times your Ground Speed. That will glide you down on a 3 degree descent. 150 = 750ft/m 200 = 1000ft/m 300 = 1500ft/m 400 = 2000ft/m 500 = 2500ft/m

So if your using Atc for some reason they are not getting you low enough for the glide slop I use navigraphs for the charts and find out where I need to be an d ignore Atc and get down nice and early.. soon as you realise you won't hit glide slope I manually take over and bring nose down but watch your speed get nice and slow airbus can handle 139nts and look for the glide light 2 red 2 white

Disable the ATC. It's a total nightmare and just leaves you stressed, plus it makes you do stupid things and doesn't help you afterwards. I'm being told to climb to FL140 one second, and literally five seconds later they're expecting me at 2500ft heading in the opposite direction.

Great tutorial mate. Is it necessary to turn off AP and auto throttle whilse coming down? I've left them on and the plane lands fine. All I do is turn on the flaps, auto brakes, gear and flare. But I did have an issue where the horizontal glide slope diamond was a bit off so I had to steer a bit to level it. A bit of an awkward landing but somewhat successful lol. Any idea what I did wrong?

He no you can let it bring you all the way down but that's why I don't some of the airports don't line up as well as they should yet I like to from 1000 ft out take over and bring it to just to give me time to make corrections if they are needed. Your doing nothing ring just sim functions aren't 100 percent yet

So if you keep auto throttle on when you come into land the plane will continue that speed and you would not be able to stop. You have disconnect both

@@InsideAgameR Thanks, so for my understanding if I did leave auto throttle on and set at 140 but turned AP off, I could make pitch and roll adjustments to manually stay on the glide slope, and if I had to pitch forwards it would automatically reduce throttle, and if I pitch up it would increase throttle to maintain the set speed? As this sounds like a useful halfway house to practice holding the glide slope and adding manual throttle later, I use the TWCS throttle and find its sticky and difficult to make fine adjustments. I am out all day but will be testing this out tonight Edit: remembering of course to disable auto throttle at the end

I do get ILS when I choose an actual airport as my origin. Then if I want to skip ahead to the approach, I can use the Travel To menu to do that, and voila: ILS is available. the airspeed is from navi graph? or is a standard?

Fmc on these planes will bring you in at the correct speeds all the way to the ground but I fly irl as well as on vatsim it can change etc under 10000 250 max approach speed usually 190 ish then land speed on finals around 131 up to 140 depending on winds etc

thx for the vid. unfortunately i never ever get to capture g/s. loc is no problem, the plane aligns with centreline. g/s shows up in blue early on but then diappears when u'm about to intercept it and i continue at altitude. any ideas?

Hello and thanks well a few things to consider are you using Atc if so don't they don't seem to bring you down early enough for the glide slope. Also do you have access to any chart data? Are you on discord I give alot help there and always active

I think this tutorial suffers from a classic tutorial trope, where they don't show you how to do the thing before they start. For example NaviGraph. Also the input into the MCDU/FMGC is not fully explained as to why this is needed and where the numbers come from.

well i use pilot 2 atc now but only thing you can do in settings turn there volume to zero now havent checked since new update

@@InsideAgameR will do thanks. I have another issue. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. When I'm about to touchdown, I pull the throttle back but the front of the plane starts to nose dive a bit which causes the front wheel to smash first into the ground.

Everything is relative. When flying an A320 the tutor has to presume you know quite a bit already.

Zorg dat je de autobrakes van tevoren hebt ingesteld. Met de airbrakes (linker hendel naast de throttle) rem je met de vleugels. Zet je throttle ook in reverse voor maximale rem kracht
