You are absolutely correct in your observation that the weak point of the Track IR is the flimsy head piece that holds the three IR lamps themselves. I've been through 3, one of which TrackIR re-placed for free. They charge $50 for a replacement which is 1/3 the price of the whole system. Last time I took a chance and bought a replacement piece from Amazon or Ebay and cost $25.They work great and are much sturdier, though the mounting system still leaves something to be desired.

I was so excited when I got my trackir a couple of years back. Set it all up, configured it, ran euro truck simulator 2, and found I positively *hated it*. Discovered that I move around in my chair pretty much constantly when I game, shifting left and right, resting on one arm rest then the other, moving forward and back etc. Never really noticed it before. So my view was constantly bouncing around and drove me frickin' nuts. It made me sit like a rock in my chair, completely still, and totally uncomfortable. No amount of tweaking settings would work for me. So it sits on my shelf untouched now for years, gathering dust. I highly recommend folks try before you buy. Or start with the cheap options, in case it bothers you.

Hi Shane, I just purchased TrackIR 5 a couple of weeks ago. I’ve lost two units now due to thunderstorms in the area. I now disconnect the device if I suspect storms in the area. The last one TrackIR 4 lasted over 10yrs, which isn’t bad. I’m impressed with version 5 - better resolution and works very well with MSFS. MSFS had issues initially with TrackIR (screens jumping around when paused) but it is very good now. On the sensitivity, I had it set to -50 and found that the latest patch allowed me to remove all sensitivity. I’ve only tested the Cirrus and Baron at the moment.

In a high wing before entering the runway we do an "S turn" on the taxiway so you can see each end o the field. Also if you use the SDK tools you can reduce the Height (scale ) of the vegetation. I found this out when removing trees from some local bush strips

Did build and using the EdTracker based on an accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer (same thing you have in your phone) and loving it. Tried camera with face recognition and Accela shape on a hat (not good in the dark when I do my sim), Did my own TrackIR equivalent (latency issue which do not exist with EdTracker). So the winner of all my testing is definitively EdTracker - just my opinion as we are all different.

I also like the hat clip much better than the pro. saves me a usb and an extra wire also. I have tested both and the hat is just as accurate if not even more accurate. I glued mine to an all black hat like yours and works like a charm. I can also jump out of my seat and not worry about a dang wire. the trackir5 is the best for this game and trucking games where you have to look left and right before turning and check rear view mirrors often

you can just cut the cord and add a small battery carrier box to it, then velcro it to the headband of your headset. OR cut cord of Traclip pro and wire on a usb C or Mini USB onto the end of it then add a small phone emergency recharge battery pack ( really cheap atm) both options work a charm, I prefer the recharge pack as you can get very small ones and its easy to buy 2 and swap them out if one runs out of charge.

I've been using TrackIR 5 since its release. In flight FSX and MSFS 2020 I find that I can see further down in the cockpit if I look upward just a little then push the F12 key, it allows better low look views. And I use a ball cap with TrackIR 5. I flew the Cessna 152 in real life for flight training, the main problem with it is it was very loud engine noise in the cockpit. I liked the Piper Warrior much better and low wing aircraft allowed me to see over the wings on base turns when doing pattern work. Also, at some point in training or after PPL, after setting the DG with the compass I began using the 90 degree hash marks on the directional gyro to know when to come out of turns except final approach which was the runway itself [again pattern work].

@@AusFlightSimmer You'll probably get sick of me saying it... ...but: Force feedback makes trimming relatively easy and painless. In older sims, without FF, I always found the procedure to be difficult and mechanical. Also, I noticed you thought you needed to trim a lot more than probably the real aircraft should. I haven't flown FS2020 yet, but if you're used to more modern trainers, I can see why you might come away with that impression. I think if you were to compare the C-152 (well, most if not all of the classic Cessna GA single engine models) to more modern designs, you'd also find that they require a bit more rudder input to counteract inverse yaw in turns.

I had head tracking in FSX but found it tended to make landings less accurate due to my stupid head position,(Didn't know my head is not straight until I tried it).I finally got MSFS re-installed but still had problems with under powered aircraft,the solution was to switch flight mode from legacy to modern and now most aircraft are pussycats (when I remember to check that my gear is actually down..........................)

Great video 😀👍 Very relaxed commentary ..nice thanks , would like to see more like it. Im a complete noob in regards flight simming but i think MSFS 2020 is awesome ..barring the usual bugs of course, ( i believe most other flight sims have taken years to get to the stable builds they are now which includes all the addons to enhance the experience). I've been using trackir5 pro for a long time now and find it fantastic for a multitude of games.. but for flight sims its absolutely indispensable for that added extra " immersion ". In saying that ..it did take me a while to set the " perfect" profile for me ( Everyone is different and will have different requirements so therefore different settings of course), i use it in conjunction with a joystick hatstick for full "all round" views on one monitor but it does work with 2 screens too. I would like to ask... Do you think VR would be worth a consideration? ...most Utube video's ive watched say once youve tried it you wouldn't go back lol. Thanks for the video.

The one reason I am wary of going into VR is I can’t see my buttons, switches, mouse etc. other than that I believe the immersion would be worth it.

Can you use head tracking with a single monitor or do you need multiple? I assume it would be hard with a single monitor because if u turn my head to release the parking break I would have to move my eyes while my head is pointed down. This is just what I assume I’ve never used head tracking so excuse me if I’m wrong.
@AusFlightSimmer
@AusFlightSimmer 3 жыл бұрын
Never tried it. I can't see why you couldnt use it with two.
@Oz_Gnarly_One
@Oz_Gnarly_One 3 жыл бұрын
The trick is you aren’t using it 1:1 scale. So a small movement of the head relates to a much higher movement in the sim. If you play back the video when he looks for the runway over his right shoulder, his actual head isn’t turned that far. It sounds more awkward than it actually is. I’ve only used face tracking but it’s the same process.
