This DLC actually makes me excited at the prospect of a developer going "hey, we can do that" or even Microsoft themselves, and creating a game around this. The look and feel of the helicopter is incredible, and having an open world game set on Dune, as a pilot of one of these would be spectacular.

You've raised an interesting point, the SDK capability for missions will be vastly improved for MSFS 2024, I do wonder what that means for 3rd party developers and if that will translate to some epic mission content being made available to the simulator!

"Gamefying" the experience by including careers for activities and such have no reason to take away from the simulation aspect of actually flying the plan, and stop you from doing what you are already doing. Simulators like this are expensive, if you don't try to broader the appeal to a large audience you either will have very expensive and in a lot of aspects broken/bugged experiences (because of a smaller teams of programmers with limited time to do bug fixes) like iRacing, rFactor2, etc in the racing sim. Or the game flops and the franchise goes dormant for a decade for 10 years or more like Flight Simulator did.

I've been a massive fan of the novels since I was real young, was very impressed by the new movie. I've been having a blast flying the ornithopter all over Earth. It's a perfect vehicle for exploring. Real shame there's no free roam mode for the Dune map.

Never played MSFS before, but this has me tempted to pick it up. The lack of sandworms is a real bummer, though. It just isn't Arrakis without them. What actually got me into flight simulators back in 1999 was a Star Wars fighter game, afterwards I bought almost every MS flight simulator. I'm sure this will bring in new sci-fi and Dune fans into the franchise

Blade Runner's Earth, definitely, especially considering they could laser scan the miniatures used for the film directly in. LA/ LV in the rain and smog, the massive trash wastelands; it seems perfect for a brand tie-in.

Thanks Obsidian, this looks great and it's wonderful Microsoft and Asobo are collaborating with these movie companies for these types of content. On the download front, it looks like Asobo have done some updates or at least instigated some fixes, because my downloads from the marketplace now are much better this year than before the holiday period with hardly any 2< Mbit download throttling.

Time to launch this while listening to the good old Amiga version of the 1992 Dune game soundtrack. Ecolove, Wormsign, Fremens. I wish this dlc had all the major settlements, palaces, and such, but I'm beyond happy to enjoy it for what it is right now.

I don't think the Ornithopter would work when you bank fully sideways and fly if you are looking to stay up in the air rather than swing sideways. Seems a bit funky physics wise.

I'm taking my ornithopter to the edge of Mt Fuji's caldera and turning it into a rocket sled down the snowy side. Meanwhile this opens up possibilities for an Airwolf that's more than just a skinned 222B I must say, I wasn't expecting to need to add pedal on this when I added collective...

The worm will have to turn up at random times or its not really arakkis it'd be nice to see some spice on the wind at dusk to and maybe some missions that trigger the worm like a rescue from a spice harvester that has wondered into its territory and made to much noise or i dont know if you could class it as flight but maybe landing calling the worm and riding it

Ornithopters are quite real, and man-carrying examples have been flying since the forties. They are, however, very rare. The material science to build something that flaps at extremely high frequencies isn't really there, though, so no man-carrying VTOL examples exist. Without that, the benefits over conventional aircraft designs are fairly marginal, with perhaps the biggest feature being a reduction in overall parasitic drag by eliminating propellers, fans, or and engine nacelles.

I have a problem when I activate the boost I do not see the flame coming out and I also do not see the effects on the ground during takeoff/landing or at ground level (dust and drag), where this could come from the bug ? Yeah I just wish they would've put that time and effort in to something realistic. I feel like they could've made a new study-level aircraft for the amount of effort they expended with all the maps and the aircraft for this "Dune" crap. I know why they didn't, but I wish they would have included free-flight in the Arrakis level ;) I really don't like their mission design ( super binary and focused on hitting numbers instead of actually flying well ) and just want to fly around the environment for fun... Also, the UI is still messed up in VR so you can't read gauges, which means you can't follow objectives, like maintain 1300 ft... but still cool to play around with for a bit... now back to flying Learjets into Aspen!
