Great, I'm glad I found this. MSFS had mysteriously uninstalled. Just one improvement to these instructions, you do not need to copy the OneStore folder... it takes ages. Just rename it. Rename it back and you're good.

I had a problem where my sim would just be stuck on syncing data. I tried all kinds of things to sort it but nothing worked. I came to the conclusion that i had to uninstall and delete my sim. This really seems to have solved my problem. All of a sudden, I kept getting 0x80000003 and I didn't have much of addons installed. The CTD would happen before the main menu, and after selecting someting in the main menu. No pattern was clear. I was using the PMDG 737-700 addon, and I was thinking this was the issue. MSFS v1.32.7. Followed the OP's instructions and it seems to have fixed whatever was wrong. So; Cudos! :)

Pants. The main common reason for wanting to uninstall and reinstall is because some files have become corrupted. Guess what folder those corrupted files are most likely to be in? Yep.

Thanks a bunch. After having to reset my Xbox it caused an error at start up that kept sending me to the game services app in the MS Store. I tried Powershell commands, reset and repair of apps and I was about to do a complete reinstall when I stumble upon your video. In addition, to moving the data the official folder I also cut and pasted my community folder and voila I was back in business. Again thank you for saving me hours of time.

So, I think you need to be careful with how you label this. I think calling it a reinstall is getting close to that line of not being the most truthful. I wouldn't call this a reinstall if im honest. This is a trick that could maybe be used to efficiently get the sim back up and running if you need to reinstall windows, format your sim drive, moving to a new computer, etc. I would still be skeptical of that because some files could get corrupted in the process or somethings may be dependent on being assigned to that specific location, computer, etc. I don't know if that matters for this sim in particular. But also a lot of times reinstalls are done as a troubleshooting method. Reinstalling for troubleshooting needs new files, copying and pasting the original files will not do any good for troubleshooting and will probably just wonder why it didn't solve their problem. Not trying to say its bad, cool trick, but just be careful I technically wouldn't call this a reinstall.

You do have a valid point to be fair. However, it also depends on when you created the backup. If you have a backup pre msfs mess up then it should still work. If you backed up an already messed up sim. Then yes you are correct a full install would be the best bet.

It helped me. Played MSFS today, shut down the PC, went to grab lunch and when I turned it back on MSFS was claiming there was a mandatory update with the exact size as the original install (95GB). I searched for hours how to tell MSFS that it in fact did not need to reinstall itself but nothing worked. With this video I successfully tricked it into thinking I was downloading everything again (which would take 12+ hours with my internet).

I have attempted this. After pausing the install and exiting MSFS, I copied the directory back. I got a message that the file/path name was too long. That has resulted in some files not to be copied back, resulting in an incomplete installation. I started MSFS afterwards and it did not continue the install. I am on update 10, release sept 2022. To be sure, I re-installed MSFS from scratch. Despite that, it's worth a try.

I had to reinstall Windows 10 due to a major crash, I chose the option to keep my personal files. I did lose many programs as you do. MSFS appears to be gone completely from all the searching I've done. I had a copy of the Onestore folder copied to a separate drive. Mine is around 280Gb in size. I used my xbox gaming account to associate the game to on the first install as we do. My MS Store doesn't recognise me any more and I forgot that login info on reinstall so had to create a NEW xbox gaming profile along with a fresh MS Account... I built a new pc a couple of years ago and chose a case that had no DVD drive. I thought everything could be achieved these days via USB...that assumption is of course wrong. I then bought a usb driven dvd drive ready for the first install... I tried to reinstall using the dvds (yes I bought the actual disc version) but the cheap crappy dvd player I bought died on me halfway through, (it worked during the first install ok) 5 hrs or so in it seemed to me - I then found your video and of course I will try this method soon. Just need to buy another DVD drive. Fingers crossed I can get back up and running. Your video is great and certainly deserves a sub from me. Cheers from down under New Zealand. 👍

As it turned out … It did not. Not this time anyway. As soon as I added the packages to the new installation. It crashed. Which is what happened before the reinstall as well. Probably corrupted files due to my unstable system. I took about 4hrs of my sleep last night to replace my 850W PSU with a 1000W version that for example also facilitates the 2nd CPU power plug. I’ve been having a lot of system restarts and MSFS CTD’s. I have an RX 6900 XT with a Ryzen 9.

Yes, it’s an overlooked issue. I told the store where I bought the system, that ASUS stated that this graphics card and cpu needed a 1000W. They said it wasn’t necessary. Well … it is! Even the system start is smoother. I am downloading the packages now. We’ll have a look see 👍🏻

Thanks for this video how-to. I had not used my MSFS app since July 2021 or so. Like many others, I ran into a bug with the MS Store, whereby the app redirected to the MS Store for an update, and there was no means to perform an update. That said, I am following the directions your provided in this video, with hopes that I will not have to re-install MSFS with the v5 mandatory update, from scratch. One change that I made to your process, is that I renamed the 'Official' folder to 'bak_Official', which saves the time in copying the files to another location. The MSFS installer did not have an issue with that approach, so now I am waiting for the 49GB update to complete installing. I'll provide an update once the update complete and I test MSFS app to see if there are any issues.

Very interesting and tempting? But why would we want to delete the SIM then copy back the main folder structure ? Wouldn't we simply end up with the same SIM as before? I ask because my SIM is corrupted? ALL my prop planes have a bug? Even though my controls are mapped and working, the engines will NOT rev up? You need to create regular backups. If its corrupt now it's most likely too late. After each update I create a backup they I can use moving forward if needed.

Can anyone help me get MSFS2020 installed into multiple accounts on the same computer? I've got the Microsoft store figured out so that it shows it's on my kids accounts. The problem is that I then have to download the 200GB download THREE times. Once for each of our accounts. Why is it when I try to install MSFS Standard DVD on my desktop it would always open Microsoft Store, but my activation code stated that I need to install Microsoft Simulator first then redeem my code? Should I just click on "Redeem Code" at the MS Store even if I haven't installed the DVD yet into my desktop? The best thing to do first is remove all mods and add them in one by one. Also make sure they are all updated first.

No you don't have to erase the folder. As for the other parts I think you will have to input your settings etc again

It will depend on your pc speed on how quick that moves over. Plus it's the re-install that takes seconds not the backup. I back mine up after every new update

@@flightsimtoday Anything is allowed of course it's just that they don't advise it due to problems later trying to access files. The initial small download of roughly 1gb will go the C drive but it is best put the main download for the game to a separate drive preferably on it's own and an ssd .

Only problem is the planes will not get updated to fix problems.

That is why each new update you create a new backup. Plus the updates are needed 100GB. If you forget to create a new backup at least its still a quicker install.

To save people hours of searching, if you have anything other than the Microsoft Store version then you will not have thos folder, it's a bit misleading

Well that didn't work. You didn't mention whether we need to uninstall the app in Wins first. You didn't mention whether we should delete the original OneStore folder, or just its contents, My reinstalled started from the store so I never saw that message to pause it and get out the sim, And you never mentioned how to go about reinstalling. You do know the MS Store the worse piece of software I've ever seen. . There's nothing remotely intuitive about it. What cluster F@#$. And finally, what the purpose of copying all the old content in the OneStore folder? Shouldn't there be new and/or updated files replaced during a new install?

Yeah, I watched your video at least three times and did everything exactly the way you described. Every time I tried your method, the installer just wanted to start over and overwrite all the data I copied into the OneStore folder. Looks like I’m just gonna have to let it re download the entire program all over again. Thanks for the 2 minute pitch followed by a bunch of useless content.
