Reason being i’d like to go back and playthrough the XBOX 360 library as well as exclusives i’ve missed: Gears, Halo, Sunset Overdrive, Forza (that’s pretty much it i think?). I’m leaning towards the SERIES X mainly for improved frame rates on older titles. The general improvements in all games is nice too though. With this strategy, Xbox consoles and by extension the brand, which people associate with it, have no future IMO. But that's not the main issue I have with MS' current marketing message. Outside of the PC, all those other devices rely on streaming the games. So everything is in their control and it's something I can't accept if that's their future vision. It has to remain optional.

I play mainly on pc and for them letting me play my pc copy/game pass on Xbox consoles for free and with cloud save I bought a Series S and for me is the best option.And I bought a steam deck recently and I play everything cross saved between all this devices.For me this it's huge and good for me I don't see anyone affected by this only fanboys of each console,idc if they release halo on playstation better yet It would be great I can play with more friends and people.But Microsoft it's the only one that can do this move because they have a ton of money.If playstation/nintendo (specially them) would go broke so fast. RIP Xbox. Xbox 360 will go down in history as the bit for bit greatest Xbox console of all time. Its a shame theyve relegated a once beloved platform into a mere APP. And deep down their excuse for this is that they cant sell enough consoles, its a poor excuse to cover up the fact that they cant win a console generation (Phil once said he was in it to win it), even after buying up some of the worlds greatest game developers. Why even work on a handheld?... It'll never sell as well as Nintendo switch and the hardware inside of that device is barely more powerful than the Xbox 360 from 2005 and its still selling well, so well a Switch 2 isnt even necessary.

Microsoft focusing on a handheld is interesting to me as a Playstation/PC gamer. Nintendo Switch is the mobile gaming of consoles, it's always going to do well because the majority of gamers are casual and mobile gaming is highly popular, it offers that demographic an entry point into the home console experience and is more of a family friendly platform. The Xbox handheld is more of a gamer oriented handheld, than a casual player one. It's not trying to be a hybrid home console for mobile/casual audience, it's a portable Xbox for console gamers, probably with the appeal that you can use cross save, and access your whole Xbox library. It's more of a Steam Deck and ROG Ally competitor by the sounds of it. There's nothing stopping Microsoft from releasing a windows based handheld, that's a portable PC without the faff of Linux. That would easily sell like hotcakes.

One of the enormous obstacles I see as an IT sysadmin who works with Windows every day, is the challenge of creating a steam os-like interface for Windows because of the double-edged sword that is its focus on legacy software support. For corporate use, this can be wonderful because compatibility tends to be good for the old banking applications and other similar hard-to-replace industry specific software, but it makes streamlining the OS difficult compared to what's been possible for Valve with its Linux-based Steam OS. There is a bit of hope: there is currently an option for a desktop-less (aka headless) Windows Server install, so perhaps enough stripping down could be possible. This is all very exciting to follow. I run a desktop PC with an AMD GPU and Bazzite, and aside from some quirks with sound crackling a bit when I'm in the menus for a few seconds on boot, it's worked just as well as my Steam Deck. I love the experience. It's the console experience I've envied console players for as a primarily PC gamer. I feel I have the best of both worlds now. I hope Microsoft can make some headway in this market.

The problem with cloud streaming especially with Xbox being known as the FPS people (More so now with COD) is there will always be lag. It doesn't have anything to do with internet infrastructure and everything to do with physics. Electrons move pretty fast but not infinitely so.

Consoles is where the money is, they get 30% of every digital game, 30% of every DLC/MTX, they force you to get their on-line subscription, they force you to get their licensed accessories and they can push way harder for you to get their first-party accessories. For example a Sports gamer when choosing a PS5, will buy 7 games at $70 which Sony gets 20$, will get PS+ for 7 years at $80 and another controller for over $60. That's over $700 of profit for literally nothing.

I'm calling it now: Indiana Jones is going to launch in a very messy state, with all kinds of problems. In 6 months, most of the issues will be resolved, or at least mitigated, just in time for the ps5 release, with a ps5 enhanced edition ready to go as well. I normally have absolute trust in Machine Games to release a polished masterpiece, but I firmly believe the Xbox corporate team demanded the release date, no option. It is basically the closest date they can get to Christmas and still hope to sell lots of consoles. Plus it gives the devs a week or so to handle as much of the issues as they can before leaving for holidays. Exclusives this, multiplatform that... It'd be good if they released any games at all that'd be worth playing. I own an Xbox and I hope Gears E-Day comes out and is great. If it ends up on PS5 half a year later so be it. The problem is Microsoft shipping a good game.

There is a very clear misconception about Xbox "dying" Put yourself in Microsoft's shoes, people who don't own consoles, who were previously an untpped market, are now signing up for subscription services and making digital purchases. People who own competitive consoles, that maybe would buy an Xbox exclusive game, but wouldn't buy a console to do so, are now buying the game. Best of all, they no longer have to sell hardware at a loss to introduce people into their ecosystem. This is not as ridiculous as people are making it out to be, Microsoft is getting into a super-profitable, all SaaS business model before Nintendo and Sony get a chance to.

You are forgetting that what makes consoles a ton of money is that they get 30% of every 3rd party game sold there, the licensing for accessories and the pay to play on-line subscription. Without a console they can't get that and just become another third party publisher. The PC market is locked to Steam and the Cloud and AAA mobile market is miniscule as seen by the abysmal sales of AAA game sales on iPhones.

If you're the owner of the studios, for example look at CoD alone, you don't really need to look that much to 3rd party sales. The only fact that they're distributing on many more platforms should partially (if not totally) solve the issue. I recently looked at their FY Q1 2025 document and they seem to be in growth on gaming and services (especially gaming).

That may be so. But the cost of development of games on mobile is miniscule compared profit. Look at what a game like Candy crush makes. Microsoft know what it's doing know matter how we armchair quarterback it. Theyre playing the long game. Also nobody is selling consoles like the early 2000s. Not even PlayStation will get close this gen to the PS2. It's a whole different ball game.

I literally bought a ps5 for exclusives last year and the only good game i played and beat 100% was silent hill 2 remake. sold it yesterday.. i honestly dont see what is the point of sonys exclusives when most of the games they make are mediocre at best.. xbox truly is trying to end the exclusivity era, and im all for it. Sony needs to do the same. Their fanbase ask for a remake of a game that hasnt come out since ps3 (sly cooper) or they ask for a days gone 2. hell even the remasters of GoW 1-3 and the psp games that you have to pay for a sucky streaming service just to play them ps2 games .. and what do they get? Remakes of all ps4 games...... I was a Sony fanboy since ps1 all the way to the ps4 until I got my hands on the xbox One and never regretted my decision!

They should make the next Xbox an upgradable console where you can upgrade CPU, GPU, RAM and HD in a sliding out easy form factor way that anyone can do and have it open to ask 3rd parties to make these proprietary sliding upgrades. That way hardware is it if the way and it can really replace the PC. And since it's Windows make it easy to port over any PC have on day 1 but with a console interact easy upgrading and lighter OS.

MS shot themselves in the foot with insisting on several platforms of technical capability. There was no need to insist developers make their games playable on everything from XbONE up to Series X. It enforced a handicap on developers trying to push graphical and gameplay limitations. Why would an XbONE owner upgrade to Series X if is coming to them on a system from 2013? You've instantly lost $500/head right there.

Rich nailed it and I think MS realizes there is dwindling interest in consoles. My Niece and Nephew's last console was PS4. My last console was PS4 Pro and One X. None of us have any interest in the new consoles. Their friends are all PC / Mobile as well. So outside of the Switch that's 4 less consoles this generation in my family alone.

Gaming has actually gotten cheaper. If you adjust for inflation, you'll see that. I mean, it's easy, now, to look at the $599 PS3 price and think it's pretty much what we have now, but back in 2006, that $599 was equivalent to $939, which is why everyone freaked out back in 2006. And that $399 Xbox 360 would be $646 today. So, that $499 PS5 is less than an Xbox 360 at launch. And games are less expensive as well. Back in 1995, those $50 PS1 games would now be $100, and today, we're only paying $70 for a new game.

Xbox died for me the day they launched the Xbox One. Doesn’t matter that they walked back forced Kinect integration and that absolutely HORRIBLE used game policy. The damage was done! I IMMEDIATELY traded in my 360 and games and abandoned my Xbox digital library and went to PlayStation. Nothing since has shown me that this was a bad move! Bye Xbox! It was losing the XBOX One era that gimped Microsoft. I don’t care how many exclusives you have, the general populace is going to stick where the library is. Microsoft had the foresight to realize that digital libraries were the future, but fumbled out of the gate and lost the generation. iMessage and FaceTime is locked to iOS. Google makes Google Maps, Drive, Keep, Photos, Contacts, etc available pretty much everywhere. I use a Google Pixel but iPhone users being able to use Google Maps doesn't really impact my experience. I think it's pretty clear that Xbox is going to become something akin to how Google manages Android. Xbox will be a *massive* publisher while still making Xbox consoles that serve as reference devices and a place to access digital libraries, while PlayStation pulls an Apple and keeps tending to its walled garden.

These KZbinrs who get handed game after game, who get to write off purchase after purchase, who get free hardware have no idea what it's like to have to work for your $500 machine. The idea of the Xbox consoles shuttering because "no big deal guys" is awful. We've invested thousands of dollars into this ecosystem and their are loads of games that will not simply transfer to a PC (Lost Odyssey, Brute Force, Splosion Man, Too Human, etc). Having this ecosystem shutter and leave Sony the defacto champion of the living room is frightening. These clowns don't see a problem with that because they all have 4090s and PS5 Pros. They'll get 5090s and PS6 pros for free while we're left to pay $700 for a launch PS6 in 4 years.

Buy Steam Deck instead or if there as followup to Steam machines. You can play your Steam or GoG catalogue. Going from PC into PS5 or XBox makes no sense until they start supporting Steam, GoG etc. Unless you feel like spending money pointlessly for games you already own just to play them on the couch on different platform.

Problem with Xbox on PC is that the Xbox app is complete and utter garbage that has bugs and issues that have been there since they brought the app out and have never been patched. A large percentage of the time if I use gamepass on PC most of the games won’t launch because of the old “missing licence” issue.

I've no idea why they would continue to produce more hardware when the series consoles are on course to sell less than the Xbox one. Any future hardware is going to sell even less as there is no reason to buy their dedicated hardware anymore. Their marketing and strategy seems all over the place. My only question? If everything is an Xbox, and many of those devices can do more than an Xbox, as in, they have multifunctional roles, then what becomes of an actual Xbox? Could we then open it up into being a budget PC? Complete with mouse and keyboard gaming? And installing actual applications? Such as full versions of VLC, Office etc.? Or does an Xbox pretty much have no point? Other than streaming and playing games? I mean, if the things that I am able to stream my games on are also capable of making calls, checking on my pet, security cam, processing spreadsheets, or watch TV? Then it would seem that they would need to provide other functions to future Xbox consoles. They need to just start making them PCs, in otherwords. PCs that I can use to run Star Citizen, or PCs that can do something other than Xbox things, in order to give them some other function. ...Or can it be some sort of Alexa type deal? Can Cortana do that? Turn the lights on in my house etc? I guess, the only reason why I'm asking? Is because Phil Spencer recently stated that They plan to continue making Xbox consoles. What is the incentive in buying one of those?

$599 Xbox that has full steam support and is basically a PC in some sort of really cut down Windows 12 mode. Then they'll do a $499 handheld in late 2027 a year later. That's basically what I think is the most logical step
