I've been studying for the MCSA Windows Server 2016 since December, with the eventual hope of getting the MCSE Core Infrastructure. Now I've abandoned the whole project and I'm pretty sure I'll never bother studying for a Microsoft cert again. At least Cisco gave people adequate time to prepare for their 'certpocalypse'; four months basically leaves no room for error in the three MCSA tests, and gives no hope at all for the MCSE.

Yes, but its a very basic security fundamental, nothing like; SSCP or Security+. I have the Microsoft Cybersecurity exam which is actually called; Security Fundamentals and it is Exam 98-367. This particular exam is still available. I also have the SSCP certification and realistically, the SSCP goes far more into information security knowledge then the Microsoft exam. On my resume, the Microsoft exam did absolutely nothing for me, although when I achieved the SSCP from (ISC)2, then I started getting a lot of phone calls, emails and attention from recruiters and large companies.

Studying AWS RIGHT NOW, since Amazon has approximately 70% marketshare. Azure is on the horizon as well as Google Cloud for my personal study. Think about it, you guys know how the argument for cloud computing goes- if you can forego infrastructure, backup, latency and the ability to have resources scale horizontally and vertically - and do so economically...wouldn’t you? Learn this stuff. Get some Linux under your belts too. Servers used by AWS run mostly on it.

Of course they are unless its on Microsoft put the MTA's on the retirement list which I have not seen as of yet. The good thing about the 98-349 exam is once you achieve that status, the 98-349 does not expire. There other exams from Microsoft, if you achieve that particular exam prior to its retirement date, then that will be a lifetime certification for you.

There's a lot of people online are mad at Microsoft in regards to the MCSA,MCSE etc Certification deadline which should be pushed to Dec 2020 instead, there's no way to pass 3 or 4 Microsoft exam during that time period, I think they are doing the same as to what Cisco done and hoping a rush of people getting these certs and the amount of money flowing in? I don't think you can push companies into the cloud, unless companies have figured out use other vendors for their server services?

Other thing is that if you do earn your MCSA in Server 2016 before the January 2021 deadline you can at least say you are MCSA certified for life. What good is that? when many IT departments are still using hardware especially mine is moving to win server 2019. Latest news is some companies going back to internal IT departments because of security concerns about the cloud. I think personally the rush to the cloud was over done. Also MS should have done the way Cisco did with its CCNA exam. Revamp it yes to keep up to date but still incorporate more cloud into MCSA/MCSE instead of removing those titles out right! do you agree?

But then they brought their old certification branding back (albeit different acronyms)... Let's start a petition to have them bring back the MCSA for the successor to Server 2019. Its awful. I have invested my time, money, and career in focusing on the Microsoft stack because of their respected certification programs. I don't think it a wise idea to now force to learn Azure to get a server job: otherwise 1) even if everyone move to the cloud. You still need techs to configure the server OS themselves on them 2) not everyone want azure. what going to happen is people will go for other certs and since server admin is now lock behind Azure And because any real alternative to Microsoft is red hat. We are going to see linux take a even bigger part in replacing window. not just as the cloud host but as the guess Oses too.

After having been in the industry for more than two decades, I can tell you that role based certs are most definitely NOT the far superior approach. You still need to know how the tech/products work regardless of where and how. Plus, tech is circular and much of the workload will be brought back on-prem, albeit most likely In a different manner. Most likely hybrid cloud of some sort will win out. Open Stack and Open Shift like projects with a blurring of lines between VM container and app container most likely will be the future.
